I bought a 2006 95 Aero Combi in 2013 and traded it for a new Insignia estate because I couldn't get insurance but I found the exact car a year later and bought it back. I regret selling it as it does everything we need. It's been from Ireland to Venice, took us round Switzerland and there is NOTHING better for a long run with a young family. Parts are easy to get, original parts are no problem. It's easy to see out of, RIDICULOUSLY comfortable and pretty quick.

What a sweet video and Combi! I bought a 2008 9-5 sedan six years ago with 61,450 on the clock for $10,500 US. Now have 98,000 miles. This 9-5 has been an absolute pleasure. Not once has it left me stranded. Between the original owner and myself, the total spent on parts, labor, fluids, wear parts and preventative maintenance has been $2,700. That's in combined 11 years of ownership. The only non-wear parts that we replaced were the heater bypass valve and throttle body. I changed subframe bushings, exhaust, rotors, pads, o2 sensor and PVC Valve and Direct Ignition Cassette and NGK Iridium plugs at 62,000 miles. All Mobile 1 every 3,000 miles since new. Transmission fluid changed ever 3rd oil change. Hoses and belts at 72,000 miles. Two radiator flushes...totally preventative. The Mitsubishi TD04 turbocharger is known to last 200,000+ miles. Same with the timing chain.

I bought an identical Aero a few years back for £450 - my 8th Saab. It had 225k miles on the clock and I would regularly treat it the full fat 0-60 run. I never actually timed it, but it certainly felt like a sub 7 seconds. Huge fun, especially as they don't look like a fast car. Enjoy!

I subbed the second you said im going to camp in it. My Son and I went on tour last summer, around Europe in my 2004 9-5.....2.500 miles in a week and 250k on the clocks. We put a double inflatable mattress in the back and i can tell you we slept like babies and awoke to fantastic views each morning. I fixed two lengths of thin flexable tongue and groove together to wedge in the tailgate opening to stop the mattress getting trapped in the lock....worked a treat. Your right about it being the best looking estate btw. Had mine for 10 years....can't get rid of him...too many great memories. Good luck with your aero.👍

I love your enthusiasm and know exactly how you feel, Blee. With five 95's behind me, each one put a big grin on my face. Impeccably mannered cars, with no handling surprises, although the estates can have an appetite for tyres if you speed fully loaded. Full service, whilst not essential is desirable, as the oil MUST be synthetic. But the previous enthusiast owner obviously knew all that and provided you with a peach.

Hi, Really liked your 3 SAAB videos so far and hope you do more. My 2001 9-5 estate is my very first car. I could relate to you comparing a small hatch vs a luxury cruiser. I had to dig my heels in because friends and some family seemed to think I was buying into expensive trouble. Insurance for me (19yo female) was actually not too crazy but by then it was too late of course because I had seen my beautiful SAAB for sale and had asked the seller to reserve it for me with a deposit. It is Stone gray has aero alloys, leather seats and climate and cruise and amazing stereo and just the most secure and comfortable ride ever. Although I passed my test in a manual this is automatic and that has really helped me as I get used to driving a big car. The previous owner of my car was an enthusiast also and he spent a long time making sure I knew how to look after the car properly and what oil to use et cetera. I loved your camper conversion video also, it really made me smile and I think it was such a good idea but I might use it in future. Anyway, best wishes and you have my thanx and subscription. This engine actually has over 260 horsepower stock, it has been benched to produce almost 280 hp stock, which is pretty unbeliavable. Torque is also higher than factory suggests. Also I highly recommend getting the e85 flexifuel tune, which takes you to almost 300.

Cool review. Got a 2000 2.0 SE sedan, green and beige leather. Like it a lot. Paid double the money, but only got 130,000 miles, first 6 years, 6,000 miles in total. Person who bought it after 6 years, built immidiately an LPG installation of Prins in it. Great combination, since the car is not that fuel efficient, and LPG cost about 35% of regular petrol. And the engine, that is the 2 liter and 2.3 liter, run excellent on LPG. No extra lubrication needed. Did the modification to prefent sludge, a regular problem around 130,000 miles, but sludge is less an issue when driving LPG, LPG keeping the oil cleaner. Be aware to use the right spark plugs. A mechanic who I expected the have knowledge of the right spark plugs, did mount wrong ones (cheap Bosch).It killed the cassette with the bombines. I was Lucky to find a used replacement. New one about 400 pounds. A used one seems, I have been told, that it is not only for the money a better option. Right spark plugs? Go to a specialist, he will know. And there are enough carmechanics around who specialize in Saab.

The only thing it proves is that tree huggers are twats as that was what forced Mercedes to change to waterbased paint. Secondly, I have sat in both brands of this period and the Mercedes was far superior in terms of build quality. There wasn't a rattle in the Mercedes. In the Saab all the buttons had lost their coating the exterior plastics had faded. Moreover, the Saab is little more than a Vauxhall in a dress.

Colm Farrel Lol! Sharing a chassis & some wiring, a Vauxhall does not make! Also did Vauxhall make 4 wheel steering? Saab ReAxs rear wheel steering system, fitted to EVERY 93 from 2003... I`m eating M sports & same level Mercs all day long in my TTiD Aero in a straight line or in the country twisty bits....& as for buttons... Do not get me started on that era Merc "soft buttons"... they last well, don`t they? & water based paint has fuck all to do with Mercs rusting, that`s what happens when you sell out & let the Yanks do your bodywork.... Saab mad since they introduced the 900 Turbo, I only had my head turned by Merc once... 2005 CL 500, saw one, wanted one! 6 months later I traded it in for a Hirsch 95 hot. Window motors, soft touch buttons, hydraulic suspension, keyless go & more... all failed, thankfully whilst under warranty...This is Merc`s flagship we are talking about & it was only 5 years old at the time... could not wait to get shot of it!

@@brobno9 You're chatting rubbish in terms of performance and handling a BMW leaves a Saab in the dust all the day long. This is coming from someone that doesn't particularly like BMW's and wouldn't buy one. BMW are known for performance and you can't take that away from them. Trying to argue otherwise is pure delusion. A mate of mine actually had a 9-3/Vectra from brand new and replaced with BMW 3 series says it all really. Saab used the same engines as Vauxhall's that's a fact so stop making uneducated arguments. Like I said I've sat in both various Mercedes and Saab's from this period and the Mercedes build quality is far superior it's not debatable. Even at the time of release people were criticising the Saab interior. Like I said the button coatings were all off the Saab's meaning it was a process of trial and error to find the right buttons if you didn't know the car. Again, you're chatting rubbish the W211 E500 which iis basically identical to a cls500 is a reliable motor if looked after properly. Stick to your squeaky squeaky rattly Vauxhall.

These cars were really solidly built and good to drive, I always wanted the 900turbo 16v aero years ago but never could afford one unfortunately but still loved the ones I had. absolutely its one of the nicest wagons on the market...in 2011 anyway. I wouldn't worry about the miles, a friend of mine bought one new in Amsterdam as a taxi, replacing his BMW 5 series. He now has 648,000 km's Those I might add are hard kilometers, not the average commuter a bloody taxi racing down crazy streets passing cyclists by inches... its amazing how these cars last under such duress everyday for six years. Not sure why this hasn't reached our shores because riding in a six year old Camry or a crown vic over a saab (-5 wagon or another 5 series BMW. They swear by them and I can see why...they last. Its too late now, the next taxi he is going to buy is a Tesla or the e-Camry. It only makes sense.. NYC Taxi, owned by the city should ave switched to the e-Camry two years ago...... Im an idiot... e years instead of haphazardly mixing manufacturers .. What am I talking about...sorry. Yes indeed.... still to this day my favorite car, within a decent price range would be a 92 Saab SPG three door. Killer engine, amazing turbo, that car told you when it was happy, it truly did. Incredible ride, tons of power and its larger than a volvo wagon with the seats down...a great car indeed. Money and parts... Id hunt down a Audi A8 200 to 06 great price, great car. same gors with the 735 or 740's fabulous rides for the buck.. 99 to 2008. Three great cars you can buy for a song.

Great car, I personally own a 2002 9-5 Aero (also Wagon). One thing I noticed directly is that you’re missing the roof spoiler on it (can even see the holes on top of the back of the car for it to be mounted in), normally it being a Aero it would have that spoiler there. I've always had a bit of a thing for Saabs, but never had the opportunity to drive or own one until last week. Yes, I splashed 600 quid on a 2004 9-5 Aero estate auto. It is absolutely wonderful to drive. I love the easy , effortless way the car just gets on with it. It might be thirsty, there might be the odd leak here and there, but it's my thirsty, leaky, luxo-barge...

Very nice 95 Aero Wagon model year 2005. It's the 2nd best year probably, after 2004. It's relatively loaded with equipment :) but there's still something to be desired, like autodimming mirrors, ventilated seats, harman/kardon sound system, CD changer, sliding trunk floor, etc etc. It's enormously practical car, good looking and I have a 1999 and 2001 example of the same, amongst other ~10 SAABs. Even thoug I have older iconic classics or newer powerhouses 2.8V6, 95 Aero remains my most loved model as for the feelings I have in the car and the perception of performance versus what the car really is. Torque gets me :) every time.

@PeterChomanic
@PeterChomanic 5 жыл бұрын
@@BleeCarswell many later (2002+ facelift) Aeros were less equipped than pre-facelift versions, apart from option for autodimming of outer mirrors and their folding. Seat ventilation or rear seat heating, even the HK sound system were less and less used, not sure why. You should be happy for not having that navigation, but a normal radio there :) which still dates the interior less than oudated touchscreen tech :D otherwise it really seems like a decent car, definitely when considering the mileage. As for the fuel consumption, maybe check vacuum hoses + one-way valves, replace spark plugs, change the oxygen "lambda" sensor and clean mass airflow sensor. Then reset ECU by unplugging power for 15+ minutes. I believe you should see pretty positive results with those things renewed.

You can run around 310hp at 20psi but that's the limit on a stock bottom end. And perfectly good for nearly all real world driving situations. Obviously change the exhaust from the turbo back! Get it set up properly on a rolling road and only use Shell V-Power and you'll be fine. You might also opt for an aftermarket boost controller. Also a good little trick, crank the preload right up on the actuator - so much more responsive!

Really enjoyed the video! I've got an 05 aero sharktooth saloon, and if you think the estate is rapid; then you should feel the slightly more athletic thinner brother! The reason that 1st and 2nd feel as lethargic compared to 3rd and 4th; is because Saab limited the torque in those gears to stop people like me ripping the gearbox apart hehe! I've been told that a decent set of tires, the bilstein b12 kit and an updated rear anti roll bar can transform the 9-5 chassis into having some highly impressive road holding abilities! Check out Abbott Racing if you want to get an idea of how tunable these cars are; though I'm sure you have heard of them of you've had a Saab before. Keep up the videos!

Very reliable too and i need it to be because i drive very much. Mine is the 4-speed auto which suits the character of the car brilliantly, the gears are very long too. It revs 4000 at 200kph, mine tops out at about 215kph on flat ground (i have tried, yes.) and downhill i’ve done 245kph. Felt just as stabile and relaxed at those speeds as it does at 90kph. @@BleeCarswell There were several cars I was interested in and my criteria were clear and simple: Good looking and (relatively) fast in a straight line :) I was not interested in boot space or handling. It should not drive like a boat but cornering speed was not first priority. So I looked for Saab (9-3 and 9-5), Skoda (Octavia and Superb), Mercedes (C, E, CLK and SLK) some BMWs and Hondas. Some of these were too expensive, other too boring. So I decided to take the SLK because I thought a convertible will be cool. But it only was for the first months :) Nevertheless it was a good decision. I had the car for 5 years and never had any problems with it.

Second hand cars are way too expensive here. But they seem abnormally low in the UK. I put this down to it being more expensive to run a car in the UK (road tax, pricy insurance ...) and also a smaller overall market because it's tough to sell an RHD car in LHD continental Europe. Good news for expats like me 😉.

Torque is limited in first and second because all you'd get is wheelspin. Third and up is unlimited and the manual transmission gets 20 seconds of overboost that would have broken the Aisin 5-speed automatic. If it feels a bit low on power when hot, replace the large white vacuum check valve and attached black pipe leading to the left side inlet to the PCV catch can and you're good for another 60,000 miles. (Because it's a Saab, lots of other things will go wrong in that time but the 2004-5 have everything worked out that they could possibly work out.) For 2006-9 GM cheapened the interior with the exception of the seats, and the 2010-11 is a full-on GM car with few parts available. I love mine but I definitely wouldn't want to buy fuel for it in Britain. Since I've had both I know that the manual gets at least 6 mpg more than the automatic so that's something. RIP Saab.
