@pagatryx54513 жыл бұрын
@@dracocrusher Personally, 5hrs is 100% too long HOWEVER: It can be excused because of the target audience of the video. A critical essay in literature really doesn't need that type of length, but a lot of the time spent on the essay seemed to go to source material/evidence of his claims or explaining his stance. Realistically, the same video could be 2-3hrs in length without suffering from that much lost content. It's not quantity that led to its length, more structuring. But again, it's excused by the target audience of the video. It's made to be extremely accessible and well explained so that people can't make weak points about failed criticism or "subjective opinions". That made them turn to "Chibnall bad" and "5hrs?!?", but they're obviously weak criticisms as they don't actually dispute the legitimacy of the criticisms within the video. For the video itself, I definitely think a big part of its length comes from the 'walkthrough' structured criticisms and them taking too long. While it's a great way to drive home your point to those who aren't as experienced in literature, I think it suffers in long essays about an entire series as it really bloats the length. It works great for essays surrounding a couple of episodes, or essays that are focusing on a certain problem with the series. But with a more general criticism of the entire series, it ends up leading to its long length. Essentially, a large bulk of the essay seemed to be put into paraphrasing. Personally, I think the essay would be better served with it being segmented into different issues the series suffered from. So, for example, half an hour on the characters of the series, rather than nearly an hour on a single episode. Then, laying out your criticisms/issues with something like the characters without relying too much on the source material to continually prove your point. A couple of scenes supporting your claims are a good thing, but entire episodes with a variety of criticisms leads to the longer length and kind of random structure of actual points made. Really enjoyed the video, BUT its length was an issue. Again, doesn't actually dispute his points, it's only something someone studying/with a career in writing would notice and find issue with.

"The implied misogyny of making a video on the only female Doctor Who" You mean the video in which he spends most of it criticising the white male that made the show and praising the shit out of what I assume is the only episode where the lead writer is a woman and his main point of praise is that the female doctor is demonstrating strength against the male villain who is also demonstrating strength, showing that she's not going to be intimidated by his display of strength? He also spends most of the video criticising the fact that the female Doctor is shown to be too weak, both emotionally and charismatically throughout the series and said that he was more excited to hear that the female lead writer for that one episode becoming a core writer for the next season than he was when he was a child sitting inside an operable Dalek. And since they lack other aspects of their personality, an attack on their favorite things turns into a personal insult to them. They can endlessly talk about how their favorite thing is beautiful. And if you dare to criticize their favorite thing, suddenly standards begin to be imposed. Is the criticism too short? The criticism is superficial. Is the criticism too long? Go outside and touch the grass! All feelings are important, all assessments are valid, any criticism is hatred. Enjoy the product. Don't ask questions. But only you can't criticize. They can descend to the most poisonous and vile personal insults. They will run after you for three days just to tell you how much they don't care about you and how sorry they are for you. Because for them, you are a villain who wants to get a quality product. And they have enough of the available product and they are happy. And you spoil their fun, because you claim that their favorite thing is bad. After all, you can't love bad things and understand that they are bad. Smokers, for example, usually understand that their lungs will not thank them for cigarettes. But they can't admit it. For their favorite things are their personalities. And if they like bad things, then their personality is not so good either.

From my experience on KZbin with video essays, these guys going "Oh god it's 5 hours, it's just a bunch of hate filled bs, isn't it?" have it exactly the other way around. Like, if someone's going to put in the time and effort to go through the process of scripting and editing down the script for 5 hours worth of video, spend countless days just recording the lines, find the right clips, edit those clips in while making sure they won't trip the copyright censors, and everything else that goes into such a huge project, it's not just going to be a rant. By the time anyone just finished recording everything, I'd imagine the anger would be so far past dead that they'd just feel like scrapping it entirely rather than continuing. If someone just wanted to make a rant hating on a thing that people like complaining about for views, it's not going to be a 5 hour long video that's the result of a months long project. It'll probably be like a 20 minute video, maybe an hour if they _really_ push it. That doesn't take nearly the same commitment as a full hours long video essay would.

Hitler did not believe that they were capable of governing themselves and was against any Nationalist movement started by Indians to fight the British. So no, the article writer is incorrect. The Indian legion was simply using the anti-British sentiment in India to gain an additional fighting force for Germany in a different area of the world, it was NOT an act of respect. Howdy... I'm an aged, huge fan of Doctor Who. I grew up in an agrarian community in Virginia's, poverty stricken Appalachian country. So, we had 3 channels available in 1974 here, and if I turned the 13" B&W TV'S rabbit ear antenna just right, I could pick up PBS. That brought Jon Pertwee's amazing Doctor into my life. Later I would utterly fall in love with Tom Baker's Doctor. Doctor Who and Star Trek were my oasis of sanity in an extremely depressing and soul crushing world here. When your mother makes you a ketchup sandwich for your birthday because she grabbed a bunch of packets from a store when no one noticed, Doctor Who telling you that violence doesn't solve problems, becomes a balm for the pain. My anger at what they did to a show that literally made me a better person, far exceeds your own. But, your 5 hour video was very well made, and thought out. If it means anything, I applaud you and respect your views and opinions. Keep swinging and making videos. You're good at it. Take care... Rob / : )

Hey there! WW2 History geek here. Let's talk about why that Indian man would absolutely have been executed by the Nazis in that scene, shall we? So, first of all, there are two insignias that can be referenced from the man's uniform. The show correctly identified him as part of the Waffen-SS from both the shoulder insignia and the insignia on the hat. Let me first talk about the shoulder. What he has there signifies him of a rank of CO or above. More specifically, what I believe to be an Oberführer which is in rank equivalent to a Colonel. I'm making the decision to assume that he is an Oberführer due to the fact that there is no time where you are able to view the collar insignia to determine it, but due to it seeming as though he's in charge of the local Waffen-SS militants, one can easily make such an assumption. In the video, there was mention of the Indian Legion. This is extremely important considering not only the views of the SS and to an extent, the Waffen-SS, but the Nazi High Command all on the views on Indians. They were considered "pathetic", with Adolf Hitler once being on record to state that "...The Indian Legion are a joke." They were not permitted to mix with any German militaries nor allowed to fight in any front other than India and overall were completely segregated from the entirety of the German Military. These of course changed near the latter parts of the war - although - it was during these latter parts whence they joined the Waffen-SS. The Indian Man holds the insignia of the SS-Totenkopfverbände, or in English Terms, SS Death's Head. This division was known for its brutality, sheer disregard for human life other than German and disgust for foreign nations that were deemed to be lesser. They committed atrocities across the entirety of Europe and were in charge of some of the concentration camps and committed countless war crimes. Now, imagine these soldiers seeing that not only has their colonel been shown to be a traitor - but is an Indian. And now consider the views of German High Command on Indians and especially the views of the SS-Totenkopfverbände. He wouldn't live. Thanks for reading lmfao

@@ladrok97 Nazis wanted to create the perfect race, of course, the Aryans - blue eyes, blonde hair, perfect skull structure as seen in Eugenics etc. However - it should be stated that they weren't *against* utilizing individuals from different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. For one, there was the Ost battalions utilized on the beaches of Normandy in Operation Overlord, especially at, iirc, Juno and Sword beaches which were primarily comprised of Soviet prisoners. Russians were considered inferior, but their use of such "inferior" forces demonstrates that they weren't against using "lesser" people. I can understand what you mean, such a person in that power being shown to not exactly be who they believe will obviously spark some resentment and anger within the SS forces there, my goal was to sort of demonstrate just how *screwed* over he was due to that field being disabled

It stems from 2 misunderstandings by the writer: 1. He thinks criticizing the Chibnall era is wrong because it has a woman lead therefore criticism is born out of a hatred of the lead, rather than... everything else. He feels that other eras were skipped receiving the same criticism because the mains were men rather than the whole part where you can't criticize the writing of a showrunner by criticizing other showrunners and the video is 5 hours long already how many days do you think it would take to go through the entire Doctor Who canon for fuck's sake? 2. He thinks that because some Indians were on the Nazi side in WWII it means that Nazis were fine with Indians, would love and protect them and not put them into concentration camps, kill them or otherwise torture them as potential spies if found wearing their army's uniform. Quote: "It also seems that there is some inspiration from the extreme right-wing influencers, like the misguided “Indian man and Nazis” point, and the misogyny that is implied in singling out the series that have had a female actor playing the Doctor."

Funnily enough, that is exactly what the journalist(?) mentioned as well. Quote: "the misogyny that is implied in singling out the series that have had a female actor playing the Doctor." And then when replying to a comment telling him that calling the criticism misogynistic is silly: "When most of the points of criticism apply equally to other eras, but only the Whittaker/Chibnall era is attacked in this way (and it wasn’t always the current era, but somehow this kind of video was rare or non-existing as long as the Doctor was male)." He seems to completely fail to understand that the problem here is that this doesn't invalidate the criticism. It's just essentially saying that as long as there is a woman maining the role of the Doctor all criticism is fascist and misogynistic unless it covers all the decades of Doctor Who content that exists. The video was already 5 hours long and the author only took a single episode of the 5 hours and started "debunking" it and then he wanted the video to cover the entire history? For what reason? Who the fuck knows, this article is bad. Not because it's of a differing opinion but rather because no thought was put into it.

Here's the truth: they don't think their target is sad or emotionally fragile. They want to make their target sad and emotionally fragile, and believe that if they accuse them of being these things it will happen.

It’s amazing how much worse the insults hurled at Jay are than anything she said about Doctor Who. “The characterization is superficial at best and contradictory at worst” vs “you’re a shit person who wastes time that could be spent on creative endeavors.”

I was so confused when i found this out; I mean, sure, general backlash? I expected that. But 'Length-Backlash'?! I legit didnt knew that was a Thing. Since when is Length equal to bad Quality?! I literally always connected it with 'Effort', which of course is a part of Good Quality. I mean, regardless of the Content (which in this case, was epic; evidend by how many people watched it all), this is a good thing? Long Video = Positive, yes????? ? Anyway: Such people as calling someone Hater or even Woman-Hater for LITERAL NO REASON are an EMBARASSMENT. I have no better words; sorry for being harsh; but most of these comments are outright Laughable.

I've never seen Doctor Who before, but I clicked on it out of curiosity. I didn't see how long it was. I watched the whole thing in one go and barely noticed the time fly. Jay should be proud. He single handedly convinced me to watch it... As soon as he watches the Lord of the Rings. Do it, Jay.

@@ziwuri You realise "He" is literally one of the pronouns right? Which is what was used? Also I'm almost certain those pronouns in itself is a joke because he doesn't care what he's referred to as. You pointing it out on all these comments means the joke went right over your head and you're doing the very opposite of its intention. Stop bringing it up.

@@ziwuri I'm not sure i've seen anyone with pronouns laid out in order like that in terms of preference. Not saying people don't do it, I totally could believe that. Just saying me and other people I know just have it as more of a listing of pronouns rather then a best to worst.
@LostKohai2 жыл бұрын
@@ziwuri Again I could totally understand that, and either way I always make sure to call anyone what their preferred pronoun is if they have one. I just think it's worth remember the slash simply means and/or, so most likely people are saying exactly that in terms of their pronouns, not specifically listing them in order. Still, you at least pointed the possibility out, and I think that's worth keeping in mind as well, so in the future I might also try to keep it in mind as a possibility. Just know that not everyone specifically does this, infact I know many who have pronouns they prefer just sort of set randomly.

@@ziwuri And I totally get that, a lot of thoughts we formed can often be carried by our own biases and what not. I absolutely wasn't here to put down you for what you said or nothing if there's anyone thinking that, because I totally can understand that, and tbh anyone who would use pronouns you're uncomfortable with are probably assholes. I just think, while okay to make it known what pronouns prefer, we should also remember that it's not really us who says who someone's preferred pronouns are in specifics, we can't speak for others after all, which I think you already understand anyways given you said so, and that requires a level o maturity I think more people could have.

The point was already talked down but I find it just laughable that this dude really tried to argue, because the nazis had a singular legion of LITERAL PRISONERS OF WAR (POWs being a fancy term for war slaves), that the nazis would have just overlooked his skin color or even accepted Indians is just insane.
@sosogo4real3 жыл бұрын
Prisoners of War are captured combatants, not slaves. Also Penal Battalions were a common practice as both the Nazis and Soviets used them, even on the front lines.
