I've messaged harbor freight about the lack of power on their compact impacts a few times already but never heard back. I can't loosen lugs, I can barely loosen 14mm bolts and even then I might have to loosen them by hand first. The compact impacts are the only Hercules tools im disappointed by, and I own 85% of them. I mean how do you take a step backward by making you second gen tool even weaker than the first? When other companies do that it's because they're making sub-compact models (ridgid sub-compact, dewalt atomic, makita sub-compact) so thats understandable but to keep the same size and lose power is idiotic. Great job on the Frankenstein, I'm definitely going to look into it the next time I see a Hercules impact driver for $25 on offerup
@Kaleb_RoSs10 ай бұрын
I agree 100% this is the only Hercules tool I got that has truly let me down, hence the decision to modify the driver.

You’d think a 3/8” and 1/2” compact with that driver body setup is coming, like the Milwaukee has now. Same 3 LED stubby in square drive. I’ve been waiting. I have both compacts and yes, they are disappointing. Just picked up the latest hex driver and i’ve been using it with a 1/2” adapter to check out it’s performance… very impressive. Checked some lug nuts i put on with it until it stopped … it ran them on to around 120-140ft/lb.
@kelvis1980Ай бұрын
Are you using an impact wrench like the 3/8 drive or the same 1/4 impact driver? An impact wrench is only designed for max power to take bolts off and impact driver like the 1/4 inch is designed to drive screws and lags in. It's by design. Who needs a 3/8 that can do over 500 ft lbs. The point is to break frozen nuts and bolts.
@timothybayliss668024 күн бұрын
When you bore the nose cone bushing, you can hone it to the right size with a piece of sandpaper taped to a drill bit, spinning in a drill. It leaves almost perfectly circular hole and you can rest and adjust in really small increments. When I put together a gen3 Milwaukee Frankenstein, I drilled the sintered bushing to 5/8 and honed it another 0.040 or so to fit. It was only a couple minutes to hone. I used shell s3v460d2 grease. That's not a great choice for cold weather and got some Valvoline vv985. Vv986 is the same in a 1lb tub.

It's because an impact wrench is designed to have more power backing a nut off. Not putting it on. Its less effective now for rusted or frozen bolts or nuts. An impact driver is for driving in lags and stuff. This whole test just made it less effective lol
