Hello Michelle Oh boy I am so envious and so sad that I don't have anything like this expo close to me in Northern Saskatchewan Canada and if we do have a sewing show it would likely be in a large city like Toronto Ontario or Vancouver BC It would be just way too expensive for me to get to a event like that So I have watched Jen already and wow you guys are very lucky to have access to the classes and the products Alot of the UK sewing videos that I follow they've been to the London stitch and knitting show now all you girls even stephanie from California is going to a weekend show 🙈 I am in my sewing room my happy place watching everyone Dreaming about a sewing expo Looking forward to seeing more about all that you have learned from classes Happy for you all and can't wait to see more Take care and happy sewing 🧵 🪡

Hi Joanne! Yes, I've been watching the lovely UK ladies talk about the Stitching Show as well - I love watching those videos. I saw that Stephanie will be going to an expo this next weekend - I can't wait to hear all about her experience! Since you can't get to an expo, you might want to consider taking some online classes! Other than catching up with the sewing friends, the classes were the best part of the trip!

Hi Michelle! It was so nice to meet up with you at the show!! And thank you for the shout-out! I've been quilting for several years and enjoy these shows so much. The classes are really good but this year, I just went to shop! Now, after hearing what you said about that "It Seams To Fit" class, I wish I would've taken that class. I want to sew more clothing but have to alter the patterns so much! I'll be watching to see what you do with those patterns you got from your friend. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun at the show and learning a lot, too! Have a great week-end!!

I can’t wait to see your serger. Love hearing about the expo. I follow the Nancy Zieman pattern fitting with confidence. So, basically you get a pattern that fits your high bust… basically your neck and armholes…. Then use her pivot and slide techniques to alter the bust, waist and hips. It makes “close to fitting patterns” work for our body. I always enjoy your videos.

Hi there! I did a quick unboxing of the new serger a couple of weeks ago if you're interested - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYuTi2Nvf7t4eLs. if you have any additional questions let me know in the comments and I can do another video 😊. I've heard of the pivot and slide method - I think the seam allowance method is kind of similar but you do all the adjustments from the seam allowance. I'll be sure to share the first time I make an attempt 😊

Oh, I tried the foil method for measuring my crotch - I found it hard so like the look of the tool. My bernina overlocker was a game changer for knits - I had a half day course thrown in when I bought it at Bernina in London - honestly invaluable hands on lessons.
@MichelleSewsAgain2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah! The key to keeping the shape of both the foil and the tool is to push it to the side before stepping out of it. If you push it straight down you are going to stretch back out the shape that you just spent time creating. Hopefully that's a helpful tip? I found a KZbin channel that did videos on EVERY PAGE of the manual that comes with my serger! I'll be binge watching those for sure!!! Thanks so much for watching 😊

How much fun! I made a finger pin cushion eons ago and use it all the time…at my cutting table I pin baste the first pieces to sew together no having the pins right where I need them is so convenient- moving my pin dish around doesn’t seem like it should matter but it does. Your new seam ripper is so YOU- just an exuberant burst of color and energy…a true pice of art (you and the tool). I think you allow yourself to make small changes to big four patterns you will be able to customize so many more things… and glad you referenced the finished garment measurements because the sizing info is umm, well, interesting…like a foreign language that doesn’t reflect what people actually speak. Anywhere. I will be looking forward to how you put your new knowledge to work in your work.
@MichelleSewsAgain2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know how you use your finger pin cushion! I'll be giving it a try tomorrow!! Thank you for your sweet comments about the seam ripper (and me 💕). It's very possible that I would purchase more of the Big 4 patterns IF they put the finished measurements on the outside of the package instead of on the pattern pieces! Such a lost opportunity on their part. These patterns were free so no loss if I can't make them fit. But I'm not PAYING for patterns that are too far away from my body measurements to alter and I won't know that unless I know the finished garment measurements. So frustrating! Oh well - we'll see how these patterns go then I'll go from there 😊. Thanks so much for stopping by!!

@Kera.S.2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like such fun! I'm sure you are learning this, but the big 4 patterns have ease built into them so check that too. I don't like them either and sometimes just measure the pattern pieces themselves to figure out what the final measurements will be to decide if it will fit me. Also, the pattern pieces themselves have way more detailed & correct information than the envelope! I start there. Which is why I do not like sewing with those companies patterns either. It's like they try to make it more difficult! Ugh!.... Glad you are having fun! I'm wanting a serger of any kind, so jelly, can't wait to see which one you get! 💙
@MichelleSewsAgain2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kera! Since the Big 4 don't put the finished measurements on the outside of their packages, I've never known how much ease was in a pattern (at least, they rarely do). But now that I have a few, I will be measuring the pattern pieces like you suggested. It's one of the steps in the alterations class that I took! I'll be doing an unboxing of my new serger very soon - I'll be playing with it tomorrow! I'm too wiped out tonight 🤣. Thanks so much for watching!!

I've got that Simplicity trenchcoat pattern, too - I've got the version with the rack number (D0899) on the envelope. I get it out every once in a while to dream about it. Copyright on the flap is 2018. I think I'm waiting until just the right fabric jumps up in front of me. 😉 At some point, I realized that I was constantly carrying my pins back and forth between the ironing board (where I do most of the pinning) and the machine. (Light bulb!) My mother always used one, but I had to figure out for myself how it's useful. Wonderful video!

can't tell on that 80s pattern BUT because it lookds like a saddle shouler, it looks like you could just eliminate the shoulder pad on the top and bring up the bottom of the armscye to compensate for the loss of "loft" (with a true set in, you change the top of the armscye) If just removing doesn't work, you could pinch in the excess at either side of the cap (love the look of the back of the shirt...maybe colorblock?)

I have been to many many expos and have taken lots of classes. Always sew much fun. I was shocked to learn that the teachers are NOT paid for the lecture classes they teach and must supply all of the handouts or any supplies out of their pocket as well as pay a huge fee for the booths. After I learned that I was a little more willing to pay a higher price for a notion from them.

Hi Michele - thank you for that info about the teachers! That is helpful. I don't feel as bad about being overcharged for the flexi curve. However, one of my friends had a class where the teacher was charging $114 for a book that could be found on Amazon for $28. That's a bit extreme in my opinion.
