Looks awesome, but you'd likely want a guard to protect your hands and a pommel so the sword isn't so forward-heavy. You could drill out a section of the hilt and throw in lead weights for an invisible 'pommel'.

If you want cleaner lines might be good to rig up a jig, to keeps the blade steady and even, while grinding.

yeah but for such a big blade it would be kinda weird to work with a jig and i like the free hand style i can adapt easily

@@forgeworks3176 It ain't gonna be a big jig. Something with some adjustability for straight edged blades would give you a lot more control. But I get what you mean. We all got a good look at yer free handin', what with you nearly loosing your nubbins and all.

What's tactical about having no crossguard, a grip that gets slippery easily, an awful ballace due to said missing crossguard and the introduction of 2 potential breaking points near the hilt? Looks really cool though, I'll give you that.

Not really seeing this breaking near the hilt. Plenty of material. Crossguard wont do much for balance either. A pommel/weights in the handle would be nice though!

Cool Sword!. Sorry about your contact wheel and SC belt and happy you didn't get cut up. I had the same thing happen to me when I was first using a SC belt and didn't know I shouldn't grind against an edge. My wheel was only 6in though, so not that expensive to replace.

@@ReluctantLightningForge me too man i couldn’t have ended much worse! I have 3 10” contact wheels 😂so wouldn’t be to mad with them but the 16” is kinda bad but i am already in contact with the company to fix it

If you put a guard on it that will be very functional for me. Having a sword guard makes it more tactical. But still very solid piece it's good.

yeah i spoke about it in the video. I sliced into my contact wheel while grinding and it through the sword against my workrest

@@corbwools0203 yes definitely if i do more of these blades for sure. A heattreating oven would be perfect world. Next time i wanna place a long a steel tube into the forge that displaces the heat more and even

Much respect for freehand grinding this big knife...glad u are all right...twice a belt broke n slapped me on the head...no fun..but what happened to u is worse ... Something I am always thinking about when sharpening edge leading on my grinder....what if it cuts the belt ... 😮

@@forgeworks3176 Am still using belts from 10 years or more ago...left from when I started using a bigger grinder n Had a belt supplier who offered me 50% on all the good 3M n VSM belts... Always fun...U never know when or If they Pop...😜

Need a little help here. Trying to figure what is making the item "tactical"? AFAIK swords are by their nature "tactical". Is the term being used in some fashion I'm not catching...Help?

@@BruceWSims yeah alot of people call my knives tactical because of the more darker finish and the rockpattern i use. But in functional there is nothing that males it more tactical

How hard did ur blade end up? Not a bladesmith, just a couch critic 😅 but that blade looked like it didnt reach critical temp? No shade, just curious i promise 😅

Yeah it looked super weird in the video but a file wasn’t biting in the whole blade length. I was also skeptical but it hardened all the way. Lucky me that whole process took over 45 min😅 but it was perfectly fine. But a longer heattreating would be the perfect world for sure to get it way more exact. If i would sell swords i would get one that could fit longer blades

Nice, yeap try to work over the wheel upper diameter not the lower section. I would like to see the Grade 5 Titanium Blade sword though it is a harder and more expensive metterial.

@@azhuransmx126 yeah was a stupid mistake by me. The sword grinding was over 4 hours in the summer heat. My head was probably just mush😅 Titanium is an amazing material but not great for swords

Hey, not sure if anyone said anything before but might be a good idea to slowdown when you show the blade/blade patterns. Sadly in this one you went to fast and I couldn't really enjoy the craftmanship. Overall good vid and you have a sub from me ;)

I didn't know just grinding away at a flat piece of steel constituted as "making a sword". I'm too used to seeing people forge it out from billets I guess. And the heat treat did not look at all hot enough or consistent enough throughout the blade to make it reliably hard.

yes it is also possible called stock removal. I would love to forge one out for sure. But i have a full time knifemaking job so i can’t spend a whole week on hammering on a piece of steel and it also goes to show that you can definitely make a sword without crazy forge equipment

Das Problem ist leider, daß es nur zur reinen Dekoration nutzbar ist. Ich weiß ja nicht was sie bei der Herstellung dachten was sie tun, doch Sie haben direkt eine "SOLLBRUCHSTELLE" eingearbeitet. Naja, bei Trägern von Gesichtsteppichen und drüberliegendem xxx Balken weiß ich sowieso nicht das in DEREN Kopf vorgeht. Weiterhin gutes Gelingen ✌️👍

@@dirkbenning9489 Man kann auch Spaß an einem Projekt haben und nur das ist der Sinn. Wie ich in dem Video auch sage war es ein Teststück für ein anderes Projekt. Nur einen längeren Schliff üben und nichts drauß zu machen wäre sinnlos für mich. Also kann man damit etwas Spaß haben

no worries mate. I just called it like that because alot of people are saying my style is tactical. The Stonewash the rockpattern and all that kind of stuff. Still thanks for the comment 💪
