I really enjoy Carole Landis' movies. She was a fine actress, and my oh my...what a beauty she was! I really respect her for all the traveling she did during WWII to entertain the troops. I believe she logged more miles than anyone else. It is such a shame that she died so young.

Its telling though how those beautiful male and female movie stars were treated by the press that in her obituary , despite her singing and talent at comedy and drama, Newsweek dismissed Carole as "a body, not an actress." Her face was gorgeous too, I thought.

Its a shame that Carole never received the acknowledgement and honors she deserved for entertaining troops in both Theaters of the War. She should be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.

She was definitely one of the most beautiful women to ever live and she was a pretty good actress too

And a good singer too. She sang in bands before doing movies. Sometimes her singing voice was dubbed, though. Not sure why

She had a tragic end so very young, but it's not the years in your life it's the life in your years and she did so much and left behind some beautiful memories. R.I.P Carole xxx

you are right i believe carole's sister dorothy made the same comments at carole's funeral to the worldwide media. Miss Landis had fan's worldwide and we still miss her after 72 long years!!! Rest In Paradise my darling Carole Francis Landis.

More so than Lana or Rita? Not sure they were stunning in their prime. Gilda was magnificent. Carole had a better body for sure though .Rita was padded and Lana had a huge waist.Ritas legs werent good but Lana's were pretty good.And Carole was a better singer. Lana and Rita were always dubbed. Rita said she would have loved to entertain the soldiers with an act, but her boss, Harry Cohn, was too cheap to get her singing lessons.

The Landis family has been very good about Carole on their website. They admit Carole was bisexual, and , nicely, say the reason she didn't become a big star was because she was no longer Darryl F. Zanuck's girlfriend. She was ahead of her time- she did a layout in Life magazine when a very butch female fan won a contest to meet her with the girl ,and she streaked at parties, 30 years before it became so popular. She fell deeply in love with the then actress(soon to be novlelist), Jackie Susann, while doing a short lived play on Broadway in 1946. The romance was shortlived, but Jackie used Carole as part of her inspiration for the bisexual starlet, Jennifer North, in , of course, the immortal novel Valley of the Dolls in 1966. Carole should be remembered well for the endless touring she did to entertain U S sericemen with Kay Francis, Martha Raye and Mitzi Mayfair during WW 2. The women faced many illnesses and very dangerous situations to help out with the guys. Carole wrote a book about it , Four Jills in a Jeep, that also became a highly fictionalized movie. Carole was a very good patriotic woman. God Bless Her. Forever in Our Hearts.

Carole could have and would have been a huge star like Rita, Betty and Lana, but a meanie named Daryl F. Zanuck saw to it that she will always be, in my thoughts, "The Eternal Starlet." After years of bits and extra roles and some B westerns, Carole Landis became a star in Hal Roach's One Million BC iRoach gave her leading roles in several forgettable films, although they were A movies. Things must have looked bright when she signed with 20th Century Fox. She made an exciting start at the studio with the second lead in the well remembered I Wake Up Screaming. Carole had been giving her favors to Zanuck during lunch hour. Landis and lovely Linda Darnell(who suffered a similair fate as Carole) were Zanuck's two faves. With the upcoming lead oppostie Ty Power in the huge Blood and Sand, Carole, I guess assumed she was a big enough star and told Zanuck no more hanky panky in his office.. Zanuck became enraged He took her off of Blood and sand, and lied to the press, saying she was difficult and refused to die her hair red for the film. He had her second big role cut down in Moon over Miami and her billing lowered. Remarkably , Zanuck saw to it that due to her refusal for sex, Carole went from being a star to being a starlet, He gave her supporting roles thereafter and leads in B movies, either on loanout or at Fox. Though the public loved her(with her 4 marriages i by age 28) Zanuck refused to relent. Only once in 1946, he offered Carole the lead in an almost A level black and white musical , Doll Face. Landis refused it , and Vivian Blaine took the role in the long forgotten film. Free of Fox in 1948, Landis' career prospects seemed promising to me, at least. She was paid 150,,000 bucks(huge money at that time) to appear in two inferior UK movies, released posthumously. They are bad inept movies,. but the salary meant Landis still had some clout. Perhaps, free of Zanuck, she could have finally became a star.She was only 29 years old. The bisexual Landis had attempted suicide before so it wasnt striclty over Harrison that she took her Life. I do believe that Zanuck's making her have such a disappointing career may have played a part in her suicide. On that July 4th 1948 weekend , Carole Landis who would otherwise now be a long forgotten starlet became an enduring part of Hollywood folklore. Critics at that time were vicious about their male and female sex symbols, saying they had no talent aside from their looks. Though Landis could sing, do comedy and drama both very well, in her obituary , Newsweek dissmissed her, rather cruelly as "a body not an actress." I do at least give them credit for not having her death soften their views of Carole. xox

Maybe she did not kill herself. Maybe she threatened to "blow the whistle" on Rex Harrison, for breaking off their affair while Harrison was still married to what's her face?
@johnnymfan50654 жыл бұрын
She defintely did take her Life.. She left a note to her Mother. She had tried several times before. Of course, in suicide, there are always a lot of reasons why the person takes their Life. I do believe that ,due to Darryl Zanuck, she was never able to transition from starlet to star and that career disappointment may have played a part in her death. He would only give her B movies and supporting roles after she told him she would no longer be providing sexual services to him. Lilli Palmer was a good sport, she may not have been that upset about Carole and Rex, though Harrison mysteriously destroyed Carole's suicide note to him.. Lilli divorced Rex when his lover, the exquisite actress Kay Kendall was dying of leukemia in 1959, so he could marry her. Kay was never told she had the leukemia and Rex and Lilli remarried after Kay's death. She would have been a big star had she lived.

Nah I don’t buy it. In those days any woman who publicly came forward admitting to be the other woman would have massacred any chance of having a career in Hollywood. More harm would have been done to her reputation than the man’s. That’s why I don’t buy the whole “Kennedy’s killed Marilyn” fable.

Setting aside the inquiry into her death, does anyone anywhere know the authors of the song "I'm Your Pin-Up Girl"? Were could you find the lyrics?

I just followed along but the only part I found hard was "I am yours for tacks or pins amused collage.,"👍👍 the rest is pretty self explanatory

The last word in the lyric is "mucilage," a kind of glue used to stick down photos.

She was a sad case of what Harvey Feinstein did to women today. Her boss, 20th Fox head Darryl F. Zanuck destroyed her career when she would no longer provide him sexual services. The public loved her, but Zanuck would not relent .This may have played a part in her suicide during the July 4th weekend of 1948. She was only 29 years old.

I don't know of a woman in the world today who could wear so much in the way of clothing material and look so good. Today it is just tattoos and see-through cleavage. Big deal.
