The lava rock adds SO MUCH to this. Lava elementals are my favorite interpretation of fire elementals, the stony elements add so much with the color contrast and rigidity vs the fluidity of flame and lava. This is probably one of my favorites of yours, and I'm so glad you're honest about your varied process because I'm not a planner as an artist and it's reassuring to see another "by the seat of my pants" pantser artist make great stuff
