As a Marine myself I had a big smile on my face when you said your son had signed up for 4 more! I wish him all the success, training, and happiness the Corps brought me! Shop is looking great and small mistakes are just part of the learning game. The good thing is its nothign that requires tearing it down and starting over.

Congratulations on your son! My daughter is just signing up for the Marines, going thru her tests, passing the practice test, and tonight she is with the recruiter along with three other young men that is going to join for the actual test. I only wish the very best for her. Mistakes happens and you conquer it by correcting it and made it possible to finished up the rafters! Way to go, can't wait to see it completed and get all your machinery in!

For EVERY mistake, there is a solution. And we do learn from our mistakes. I am concerned about your wall bracing or lack thereof. The roof pitch is way too low for a northern Maine snowload. Buddy, you gotta get some serious diagonal bracing on those walls and corner!. I would put 1/2" CDX on the entire front wall (inside) or something similar. The front wall with a garage door opening is the weakest part of any garage. Use the longest possible 2x4s elsewhere. The old guys would "let - in"(notch) the studs for the diagonal bracing..Slower though-you decide, Check the corners up at the top for square, and then brace them. Otherwise, your metal roof way end up with a sawtooth edge. Keep going forward and never quit. Congrats on your son the Marine. You must be very proud. Semper fi

Thank you for the kind words and support! Very proud indeed. He made the call and I couldn’t be happier. As for the build, great advice, but stay tuned…lots more to come 😉 The pitch is a bit greater than 5/12 and will work great. My cabins’ and car port are 4/12 and handle the loads well - that said, I get your point. 😊
@woodywoods63803 ай бұрын
Im concerned that you haven't tied the side walls together. The framing load of the roof, not to mention snow load, will transfer through the rafters to the top plate and cause lateral force on the top plate. The walls could bow out and cause the roof to fail. I share the proud dad moment. Our son is retiring from the USAF this year. Ya done good, Pop!
@HanbleceyaRanch3 ай бұрын
Hi Woody 👋 Yep, walls aren’t tied…yet…stay tuned 😉 Thank you for their service 🇺🇸 I can only imagine how proud you must be 😊 I pray we’re able to see our son retire, but we’ve got a few more years to go. Thank you for the support! 😊

How many ticks did you get walking in that tall grass in shorts? I love screws, they give rookies like me a second chance. Mistakes are the portals of discovery - James Joyce

Jason, I am not a carpenter either. My question is will that 2x12 you used to span the roof, will it carry the load over time? Will you install a center post?
@HanbleceyaRanch3 ай бұрын
No plan for a center support. Running 2x4s from wall to wall to stabilize the building. Stay tuned 😉

I’m interested in Maine but I’ve heard the ticks are really bad and limes disease is common up there. As a father of 2 under 2 that’s a concern for me. What’s your experience or anyone else or advice on this issue.
@HanbleceyaRanch3 ай бұрын
@@kylebowman3823 hi Kyle, as it pertains to ticks, I have nothing to report from northeast maine. We’ve been here full time since 21’ and have not seen or heard of anyone around us with a single tick. Like you, we were concerned about ticks but as I’ve been told from the locals, the further north of Bangor you go, the less ticks there are. Whether that’s true or not (for the entire state), I don’t know. All I can say is we don’t have a tick problem (around the Houlton area). Hope that helps.

You know, that’s not that bad of a mistake to make. You can always fix it. Not like you got your sewer pipe wrong 😂. You fear of heights, just look at it this way, if you fall from that height you won’t be hurt badly. Maybe just some scrapes. Great video. I enjoy them. Did you do a video in the past on how you get internet out there ?
@HanbleceyaRanch3 ай бұрын
It could have been worse but bad enough!! 😉 I don’t want to test your theory on just getting scrapes…I will take your word on it! 😂 We appreciate your support! We use Starlink out here. It works flawlessly!! We tried getting a local dish service and that was a huge fail! We love our Starlink! Have a great night!!👍
