Hey Guys!
I made a jumper on my knitting machine!! Spolier alert - It was a success 😆 I'm not really calling this a tutorial but I tried to explain everything as best I could (without knowing what I was doing 😆). This video will show you the exact technique I used to make mine, so hopefully you find it helpful!
Method and links below 👇🏼
You will need approximately 300g of 8 ply/ DK weight yarn. I used the Venture yarn in Yellow from Lincraft (link below).
Body Panels - 85 rows x 44 stitches
Arm Tubes - 65 rows x 48 stitches
Knitted Ribbing - 9 rows of knit 2, purl 2 ribbing

OMG! I love that she's just "letting us watch" instead of doing a "tutorial" because this is exactly how I knit. Even when following a pattern I usually wind up changing stuff. FUN!!

Very interesting, Just a little tip, when you are joining two pieces of knitted stocking stitch together, with a wool needle and working from the front of garment pick up one stitch working from left to right picking up the stitch on the opposite side this method gives you the appearance of a stocking stitch. Just be careful not to pull the yarn too tight. Trust this is helpful to all you knitters.

Same here! I was really close to buying one of these after seeing these kinds of videos but I ended up buying a flat knitting machine, the lk-150 and honestly I'm so glad I went that way instead, mainly because you can do one panel in one piece and not have to attach 2 pieces to make the front panel! I absolutely LOVE IT

I've somehow always thought knitting machines were somehow "cheating" - and also wildly expensive. But... That's just rubbish, isn't it? I mean, if you just want to get something done quickly, why on earth NOT use the easiest method? And a simple knitting machine like yours obviously can't do what a commercial knitting machine can do - but it's also a heck of a lot more affordable! It looks fun, it looks easy, and I saw one similar to yours in a local supermarket at a bargain price... Got to try it! So thank you for opening my eyes to new possibilities. Who knows; maybe with a machine I can actually do a large knitted blanket like I've always wanted - but couldn't face doing on needles...

@@Katieree Well, I bought one and it's quick and kind of fun - though I miss the many options you have with needles. But for a quick hat and a scarf? It did the job! And some of the ways of combining tubes by braiding dropped stitches would almost make up for the lack of cable knitting in a blanket, for sure. I'm sure there must be many more ways to manipulate the simple knit after it's done - so... It's simple, but it's possible to get creative in spite of the limitations of the machine! (Also, my very cheap machine drops stitches a LOT - but I think that's a matter of practice and of keeping an eye on it all the time. With hand knitting I can watch TV or read while I do it, but with the machine I definitely need to watch it.)
@theTerriberg
@theTerriberg 11 күн бұрын
@@CopenhagenDreaming yeah and also...cheating what? Where's the competition? Is there a competition? Is using a washing machine cheating rather than beating your clothes down at the river? Using a sewing machine instead of hand sewing? Where does it end? And again...what game are we cheating at lol

I mean are you telling me once I am able to do something like this I could use this type of method or whatnot and go ahead and also make an AWESOME pair of knitted sweatpants to go with the sweater as some comfy PJs? Or wait even better, I can make Pants, a Sweater, Socks, and a Hooded Cloak to go together, Noooo Even Better an Adult Super Comfy Onesy lol. Where has this been all my Life? Man, I should have paid attention in Home Ec

I recommend that you start with something simple like a scarf and a hat. When going on to larger stuff like sweaters and pants, it’s a good idea to look at some easy patterns for sewing first, and then on paper, convert them into squares you can stitch together, as squares is what the knitting machine makes. If you have a sewing machine, you can make way more advanced looks. You only need a machine that has the two basic stitches.

As a previous knitting machine user, I would stitch the panels together for the body, then stitch the shoulders together, then hang one of the sleeve edges on the machine, then knit the sleeve. If, and that's a big if, the sleeve takes the same amount of stitches (or less than) as the kids you can make.

User... this is because the Craft Knitter Machine is really a Toy to that of a genuine Knitting Machine (where you can dial down to a Smaller (tighter) Stitch. Especially so on Shoulder Seams ! Or where the weight of the Fabric pulls a lot on these Stitches. Tip : You could Knit the whole Jumper (UK Sweater (USA, AU,NZ) on this Machine, and cast off on Waste Yarn too. BUT... in putting the pieces together you either : 1) Crochet on the Wrong Side the Seams together by going through at least x2 Stitches (in that you slide your Hook through x2 Active Stitches. By doing this the 'Edge' joins are a bit Stronger (x2 Stitches are more Stable, therefore Stronger !) Or... 2) At the Junction of the Last Stitch Row of Knitting Machine Knitting (not the Waste Yarn !) You pick up and Transfer all Live Stiches to a Smaller (Super Long Double Ended Flex Cord ) Knitting Needle. Do this both for Front, and another for the Back Panel. (Maybe the same for Sleeves... haven't seen that bit at time of writing !) Knit a Row of Knitting so these Stitches are a lot Smaller (tighter) until you have done the full Row ! Do same with its Joining Mate. Then hold these x2 Flex Cord Needles together (So Good Side of Knitting is inside Face to Face.) Get another Needle and Knit of a Front + Back Sts together, and then Knit it Off. Continue Knitting "Loosely" so Fabric can Stretch. Do all, you should end up having lovely Smooth, Stretchy, no Gap or Holey Seam Construction ! 👍 Hope this helps. 😎 My thoughts : Are that these Craft Knitting Gadgets are basically "one fits all" Knitting Machines... No Tension, No Stitch Sizing, No Garter Stitch Option... "Toys" ! If you know they produce large amounts of BASIC Fabric and you can adapt this, great. Otherwise, learn proper Knitting on Knitting Needles, or buy a Basic Flat Bed Knitting Machines : Some can take Thick / Chunky Yarn too... probably for less £$€ than this Videos version... if you search eBay etc. Then you can Knit "Real Garments" etc... Just saying. 🙄 Hope this helps. (KNITTING is basically like Engineering, if you understand the basic Construction you can Tweak (Wing it !) On everything else on making stuff... Scarves, Hats, Socks, Tops, Skirts, etc. 😉

😊 Great first attempt at a sweater. I used to machine knit so I have a few tips. I would suggest you learn how to block your pieces. You don’t have to always do it, but it’s useful to know what difference it can make to the item. This will be easy as you are already using waste yarn. This will give your work a better overall finish. Check the differences between blocking wool yarns and acrylic yarns. For example coned Shetland yarn needs to be knitted very loosely because it’s spun in oil and when the pieces are washed it releases the oil and the spaces fill up with wool fibres giving a lovely soft knit fabric. Acrylic yarn can also be pressed and ‘killed’ into flowing fabric or just shaped with pins and then water sprayed and left overnight to dry. You would need to test how a piece of knitted acrylic reacts with or without pressing, steam pressing, hover pressing, pressing with a muslin cloth just pinning to shape etc. You could pick up many more finishing tips from machine knitting tutorials. Finally overlocking pieces makes them easy to cut and sew. An overlocker is best for this, but a zig zag can also be used and even a straight sewing machine stitch can be used. Do check out how to do Cut and Sew knitwear.

How clever. The only thing I don’t care for is the gapping at the neck where the stitches are stretch. I wonder if duplicate stitches would close those up.

The way she picked up the stitches when she was crocheting them to each other is how you'd pick them up with the needles, you just need to make sure you pick all the stitches up the same direction, do dont pick one up going from back to front and then the next one front to back for example, you need to pick them up the same way for every stitch.. there would be loads of videos on here on how to pick stitches up from waste yarn though but it's simple enough once you know not to change the way you pick them up once you start😊

If you have a horisontal join along the front, it should be pretty invisible if you seam them using mask stitches. It would be just like adding a row which joins the two pieces… Right? 🤗

Nice video! I think I would have undone the crochet edge of the top while the waste yarn was still in place and made the neck hole bigger. Might be a good idea to then use a bigger crochet hook to go around the neck opening. Thanks.

Hi Kate. I stumbled across this video and was intrigued. Just a thought on working out the length of the piece while it is still on the machine ... could you measure the row gauge of the part that is knit and free from the machine end. This could then give you an idea, for example, that 'x' rows = 10cm.
@Katieree
@Katieree 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely you could!! I just suck at maths 🤣 but yes you could use a gauge 100%! ❤️

Hi, excellent video... expecting my Sentro 48 pin machine tomorrow, quick ? If you don't mind..... instead of seaming the front of the jumper together, do you think it would hang nicely if left open like an open cardi?... I was thinking go of picku up stitches along the front sides and collar to had a ribbing,,,, also for the sleeves and bottom of the front and back
