Idk if any hispanics have told Julien this yet but these are super popular with Hispanics and are known as Spiro Papas! Translating to spiral potatoes! They are super thin and crispy and i usually put hot sauce, mayo, lime juice, and salt on mine but you could add any other condiments your heart desires!!

If you ever have a desire to try it again, slice it a lot thinner so it can get nice and crispy and half way through cooking, take it out and stretch it out more and reseason. Once it’s softening up it’s a lot easier to stretch and get seasoning on the insides.

Julen there are little gadgets to tornado the potatoes, which makes the slices quite thin. Then it's dipped into batter and fried + extra spices hence it's usually quite crispy. I think homemade ones seem hard to recreate the ones sold in shops

i feel like i think of tornado potatoes as fun summer market/fair foods because it's true that they're kind of involved and strange to eat for just a regular thursday night at home haha edit: also, the places i've had it (at said markets and fairs) they've used a spiraling tool to make the spirals thinner, they pull them apart more so that the seasoning gets everywhere, they are cooked in a fryer so the texture is closer to fries with a crispy outside and soft/fluffy interior, and then they are served similarly to street corn still on the skewer with a napkin or 4 haha

I feel like tornado potatoes are more of a street food. I’ve had it in Taiwan from a stand and in a Korean restaurant in the US. They definitely use a special tool to make it real thin. Super fun to eat while walking around though

For sure! Where I live you can buy them at amusement parks. Indeed using a tool to make them super thin, and then they get deep fried and coated with spices. Bag of chips on a stick, one of my favs✨
