I made a TIER LIST for all the BEST SM64 SPEEDRUNNERS

So we made a tier list for a bunch of top speedrunners! This was super fun and also super hard to make. Let me know in comments what you guys think and who should be switched if any!

Would have loved to see Bubzia or Nobori on this list; even though blindfolded is a speedgame on its own, I think they're still goated in SM64.

This list is pretty damn spot on with how I would’ve ranked them. The only player I really disagree with is Dowsky. He should either be before or after Kanno in SS. He’s held triple wrs in 16, 1, and 0 all at the same time just like Kanno has. He has a 14 in 16 star, 47 in 70 star, and a 139 in 120 star, along with top times in 1 and 0 without having played those categories in 2-3 years. He also has more raw skill than Kanno imo and got a 14 in 16 star relatively quickly after his long break. The only thing holding him back imo is that he doesn’t compete at live events

Kanno is great, he's held 3/5 wr at a time but right now his pbs and skill at the game would make him S tier in my opinion, but the 3/5 legacy and wr he's had gets him to SS tier. If we consider the legacy you should follow the same pattern as Kanno and end up in SS tier in my opinion but I also can understand the S tier.

JQ is a boss, D tier, cmon man. Don’t do my guy like that JQ is absolute OG, all about building community & playing the game, improving day by day. Not strings attached outside a fun chat. If you think about skill from the idea of having a particular ability rather than the ability to do something well, Siglemic is S tier. Due to his pioneering of the Mario64 speedrunning, he created a set of skills no one else had at the time. However if you are looking at skill strictly as the ability to do something well, then Sig is definitely B by today's standards, but that puts most prolific runners that you scored in S at A. Which I hate to say this, but it puts you and Puncay and Simply in A. And if we are only considering a current level of skill, I would categorize personally like this: SS: has the ability currently to get WR in multiple categories S: has a chance to get a WR in one category and can give a competitive (top 5) performance in more than one category A: has a chance to get a record in a category, has at least one other category where there is a respectable time. B: has no chance currently of attaining a WR, but either has held WR in a category or is currently in top 15 C: has no chance for WR currently, but has either contributed a strat or is in the current top 30 of one category D: Current top 75, maybe a notable achievement F: Top 120, no notable acheivements

Yeah I think making the list purely off of current ability or ability relative to current standards is a bit of a let-down compared to how interesting the list could have been. If I wanted to know who the best players are currently I'd just look at the rankings in each category on the speedrun site. Rankings here really should have been based more heavily on peak performance relative to other runners at the time, things like "how far ahead of everyone else were they at their peak", "how long did they hold records at their peak", "how many categories did they run at a competitive level at their peak", "how much influence did they have on the community/how much did they inspire future runners", "how many new strategies or techniques did they pioneer". Could also have things like "how do their skills hold up today/longevity of competition" factor in for sure, but that shouldn't have been the only metric imo. Nothing wrong with the way it's done here, to be clear, people can make tier lists any way they want. Just might have been a more interesting discussion if more things were factored in.

I mean let's be honest, if we're talking about current skill then maybe cheese isn't SS tier.... but if we're talking about overall greatness and influence on popularizing speedrunning of the game, you're easily the top of SS tier. Also, I feel like cheese sells his potential ceiling short. I'm not totally sure if this is the case, but it seems like his focus on content creation probably keeps him from continuing to improve at the rate he used to. But if he just stopped doing content and grinded, I think he could absolutely get back to WRs and possibly break another minute barrier.

Forgot kryptic, hokorobi, terji, dezanig, ikori, darkdog, and manxmud. Something unmentioned about slip is he reinvigorated 16 star and kept it alive when dowsky left for Minecraft and probably was a bit of inspiration and competition for people like Suigi and weegee. If slip wasn’t consistently pushing 16 star we might not have what we have today. My opinion. Dowsky also got 0 star and 1 star WR in the same day once. That’s why we call him brosky and suggest pressing a button really fast to get gud

I feel like based off skill, Sig is placed correctly, but based off influence on the community he is way too low. Parsee since this tier list has had the wr in 70 (before Suigi took it) and a 1:37 in 120 as well as top times in 0 and 1 star. highly underrated and overlooked runner imo. also, kinda funny you talk about jq when talking about Armada, they both started around the same time and talk about using eachother for motivation and such if im not mistaken

I guess the new generation would be infairly ranked highly due to all the tech, but Sig would be S cuz he kept pushing times forwards during his era. Let's be honest: Jaquarium, LunarJump and Squeex are S or A tier because what they lack in skill, they make up for it by being hilarious, intentionally or not. Also, the subtitles said Benji is an "a*** tear gamer" at some point and that made me laugh

Theres a person whos been doing only 1 category and, best hes ever been is top 5 wow, and 17 yr old suigi doing it for like 3 somewhat years and is WR in 4/5, wow suig like a computer basically or a god, i hope atleast person who has only done 1 category is atleast having fun, i personality like to exsplore all sorts of categories.
