The way that the embroidery didn't catch the dye and became an accent👌👌👌

I imagine the best and easiest way to get the scrappy patch sizes of the original done would be via crumb quilting. If you ever want to make something else like this, look it up! The technique is so fun and simple and fast! No precision required! Obviously there is absolutely nothing wrong with the patch quilt technique you used and it looks fantastic, but thought I'd share the crumb idea out for you or anyone else considering this type of look.

Thank you for this wonderful comment! It’s so useful! I have to confess I am already saving up more scraps (does my dog need a Bilbo robe 🤔?) and I can’t wait to try this new technique! It was hard trying to quilt things with no experience and this is such a good place to start my next quilting project ❤️❤️❤️

Dog Bilbo done would be hilarious and amazing! I'm glad my comment was useful for you! I hope you enjoy crumb quilting. I've just recently begun this technique myself and really enjoy it. Always nice to spread the love!

Love this! I’m an avid crumb quilter and started daydreaming of a robe like this as soon as I saw the thumbnail.

Was interested in everything you talked about in this video, even the wrapping paper trick, although I don’t think I have the patience to paper a wall. Would probably just frame a piece of beautiful paper like a work of art and hang it up. I’m grateful for your comparison between the three historical skirt patterns. I have been interested in all three and just couldn’t make up my mind. The swishability factor is extremely important to me, so I have decided to go with the ripple skirt. Once my scrap pile is big enough, I fully intend to create my own version of the Bilbo Baggins robe. That was WONDERFUL!

I love the idea of using yellow dye, many times older white garments tend to loose their crisp whiteness plus I could never keep it spotless and the yellow is so much fun as well. Cotton dye goes on my 👗bucket list ✅

I am definitely making a bilbo robe at some point, yours is so beautiful, and I love your 'wallpaper' 🙂

You can use laundry starch to adhere fabric to the wall similar to,wallpaper. Supper accurate vintage technique with good video tutorials online. Retailers like Missouri Star Quilt Co. and Sew Yeah Quilting are excellent for high-quality yardage.

Friends - I highly recommend Retro Clean for white garments that have yellowed. This product was developed to restore/clean old quilts and restore crisp whiteness. It works! It’s also gentle, and I’ve used on vintage pieces. Even delicate lace doilies came out beautifully.
