This is genius, man! A few years ago I had a pair of 3'x4' boards that I used for a full up 4'x6' and stored them by just tossing them up on some milk crates to serve as a table for other hobbies and jobs but they were flat and boring when out for some games. This idea of yours has a load of potential and while our walls are already crowded with my art, I bet I could sneak a battle field or two in there eventually.

A great idea. Look forward to seeing how you develop it. My current plans for gaming boards is to use a couple of laser cut model railway boards I got for a project that has been paused due to moving, being 3x2ft a couple should be sufficient and they're very light and don't need a table (which is handy as we currently have no dining table!) As I have trestles for them, but integrated legs will probably happen at some point. Storage is still something to figure out though, but a few options are possible.

Great idea. Only downside I see if you are gonna combine boards where the frame is higher than the board. I guess what you could do is make the board flush with the frame and maybe have some thin bits of mdf to Velcro onto the frame edges or just the corners to keep it off the wall when you have it hung up? Would be better for playing across 2 or 4 combined. you still have the problem of basically having the frame make a grid running through the board

Looks great Luke! I personally don’t care if people don’t like my wall hangers lol but similarly I found at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby (can’t remember which one) some cork board wall hangers in both 2x3 and 4x4. Unfortunately at the time I wasn’t able to purchase either of them but I had a similar idea to create a small gaming table using both sides to create different types of ground cover on each side.

Hey Luke! If you made one of the frame's side removable (with magnets, for example), then you could join to pieces together pretty smoothly. That way, you would't have to connect both pieces in a way that can look artificial (hills or field leveling...). Hope it is useful!
