Nintendo were too lazy to make a controller out of wood, so i did it for them!

Yep there's a lot of them, usually from poorer Asian countries. Where they "find" the item on the side of the road, after poking through garbage for 5mins. Then once they open it up you can see brush strokes of mud on the inside. And they usually dump electronics in water and scrub them. Elliot Coll from The Retro Furure has done some commentary on some, and also done a parody video. What's worse than that is animal restoration (usually turtles), where the bastards glue coral to the turtle and then rip it off them. These fake videos get lots of views because the thumbnail is of the dirtiest device, caked in mud and fake rust.

Why didn't you use the strains os the cord to guide and pull the wires through?

There was no way to attach them to the wires without adding extra bulk, meaning they wouldn't thread through. The wires only just fit through. My buddy pointed out afterwards that I could've tried running a single wire through, and then soldering that to the controller wires, without adding any width to the wires. That could have worked.
