Great project and video, thanks! Would be nice to have a separate tutorial on how to set up the ssl/https connection with the esp (for general use, not only this specific script)

MrDIY, Just to let you know, I have put off of my project for the last two months all due to between the jobs, and today, I have completed your project using .bin file instead of .ino files. I flashed without using Arduino and I find this interesting. It works! As I mentioned two months ago about using 3.7v lipo battery; it works as well. Even thought I turned on and off, each time when it turned on, it re-write on different files itself without me pulling the sd card out. Funny things is that it time dated stamped: 12/31/2097! Thank you for the awesome and interesting projects which keeps me out of boredom! 😁😂🤣Kudo to MrDIY!

This is awesome, thank you! And on a sidenote, I really enjoy the pace & format of your videos compared to other diy tech youtubers -- I prefer the shorter videos.

really cool project. I think it would be useful to have a version that only logs the SSID/APs to a file and nothing else. Then, when it detects the home network it connects and pushes those into something like HomeAssistant which can process them into history for the vehicle using the google maps api. That way the device is just a fancy wifi AP recorder and people can use it for lots of different applications. Thanks for sharing!
@MrDIYca3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, it can definitely be done that way. The reason I went the other way is I wanted a system that doesn't require any external dependencies ... but I do see how, for some people, it might make sense to have it integrated with a home automation system.

Great for a buildup area, with WiFi everywhere. Not great at all for rural areas. Even when traveling fast on a highway you may miss that hotspot flashing past? Better to just add a GPS module for a few bucks, and it will work anywhere.

Hi I have tried to follow your post and create my own Esp Data logger but I am stuck because the download file is a bin file and not the actual script file. I can write the bin file to the device but how do I then change the Wifi and google settings ?

Have to be in a populated area for this to work IMHO

My Esp8266 wont connect to IDE. Is it possible to use an ESP32 instead just for looking at local Access Points and running a DFPlayer to announce locations?

MrDIY, I find the video interesting. Normally I do several GPS and Geocache around town. I have a interesting questions. Instead of using usb power cord, can I use 3.7v lipo battery to power the board? I hope this might help, however, can I use this without using RTC board? Thank you, Damian from Smyrna,Tennessee, USA
@MrDIYca2 жыл бұрын
The WemosD1Mini has a lipo shield (amzn.to/34ZTt3r) that you can use for the battery. As for the RTC, you can do without however you won't be able to tell the time the trips took place.

Could you try to make an esp32 odb dashboard please ? Tried for some hours but had to stop, just wanted a small oled screen to add some info as battery voltage, consumption, etc.

Should be - as long as there are APs around to scan.

No, it doesn't matter. The MAC address is the only thing that is needed - connecting to the AP is not required.
