Thank you :). Birds really don't need much for water ! I made this fountain, but they prefer the simple bird bath on the back. The material is good for them, they don't slip in it. It has a few steps so doesn't go deep too quick. At the moment, magpies just drink in it, not crazy bath. The pigeon sometimes spend up to 30 minutes in it ! And sometimes 2 at the same time, completely taking over.

The birds seem to like shallow water. We got a regular bird bath but the birds didn't take to it while a big terra cotta saucer with a little water was party time!! Loved this video.

yes! deeper water in true bird baths need to have different height rocks placed in them so the smaller birds feel more confident. A lot of people don't realize that!

There are 2 other baths, he is ok :) . he is really curious and explore all the bird features in the garden, event the ones more adapted for small birds.

I made a solar fountain with the exact same container, I bought it in Wilkos for £18.50, went into B&M to see if they had any decorative pebbles and they had an almost identical container for £5.99.

The first one to visit was a baby sparrow :). But most birds prefer the more simpler bath that's just behind. It was fun to make though.

I have another video for the making of the fountain, with some more detail on the different components. I used AISITIN Solar Fountain Pump, 2.5W Solar Powered Water Pump (£16). That one doesn’t have a battery. The pump came with a few attachements. The pipe alone does gentle flow, then some bits can be attached (kind of, with some tape!) to the pipe to create the fountain.

European magpies have colourful feathers at the back and on tails, a mix of blue, purple, pink reflections.

I know… I think originally it was supposed to be real grass but the quality of the soil was not good. It makes ‘gardening’ more difficult, at the moment everything is in pot. I’m considering raise beds. That could be a next project !

@@ChattyBirds fair play, healthy lawns are tricky when the soil is poor. if there's no kids who need the space to play you could just sow wildflowers until you get the raised beds sorted. always fancied a chamomile lawn myself but my s/o just qrranged to get our sad lawn re-turfed

Larger than the magpies ? I think around here that would be seagulls 😂 and they are not soooo welcome ! I do have a larger dish that they use sometimes, but the favourite is the simple green dish we can see in the background.
