I made my own MATCHA powder in Uji! 🍃

It's been a dream of mine to visit the birthplace of matcha, Uji, Kyoto! Being able to grind my own matcha and learn more in-depth about the process of creating matcha has definitely been eye opening and grew my appreciation for the tea even more so. A lot of shops were closed on the weekends and the queues for the temples were pretty long so I wasn't able to see some of their major sightseeing features. Instead I took the time to go on a little nature hike and explore outside of Uji, even if it was just a few kilometers away. Definitely would recommend the looped pathway if you're a fan of hiking.
With the recent boom in matcha craze, I was taken aback by how touristy Uji felt when I got here. A lot of tea shops were refusing to sell matcha or were out of stock. While I'm happy there's so many matcha enthusiasts out there, I was also pretty bummed I wasn't able to get my hands on some of my fav matchas 😭
Hoping to come back again the next time I'm in Kyoto! There's so much to eat here, I want to try doing a food hop next time :)
