Margaret I will be 76 on Christmas Eve and I’m dreading it, another year older with more years behind me than ahead of me. I get scared and anxious. I’ve always been fit and strong but now find I can’t do what I did when I was 70. I’m very lucky I have a husband who is 72, he’s still fit. Make the most of your early 70’s because things change. I still drive the car but it terrifies me so I avoid it as much as possible. I have two young dogs and they keep me reasonably fit. I live in Cornwall, England and our King is also 76. The years have flown by since I reached 70. It’s lovely that you’ve got your kind sister Karen. My sister lives 200 miles away and I miss her. I love watching your videos, I lived in my son’s garage for 10 months when I was 53 and it was hard. I hope things will start moving again soon. Your patience is incredible x

I try to embrace my aging. How fortunate we are to be a part of each day we are here. I think of those who didn’t get the opportunity and it kicks my negative thoughts right out of my head. As for leaving a party, I’ve learned to be more in the background and cherish each hug goodbye. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

I’m almost 74…blessed to have my husband of 53 yrs here. We never know what is around the next turn. 70 was the big number but thankfully I changed my eating, dropped 35 lbs and feel like I’m 20 yrs younger. Family is everything to us. We never had kids but we have 6 kids in our family to love. Our blessings are so many. Love your channel. Fellow Massachusetts citizens here.❤️🇺🇸

LOL on the space heater discovery!! That so sounds like what I might have done! Maintaining our sense of humor is essential at any age and I do laugh at myself quite a bit! I really have always looked at my age as "just a number", but as it creeps up every year (which, by the way I'm happy about!), I do think more about my mortality and not being here for my family. I also take care of my 2 great-grandsons about 1-2 times weekly. I love the time I get to spend with them and they do keep me feeling young...especially lifting them and going up and down stairs, sitting on the floor, playing, etc., etc. The oldest will be 3 in March and the youngest will be 1 at the end of January, so I'm kept pretty busy. Am I tired at the end of the day? Absolutely, but it's a good tired and I keep getting more physically fit as the time has gone on. I, also, get a little anxious at gatherings if there are people there I haven't met yet, but I also say goodbye to those that I do know before leaving and...yes, it takes me another half hour to get out the door! Oh, well, that extra few minutes I consider well spent! Sorry for being so chatty...I haven't been able to tune in for a bit and I'm so glad to be here tonight cause I enjoy chatting with you!! Take care!

I can tell you are getting anxious for the house to get done, I don’t blame you for wanting to get settled. Congratulations on your new jean size! here in Margaret you seem like you would be a social butterfly! Enjoy your visit with your sisters. I sometimes just pop out and sometimes I tell all bye. I don’t really go to any social functions not that I have social anxiety, I’m just an introvert and people exhaust me, but usually I’ll just say a general goodbye waving to the room “bye guys I’m leaving” and that’s kind of it.

I tend to escape a function but I always thank the hosts before I do. I would never leave without thanking the person who invited me. My Mother would have had a conniption if I used the same sponge for floor and dishes. I noticed straight away that you had lost weight, well done. Love the slippers I use to knit them myself, they can be super slippery though on hardwood or vinyl floors.

Thank you for your post Margaret🥰 I enjoy my cuppa tea while you’re enjoying your cuppa tea, just like having a chat with a friend and neighbour, and it’s also interesting for me observing the traditions you have over Christmas, like making those calendars and knitting those slippers. Come February I’ll be 76, and though I’ve never looked my age, boy! since I turned 70 for some reason I have my moments😳 Here in Scotland our weather is only now turning cold and wintry, we’ve gotten used to having so much more rain all throughout the year than we ever had before. I have to hold back the urge to just run out! lol

Margaret, I loved the comments about saying goodbye! My late husband who was a jokester would always say when we were leaving family functions, ‘here goes the goodbye tour’ a quote from an episode on Everybody Loves Raymond’ 😂. He was absolutely right because we are huggers and kissers and a 10 minute goodbye would be an hour! I love your Christmas calendar idea. I would love to do that with my family but too late now…. So nice that you get to occasionally stay with your sister Karen and give Michael and family space! About getting old, I’m 81 and I have found out this year that I’m not as spry as I used to be but in my mind I’m 20 years younger!!! 😊

Wow! Margaret!! You went from a 16 to a 10! That is great and has to feel great! As far as leaving friends when a group is together goes, I always, and most of my friends do, say goodbye to each person. Most of us taught school together and we live in the south, so we say goodby and hug each other. You get really, really close as friends when you've taught elementary school together for years. We have all gone through the births of our children, sicknesses, loss of loved ones together and more of a family than just friends. Not to mention all we went through as a sisterhood of teachers. I am with you on missing Christmas decorating at my house. My second born child, a son, would have been 53 on November 12 but passed away last February. He and my daughter always came to my house for Thanksgiving and Christmas but, since he's gone, my daughter wants to have both holidays at her house. Oh, well time and tide wait for no man.😊

Hello, Margaret! My crisis age was 21. I was inconsolable. I was going to die of old age before nightfall. Age never bothered me after that day. I can't express enough my gratitude for not having to eat another family holiday dinner or sit at a table listening to my father talk endlessly about anything, while I looked across at my mother's frowning face. I could see the little, warped wheels turning in her head, cranking out as many lies as she could fit into any seconds she might find to get me alone to speak them and pretend they were true. After many years, I decided she was insane. They weren't the optimum pick for parents, but I feel it was pretty unfair to give me two bad ones. I have a cousin who once said, "I don't know what to say about your mother. There's just no excuse for her." That sums it up pretty well and verifies my feelings as being pretty disgusted by it all. Anyway, I'm pretty eager to avoid any social situations and will escape ASAP without speaking to anyone if possible. As an only child, I'm pretty happy now. I have finally gained my freedom and privacy. Margaret, I've decided to leave that abysmal conglomeration of negativity there to be read or skipped over if you wish. My life hasn't been good or bad or average. I went through a lot for 63 years to get where I am today, as I'm sure most of us have. I could fill a library with books about my 24-year marriage to a psychopath. All I can say is it wasn't boring and I'm fortunate to have survived it. Maybe. I think the majority of us were unhappy and traumatized. I also think people who say they loved their childhood have been visited by aliens who replaced their memories with fake ones. No offense to the "happy" people. I just love having these little chats, don't you? I feel as though we are completely alone and no one is listening, even if we are on a talk show. Kinda heart-to-heart girl talk! At least we've weathered the storms and are sailing calmer waters from now on. Now I know why you're looking so lovely. Nevermind the why or how. You're infatuated with your new life and your granddaughter. It's good things spilling into your life and you deserve each and every one. Thanks for listening. See you next time. Peace and happiness! 💕💕💕
@MargaretbeingMargaret25 күн бұрын
You have a gift for putting things into perspective. I also often look at people who wax poetic about their childhoods. What the heck? I like your explanation. Aliens makes the most sense! I can’t remember where you are from Nancy. Are you in the US?

Hello Margaret!! Lol on the dish sponge 🧽. Yes can use it on the floor but then replace the dish sponge with another. 😅Yes, I'm like that, always have been since went to nursing school in the 70s. Lol. Wear house slippers inside. With the c virus I now spray the bottom of my shoes with lysol when I come home...no I don't mask just aware of cooties on floors ( especially days I visit the nursing home). 😮 I love your sisters, so sisterly. My sisters both live far, Florida. Am going on 73 I feel 45 or 50 but my body has been dealing with disability for years but I manage & my mind still keeps me young internally. The # s aren't my focus just the abilities or lack of. Age is relative. When I was in my 20s -50 was very old to me. Ha! Good for you for getting out & about! You're blooming & Squish is rejuvenating. One of the people I visited in the nursing home celebrated his 100th bday in July called me a youngster. (He passed away Friday & I miss him. 😢) You've done a great job with your eating. It's inspiring so am working on cutting out carbs. Yes, I need to get a new relationship with food so I can stop eating for comfort when stressed. So proud of you! Woo-hoo size 10. No plans other than the usual. Your house will be done before you know it! Have a great week! 🤗💕

This helps me when I’m feeling snacky. My son told me to think about eating an apple and if I don’t want that then I’m not hungry and to get a piece of hard candy or eat the apple 😂
@MIMI-D26 күн бұрын
Cutting out Carbs completely is not sustainable and when you start back you will gain it back quicker than it took to lose it because you are basically like a piece of dry pasta. Try to eat carbs that don’t puff up when cooked like pasta. Potatoes cooked anyway boiled,baked,mashed or fried with just enough oil are good and a 1/2 cup of rice also oatmeal is fabulous for keeping blood sugar levels steady. Take it slow you know you better than anyone. You got this ❤
@dloveofgod826926 күн бұрын
@MIMI-D thank you for the advice. Not totally but I deal with pain & inflammation in my joints & carbs turn to sugar really irritating my condition. But I like rice which has over 30 carbs in just half cup. So being smart to eat more greens, veggies & protein. It's not just weight as I'm maintaining but 30 lb lighter would definitely improve my quality of life. So am adjusting. Thank you 💕

I’m an escaper…that’s if I go at all. I used to feel obliged and have always been a people pleaser but now I am into my 60s I try to convince myself that I will do what I want to…that only works some of the time…guilt is a terrible thing, self inflicted mind you. I have such trouble with my eating, a yo yo dieter all my life my weight has skyrocketed over the last few years. I am an emotional eater and the last two years have been stressful with bereavements and family illness and helping caring for loved one who are ill all excuses I know but I I have never been able to crack the cycle. I know it’s detrimental to my health and well-being but still the yo yo. Every day I wake up and say…ok today is a new day I’ll try my best. During lockdown I started running, well jogging and by the end of 9 weeks could run for about half hour without stopping then got a back injury which put a break on that. Grrrrrr. Anyway you have inspired me to try again to do something positive for myself. We are still going though the looking after a close relative after a major op and I am waiting on scans for a health issue, nothing major hopefully. But at some point something is going to have to click in the old brain. Thanks for the inspiration Margaret.😻🙏❤️

Boy, do I “get it”. This time I am NOT dieting. Made the decision to eat what works for me and then just stop. I know it is forever!

Congrats on the weight loss. That's fantastic! I started a health journey a month ago and I'm down 12 lbs so far with many more to go, but at least I've started. As for saying goodbye, I always make sure to say adieu to at least the hosts. Sometimes I stand at the door and say goodbye out loud, and whoever hears me it's all good. PS - I also have social anxiety. I find that a lot of people do not understand social anxiety and keep trying to pull me into situations that make me uncomfortable. Grrr!

I understand. I had to have many serious conversations with my sisters, but once they finally heard me they have been very supportive.

I have a tendency to escape most of the time. I usually say “I’m leaving now” to a couple of people but never everybody there if there’s more than six people there especially if I don’t say much to them during the event that brought us to the same place such as family gatherings which usually includes my niece’s in-laws. I feel rather awkward around people I don’t know well. Have a great week ahead, Margaret!🥰

I have to say.......I'm a professional escapee ! I hate hoopla and would just rather disappear into the night. I'm turning 70 in April and have mixed feelings. When I was in hospital with my broken ankle, I remember thinking I'm in a room with old people......then it hit me. Geesh....I'm one of those old people now.

I totally agree with you and food. I don’t eat much at all and I eat almost the same thing every day. I have one piece of cake or similar with a Cappuccino while out shopping and that is the only thing outside my usual meals. I need control over what I eat and at 69 I don’t have much of an appetite and it works for me so each to their own.

Oh my dear Margaret that is gross using the sponge for dishes on the floor. Yikes 😂 Also about age I remember thinking at 60 it bothering me that if I'm fortunate to live to 80 I only have 20 yrs left. But now at 70 I just laugh and it cracks me up to say I'm a 70 yr old woman. Doesn't bother me. Well you explained it perfectly. Because we feel the same. No matter the age we are still ourselves. In truth tho I feel like I'm 45-50 at the most. Size 10 jeans holy moly congrats. I'm a 16 still. I always say goodbye to people the kind of dread going around to 30 people I'd like to just sneak out. 😂

@MargaretbeingMargaret Aww yes I think so . Wish we live near each other. Also I was thinking when I watched my little one my son and daughter-in-law also asked that she not watch TV. Well of course I put up a little bit of a fuss I said listen my loves I have her 9 hours a day you have her for 2 hours. They got home at 5:00 and she was in bed by 7:00. So I eventually got my way with some cute little educational type shows. And obviously at the age of your little one she's not going to sit still in front of a TV for 8 hours a day. So maybe they'll come to a compromise. Good luck with that lol. First time parents are adorable aren't they 😂

I was so exhausted. I fell asleep at eight woke up at 5😮to be 20 years old again.😢 my grandma used to make those slippers for me. I used to love them.😊😊 I’m so glad you spending time with this sister. I just got back from church. Also have a blessed week my friend 🙏 OK I used to escape. But if it’s family that I haven’t seen for a long time I say goodbye to everybody..At church, I just say a general goodbye because there’s like 50/ 60 people there and I know them intimately so it’s a goodbye and then I leave❤
