As somebody who recently got back into the game and mostly only plays Path of Champions at the moment, it's really funny to see how massive the difference is between how good these are in traditional LoR vs PoC. Aatrox's deck in Path adds a phage item to the darkin staff, making it an insane +2/+2 that refills spell mana and gives impact for just 1 mana, but in regular games it's absolute trash haha

I have to disgree with The Black Flame take. 2/5 stars is actually on-point with how its decks work right now. It‘s similar to Spirits Unleashed so why did one get 2/5 and the other got 4/5?

I would like to point out, for those of us who play Path of Champions, the Darkin Staff is a cornerstone of the Aatrox deck, as soon as it gets +2/+2 added to it when Aatrox reaches a decently high level. Playing the 1 cost Steadfast Elkin into Darkin Staff on turn 1 makes for a great start to the game!

Hum, gp/sej is playing spirits unleashed an its pretty strong right now, i used it to climb from gold to masters this season. I don't think freljord is so weak as people make it appear to be

He said that this video was recorded 2 weeks ago, before this new version of plunder existed. Said so, Frelj only has FTR and gp sejuani. FTR is hard carried by the spell FTR itself. If the spell was nerfed in any way the deck would simply stop existing. Gp sejuani is basically a bilgewater deck: out of 40 cards only 9 are from frelj. Any other archetype from the region is hot garbage. Anivia is below 40% winrate, ornn doesn't even have a playable deck, ashe is okish but still worse than 30 other decks, Braum is bad and his deck with vlad is carried by noxus units, lissandra is actually a good card but not relevant now, gnar is useless, trundle is good but his original archetype is trash, tryndamere is basically a minion with overwhelm. There are very specific good cards in freljord, like ftr, trundle, lissandra, spirit unleashed...but the very core of the region is plain bad. The so called staples are unplayable for the most part. When you play frelj you don't want to actually play frelj, you want 1 or 2 specific cards from it and pair them with a good region lmao

The sad part is that it seems that riot itself decided that frelj is the bad and boring region. The region is filled with vanilla units that do absolutely nothing except being chonky and they print cards like the new empowered one: 6/6 empowered 8 I have regen. Wow. Such a cool and useful effect. I love to play a 6 mana do nothing body. My only hope left for the region is brand. It's very unlikely that he will be a chonky boy/hand buff archetype... This assuming that he won't be a runeterra champ Lol

@@Johnnyyaguchi-w7y i think you are diminishing other cool tools that freljord has, like it that stares, buried in ice and she who wanders. Their boardclear spells like avalanche and frostbites are farily good in this meta against multiple atacks and aatrox in general. I actually have a lot of fun in freljord and i actually don't envision this region beeing something other than it is now. It has a clear and unchanged identity: it's the overall boardclear region, has the better health buffs, big late game bombs and at some degree meaningfull disruption. Every meta when I get to use a freljord decn I can climb really well with them. Sure, some things of freljord are less effective like anivia or udyr, although i think the reason isn't just a matter of "ice region is bad" is just because their design doesn't really fit most metas, but when they do... well, i think you saw what happened on zombienivia meta. The thing is: you play freljord for their support cards... so? What's the problem? On many aspects, freljord IS a suport region and it's totally fine. It has win conditions, just not the sort everyone likes nor the ones which are inherently good every patch, that's not a region problem, is just a matter of logic that the region speciallized in board clears and health buffs doesn't exactly do well against these combo/cheese decks, but they have the tools to get their way up there. My main point is that freljord isn't NEARLY CLOSE to what bilgewater was for exemple before make it rain reverts and the other buffs. It definetly has it's strenght

This one, moreso that most past videos, really illustrates how being a Hearthstone player doesn't really equip you at all to evaluate LoR cards. The games really only have cosmetic similarities; the ENORMOUS differences in tempo (since opponents can react to your plays immediately) make them play completely differently, so what is worthless in one game can be game-breaking in another (or vice versa).

Yeah to be fair this was recorded ~2 weeks ago when plunder wasn't really seen anywhere. Like I said in the video it's a really good card but just didn't find a deck at the time which made me give it 2 stars. If Freljord had more "generally good" cards/playstyles we'd see spirits unleashed A LOT more

19:28 that's literally a lie. "Everywhere" in Hearthstone is written as "(Wherever they are)" and works exactly the same that in Runeterra. Rarran is talking of cards that say explicitly "In your hand, deck, and battlefield" text that meets the distinguishable characteristic of not saying "Everywhere" anywhere.

While you acknowledge how good SPirit Unleashed is, you still only gave it 2 stars? It's litterally the only reason why Freljord sees ANY play at all, just for this single card and there are a ton of tier 2 decks running this. After Aatrox/vayne nerfs, this card will become a tier 1 deck printer. Also, Joraal is the single best non-champion Darkin in the game. All other darkins are mostly the weapon but Joraal is game winning against a lot of spell heavy decks. As an Ionia lover, I really hate it when opponent plays Joraal. So much so that I do everything I can to keep a minion with Aegis alive to prevent them from playing Joraal. It's insane how strong Joraal into open attacks can be. Once the opponent World endered Joraal into Styraatu and I was so damn happy, he basically handed me the game doing so.

Xolanni is what people in the MTG community call a "Timmy Card": It's big and cool with a really powerful effect that's awesome when it goes off, but isn't consistent or even good half the time. Despite Timmy Cards usually being neither consistent or good, they tend to see a lot of play anyways just because they look/feel so awesome when they go off.
