It’s not actually that hard. I made one myself. Just rent the machines and google tutorials for the cnc program you want to use. The program doesn’t take too long to learn for something simple like this. Maybe like 15-30 minutes. Of course it still takes a while if you want to refine it as much as the guy in the video did.

I just went to Bunnings and bought a fence paling for like $2 AUD, routed some slots in it and sanded it down. sanding was the only difficult part. you don't get the slopers like on a beastmaker, but 99% of beastmaker training is done on the 10-15mm 4 finger crimps anyway. (this was done with just hand tools as I don't have a whole workshop)

One Afternoon and you're good, if you use a router take two pieces of wood so you can easily work on the bottom ones and then glue them together
@gosonegr
@gosonegr Жыл бұрын
Because he didn’t choose the correct workflow. The logical way would have been, rough cutting with a bandsaw, planning stock, glue up, cut to final shape, make a template for the router, just a printed template glued to a 6mm plywood piece and cut with the bandsaw or jigsaw, drill the holes, cut the rebate, chamfering and sanding and finishing, it would be 1 to 2 hours not counting on glueing and finishing. 150 isn’t too overpriced when you count on wood prices, parts they have to scrap because knots or unstable wood grain, products and finishing, but they have around 65% of profit before taxes, specially if they cnc the whole thing in batches and use jigs for glue ups and finishing. An amateur woodworker would charge around 90 bucks or so and still make a good profit, not worth the hassle if you have to buy the tools for sure

Cool project! I made a small batch of hangboards (about 8) with the intent of selling them a few years ago but once you actually go through all the steps and costs needed, it's absolutely pointless financially to make them yourself. Unless, you just want an interesting project or to make one for yourself. 1. Generally a quality wood blank is going to cost you a lot. Unless you can source it from somewhere for free. For me the good quality wood itself (I used oak and birch) was about 20 bucks per board. (I'm located in Europe) 2. I learned to use Solidworks (3D CAD software) just for this project and that took a while. Designed my own simple boards based on existing ones. The CNC specialist had to make some additional changes to my file as well, because I was a complete newbie. 3. I had a friend of a friend CNC route the boards as they had an industrial setup, but generally that process can also be quite expensive. A random service provider asked about 300$ for 5 boards for that job. Not all workshops have the bits to chamfer the edges for example, so that last bit I had to do myself with a Wood router. Which I also bought for the project. So if you're serious, you really need your own CNC setup or a good aquaintance :D Just my two cents. I sold my boards for cheap (40$) to my fellow climbers just to break even and they sold like hot pancakes in 2 days. Was an interesting project. And still have one myself.

Build a beastmaker for $15: Step one get a nice huge slab of free wood somehow. Step two get someone to let you use thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of tools. Step three put in 10+ hours of labour that you aren't getting paid for. How long did it actually take? Its cool that you took the time to do this, but personally I'm glad I just bought mine.

The Beastmaker holds have a radius of about 5-10mm which looks more rounded than what you did. If your holds aren't rounded enough, then skin/pain tolerance will be the limiting factor for training instead of actual tendon strength. Of course, if you have good skin genetics it won't matter.
@hahne9

Pretty nice work, looks great! However, do you really like the holes? The Beastmaker boards still have a way more comfy rounding from the looks of it. And the roundings are what makes all the difference.

Everyone in the comments are crazy saying $150 is a better deal. If you can find a decent piece of wood that’s that is the right size already you can skip the first step he did entirely. The CNC process is easy because there are workshops in most cities you can pay to mill for you. Also I bet there is probably a CAD file for the beast master floating around online so you don’t have to learn how to do any drafting and then just drive to a local engineering workshop and pay $15 for them to CNC it. Also Fusion 360 is dummy proof and free, spend an hour learning it and you can design and modify your hangboard exactly how you want it. The sanding is the only shitty part.

Cool and all, but apparently you only need free access to tools that cost tens of thousands of $$, if not more, to be able to make a beastmaker for $15 xD: 1. A free piece of wood 2. Free access to a industrial size bandsaw or equivalent. (which by itself costs thousands of dollars) 3. Free access to an industrial planer or equivalent (which by itself costs thousands of dollars) 4. $15 (basically free) access to an industrial CNC-machine (which by itself costs thousands of dollars) 5. a set of clamps that probably costs more than the beastmaker itself. 6. Table saw and sander that costs more than a beastmaker. The dewalt sander probably is close to the beastmaker in price too. 7. the porter&cable router is probably upwards of $200. Conclusion: Just buy the beastmaker for $129 and save yourself the time and money.
