Omg! This was well worth staying up till midnight, procrastinating falling asleep. I love these videos...they remind me of all the crazy inventions I plan, but never have the time to make. Hmmm... perfect timing actually. I have a bunch of cream I got on sale this week. I did make one small batch with a jar yesterday, but I might have to give this a shot!
@acdcacres2 жыл бұрын
Well, I tried. It made instant whipped cream in about 2 seconds of shake time, and I totally recommend it for the enjoyment of that! 🤣 I snapped two blades trying to keep it going longer, and since I didn't have any more blades, I gave up and ate whipped cream instead. 😋
@hdezoo2 жыл бұрын
FYI, if you set the cream sit out just until it’s nearly warm, it will turn to butter almost instantly when you shake it. Most of the shaking when the cream is cold is basically a friction heater for the cream to get it warm enough for the butter to separate from the shaking.

That was great, Anne, it's never silly or ridiculous to save time and the standing around for hours in one spot, and that butter sure did look delicious, I could picture slathering, that's right, I said slathering butter over a big chunk of homemade bread, YUM!

I grew up on a farm that had eight dairy cows. We milked them twice a day, ran the milk through a cream separator, sold the cream to be made into butter and then fed the skim milk to the calves and to the people in the house. Every so often my mom would keep back several quarts of cream which would be put into a one gallon churn (with a crank on it) and my brothers and I would spend a saturday making butter. It was a lot of fun--partly because it gave us something to do on a rainy day--but mostly because we knew that a huge batch of cinnamon buns would be baked the following week--and nothing was ever as good as Mom's cinnamon buns made with freshly churned farm butter. I loved watching other ways to church butter--obviously the friends who were visiting you that week come up with some rather creative ideas at times (I won't call them crazy, because it's only crazy if it doesn't work--and this one did). Thanks for giving me a good chuckle and for giving new meaning to the phrase "I make do with what I've got." I loved it.

Regarding homogenized milk, and also IIRC sheep's milk, there's a problem due to how small the fat droplets are & how the electric field between fat & water (similar to the hair/polymer electric field you can use to charge up balloons & stick them to the ceiling, and the air/water field that keeps clouds from coalescing but can cause lightning once they do). This is also why lactofermentation can help: acid helps interrupt colloidal dispersion & works with the agitation. Long story short: If you happen to have an electroplating rig, it might be fun to try making butter via electrophoresis. You definitely want to come up with food-safe electrodes for that: graphite and titanium are great, mild steel would probably be fine but might give an off flavor if you get the settings wrong and start etching the metal.

I saw a homesteader the other day who used her reciprocal saw to sift her freshly ground flour she wanted to use for cookies (she wanted closer to a white flour for the cookies.) 15 seconds was all it took her with the saw attached to the sifter. By hand it took her 45 minutes (which was why she opted to try the saw.) Who knew a reciprocal saw was such an all-around kitchen tool?!
I buy butter from the store..... ....but I think I'm going to cut slices differently now. One idea feeds another. 😁

Um, um, still trying to figure if it's 'sposed to be an April Fools video or just a small peak into that other side of Anne's brain when it goes off kilter and comes up with crazy ideas, just like happens to a lot of us. Either way, if it's 'sposed to be a Fools joke, didn't quite work since, well, it worked - I like it, made me laugh, which brightened up the morning a little and taught me something (didn't realise that's what butter milk was/came from). All you need to do now is fabricate a more solid/rigid blade adapter, thingy and you'll be good to go. As to if more of these? Yes please. Genuine, off the cuff, slightly wacky, fun ideas that come to you, no big thinking, scripting, just to make a video to get views, likes etc. 100%
