I love Dame May Whitty's voice. I enjoy all her episodes of Suspense. I actually like this shorter radio version more than the movie, although the set was nice in the movie.

I don't get it

This is one of the first episodes in the "final period" of Suspense, when the show moved to New York and the brief period of guest stars that returned during the Robson era was over. The result is a mixed bag. I think the stories in some ways are better--the episodes don't seem as chopped to pieces by commercials, and there's some real "bread and butter" type episodes featuring murder plots, mysteries, dangerous dilemmas (as opposed to some of the final Robson episodes that frankly were like "Here's a disturbed person acting strange for 15 minutes"). However, the production values feel like they're getting shot to pieces. The music, already declining in the 1950s, is pretty bad. The main players are competent, but you do feel a blow in the loss of veteran radio players (this episode has a good cast, but I have encountered some truly bad performers). On the plus side, the Hollywood era of Suspense DID use some actors way too many times--there are stretches of the show where basically every prominent female role is Cathy Lewis.

When he and his wife Jessica Tandy were interviewed together he'd hog the interview and do nearly all the talking. That makes him perfect for this role as a pompous ham actor.

Heyho Charlie. I have given up on the emails...it could be that my lap top is on it's way out hence you not receiving them, although local emails are being received? How are things for you, has that BP gotten any better? I turned 60 on 18th, I received numerous junk mail offering me discounts on various aids to support my walking, sitting, standing and bathing😂 I also got an invite for a health check at GP surgery, any other time you can't get an appointment for anything.😂 I am now entitled to free prescriptions but not a bus pass, they put that age up to 67 like the retirement age. If I was still living in Wales I would get a bus pass at 60 and the prescriptions have been free for 20years. I'm not sure if I am now a pensioner or can only claim that title at 67. 🤣 Anyway Charlie, keeping you and Theresa in my prayers. Give the kids a cuddle from me. My two are doing well. Betty Davis has a new name...Betty 5 bells Davis, due to how many she has on her collar. Unfortunately it has not stopped her catching birds, Teddy likes the moths. So what happened with the couple? Why was he out? A very unsatisfactory ending to me.

Really strange. Claude Rains is one of the best, yet his reading seems stilted, with pauses in odd places, and the accent he's putting on for part of the London sergeant comes and goes. Also, it can take a long time for a person to die by strangling, well over a minute--what was the wife doing all that time while her husband was being throttled? Surely giving a witness all that time to scream and potentially come at you with a frying pan is not sound planning.

I used to listen to this with my grandfather over and over as a kid. "My portrait, in rats!!" is burnt into my memory, and likely the early impetus for my love of horror.

My grandfather had a vinyl record with this and other stories, we used to listen to regularly when I was a kid. This one and "Three Skeleton Key" are the ones that stick in my memory.

Hi charlie...you still not getting any of my emails..I have no idea why? All is good on this side of the pond, except the weather, it has been awful. Very cold, extremely wet and on Saturday we had heavy hailstones, it feels like a later September early October not summer. Fortunately I like the rain so I don't feel hard done to. My new job is going wel,Iam enjoying being asleep at night and awake during the day and eating at the corret time. Working nights was ok for a time but definitely not always. Teddy bear and Betty Davis ( Betty 5 bells as thats how many she has on her callar )are keeping me active as they like their playtime in the garden. I saw this movie on TCM years and years ago I just remembered, this is the exact audio. I remembered the part where they were on the phone and wished his ex wife would die and his girlfriend called him back after she died.

Wow, what was the point of that story? I mean, I love Agnes Moorhead and Suspense, but that sucked. Dont waste your time with this one, folks.
