I own one car that is universally loved, my 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero. The private jet for the road is great to drive but mine has been parked for roughly 2 years now. We're going back through and replacing all of the parts that I had stored in the trunk to make it a driver again. It's time to fix tons of issues in one day, the jalousie replacement, painting and installing the wiper arms, fixing the intermittent wiper function, replacing the cabin air filter... the list goes on and on. Soon this 9-5 will be ready for takeoff again.

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZbin videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

The plastic push clips that hold the carpet cover over the AC lines, among other places: if you still have the factory tools in the trunk, the screwdriver has a nub on the handle designed for pushing into those clips to release them. You can do the cabin filter using just that tool.

Watching this is nostalgia for my 2004 9-5 Aero 5-speed. I loved that car and I miss it dearly. I had close to 260K miles on it when I let it go. Too much rust and too scared of what would go wrong next. Original clutch, gear box and engine. ran perfectly. Now I find myself looking for another in good shape but not easy to find. Thanks for sharing yours, I'll live vicariously through yours!

SAAB's enginerring is legednary. The OG Top Gear guys did a review of SAAB when it died. GM killed a lot of brands world wide incuding Holden in Australia. Evidently when SAAB entered rallying they had to fit a roll cage but the car didn't need it.

I did the factory method on the jalousie on my 1st of 4 9-5's. It took me 3 hours. My Saab specialist would bill 1.5 hours. Takes 3 minutes with the shortcut and the other 3 have been fine for 2-5 years and 30k+ miles each. Sometimes the Saab factory WIS is terrible! the alternator replacement recommends pulling engine mounts and the pass side axle. If you sand the intake manifold casting ridge you can yank it from the top and it's only a 2 hour job.
@powertothesheeple5422
@powertothesheeple5422 2 жыл бұрын
I cringed when I saw you cut that shifter part but it will work fine like that. A cheap set of torx keys would do the job of getting that plastic cap off the back and slide the leather shifter off. First time it's a task but once you know how it only takes an extra 10 min to remove it. You can also take off the pass side motor mount, lift the engine and you shouldn't have to sand down the intake for replacing the alternator.

"Jalousie" is a type of window that was popular in the 1950's and '60's. It consists of 20-25 horizontal glass plates about 4 inches wide and the width of the window. There is a hand crank and an aluminum mechanism that opens them all up at the same time, allowing air to pass. They look like hell, they allow bugs to enter the house, and they have no insulating properties at all; They work in Florida to some extent but even there they are a BAD idea. Great video!

JAH-luh-see. And the windows are for tropical areas with open/un-airconditioned spaces, so insulation isn't the point at all. They're for maximum ventilation with some ability to close for rain.
@Flies2FLL
@Flies2FLL 2 жыл бұрын
@@llaughridge True. The thing is, they are not needed anymore due to the prevalence of AC, and they are not the hot tip at all in hurricanes/wind storms. Some homes in Key West have been retrofitted with impact glass windows on the INSIDE of the home to preserve the look of the original jalousie windows; This is the best of both worlds since these old windows do have a certain charm. On certain homes.

My Mom had a 2005 VW Beetle and the cabin air filter was a multistep process to access and change. When I sold the VW I did the maintenance including the cabin air filter. It was so bad I put in a note with the miles and date under the first panel one removes to access the filter. The original factory filter I removed had been chewed through by a mouse and he/she took up residence in the dash.
@ryanstevens6010

The cabin air filter job looks a hell of a lot easier than on my Mazda5 6MT. You have to disassemble the center console and then unscrew a cover that’s smaller than the air filter itself. The filter comes in two parts, so you you need to stick one half in, push it up, and then slide the other piece underneath the first without the first one falling down. To make this job easier it’s best to do it upside down, laying on your back. I made the mistake of buying a cheap filter from Amazon. After the hell I went through to swap this annoying thing my car then smelled like cat p!ss, a smell it didn’t have with the OEM filter.

You have to wonder how some automotive engineer designs a car so that regular maintenance items such as the cabin air filters are so convoluted to change. I remember one VW I had (a Passat) where I had to remove carpeted panels from the tunnel and parts of the glove box in order to access the cabin air filter. I took the flexibility of a contortionist to finish putting it back together. After that, I just left it to the mechanics when I took it in for scheduled service.

With the 2005 Mazda 3 cabin filter the removal process was the similar; glove box, two fuse and relay panels to remove, some securing screws at the Hvac, then removal of the cabin filter housing. The filter is in two pieces because there is no way one cabin filter would fit. It for removal. 5 to. 75 hours.

What about the washers on the sub-frame bushings? You still need to swap them so they are on top of the bushing (between bushing and body), there were some comments about this in the previous video

Does this car have the HID headlights? Sometimes the visibility package (park assist, rain sensing wipers) includes HID headlights, sometimes it does not. Really excited if you're upgrading the lame halogens to LED. I've been trying to pick the right LED kit for my 06 Aero without visibility package to LED's or something because the stock halogens are unusable at highway speeds. Happy to see this 9-5 coming back to life!

I thought my mercedes filters are a pain and it has four of them. Two particle filters behind the glovebox and two carbon filters under the kick panel. Looks like the Saab has me beat except I never found any tools in there. Lol I don't even want to talk about the mono-wiper repair.

@@WatchJRGo I think it's kinda neat but I rarely get to use it here in Vegas. No rain! There is a rubber boot/seal at the base that was all dried and disintegrated on mine when I bought the car. Getting the whole mechanism motor and all off the car is not to difficult. It is supposed to split apart so you can slide the old boot off and the new one on. Mine would not separate. The center shaft was frozen in place. So I tore the old one off. I stretched the new one over the whole mechanism. They are pretty thick and are not made to stretch. I managed to do it anyway without tearing it. It works great and the design is ingenious the way it extends out when going towards horizontal on either side and then retracts as it goes vertical so it pretty much covers the whole windshield. I just paid $31 for a Bosch wiper blade for it at Napa. Yikes!

Please don't try and put led bulbs into a housing designed for a halogen bulb. The led bulbs do not output light in the same way and lead dramatically increased glare for other drivers.

Yes. I hate people that just start putting HIDs or LEDs into halogen housings...I've never put them in my cars and I can see perfect with halogen bulbs. Waste of money in my opinion. And I've been working on cars for 14 plus years. I don't even do led signal bulbs or any other bulbs. Nothing wrong with what the car came with and they last a long ass time. My 04 Acura still has its original HID headlight bulbs and they work fine. I just replaced my wife's headlights on her 02 Sonata and they were original. Granted the car only has 106k miles but still.

Try changing the cabin air filter on a 90's BMW 3 series..... it is just as bad..... glove box has to come out, the footwell cover too, an airduct in front of the filter opening and you absolutely have to clip out the wire distribution box right in front of that filter opening..... THEN you can unlock the cover, pull that and the filter..... now do that in a car nearly 30 years old...... be ready to have the plastic parts ready to swap them out if they aren't already broken anyways.....
