will you publish the wall plug also? I would love to build this
@SamMarch3 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin! Unfortunately, I'm not planning on releasing the wall plug plans. Normally I am all for releasing all files I have for all my projects, but for this one particular project, I decided against it. The reason is that working with wall power can be extremely dangerous if not done correctly (and without sufficient care). While I am sure there are many that could make sense of the plans and be totally fine, I would rather not risk someone potentially getting hurt at my expense. I hope you understand.
@Xydail2 жыл бұрын
@@SamMarch Do you think you could build something on like an ESP32 which features BLE, Bluetooth and Wifi as a middleman and from there use MQTT to switch on something like Sonoff devices with Tasmota? Or could you PM me the files? I would really like to make a marriage proposal with this thing and the original wands are garbage at best. I am very well versed working with mains power. Also I understand that you are careful to put something out that works with mains power, but people should understand that mains voltage is dangerous from a very young age and you can easily buy hefty tesla coils online.

@@SamMarch I meant Bluetooth xD Awesome! (so if I got it right, you use Bluetooth to get proximity and communication between the wand and the plug, and then you use the accelerometer to detect gestures, which then tell the plug to turn on?)

Sweet. Obviously this now needs an internal lipo and wireless charging, so you don't have to disassemble it every time the battery runs out (and not disturb the perfectly "analog" exterior by adding a USB port for charging). I suspect right now it works selectively in the sense that it connects to the nearest "smart plug"? Have you considered making a unidirectional antenna to pick out only the plug you're pointing at, using the omnidirectional antenna to then communicate to that device while completing the waving gesture? That might make it work through walls and should make it work with an arbitrary number of devices in range (provided that the spatial separation is sufficient for the unidirectional antenna).
@SamMarch3 жыл бұрын
It actually is running on a LIPO! It has a 10440 cell inside (same size as AAA). The metal rings near the top and bottom of the leather wrap that you see at the end of the video aren't just decorative. They are charging pads! As for how it connects, the wand actually acts as a BLE beacon, so no actual connection is made. The entirety of the wand gesture is encapsulated in the advertising data. This means the plug is responsible for deciding to turn on or not. The cool thing about this is that it lets you turn on 1, 2 or 50 plugs all at the same time. The gesture you make with the wand (whether you swing up-left-right or up-down-left, etc.) determines what plug comes on! It's kind of like naming each plug by a specific gesture.
@J0ermungand3 жыл бұрын
@@SamMarch Oh wow, that's a sneaky lipo then; forget I mentioned it :P May I be the first one to suggest to name it a GP-Address? (Gesture-Protocol-Address)? The data transfer protocol would then be TCP/GP :D
