I recently had the opportunity to work on a horror game in Unity, and I decided to take on the challenge of creating a ghost A.I for the game.
The first step was to decide on the behavior and characteristics of the ghost. I wanted it to be unpredictable and constantly moving, but also able to surprise the player by suddenly appearing or disappearing. I also wanted it to be able to navigate through the game environment and avoid obstacles.
To achieve this, I used a combination of NavMesh agents and animation blending. NavMesh agents allowed me to easily set up a pathfinding system for the ghost, while animation blending allowed me to smoothly transition between different animations, such as walking and hovering.
I also implemented a "RendomLoc" system, which allowed the ghost to randomly choose a location in the game environment and "RendomLoc" it for a set period of time before moving on to the next location. This added an element of unpredictability to the ghost's behavior, as the player never knew where it would appear next.
In addition to its basic movement and navigation, I also added a number of other features to the ghost A.I. For example, I implemented a "fear" system, which caused the ghost to become more aggressive and move faster when the player was nearby. I also added a "scare" feature, which caused the ghost to suddenly appear in front of the player, accompanied by a frightening sound effect.
Overall, I was very happy with the way the ghost A.I turned out. It added a lot of tension and atmosphere to the game, and I received positive feedback from playtesters. Working on this project was a great learning experience for me, and I hope to have the opportunity to create more A.I characters in the future.
