Worse part about Sophia is that she's a unit you want to train because of her low starting level, but her growths aren't even high-ish compared to a unit like Nino. She's an awful unit in a game that's pretty rude, also not being able to one round poison lance fliers or having 73% hit on a fe7 pirate is god awful these units are made to be cannon fodder. But she's cute so whatever

I actually think Sophia is worse in FE7 than 6. 1) Growths and bases generally quite a bit higher in FE7 than 6, making Sophia's bad stats stand out as even worse 2) Weight of the flux tome: if she was in FE7, there's no way she'd only have 3 con, losing FIVE speed at base. The way to fix Sophia is to have her join at chapter 1, where her bases are acceptable.

@@weepingdalek2568 just to clarify, I do mean start of FE6, where her 2 range chip will allow her to grow if you so wish and she'd be comparible to Wolt and Bors. She will at least have a niche for two chapters until you get Lugh, who will join better unless you really went ham on leveling Sophia and got lucky with speed level ups.

The real nail in the coffin for Sophia is that she's just worse than other Shamans. She's behind on levels and her growth rates are a little worse or on par with most Shamans, (aside from Res, which who cares). So you have to put in all this effort to get her to where other Shamans start at and then she's still worse than them in most cases. Low Con is the cherry on top - she can't even use Flux without being slowed down. At 5:41 we see that level 10 Sophia, after multiple stat boosters, is worse than level 8 Canas in everything except Mag, (she wins by 1 point), and Res (she wins by 6 points but who cares). You probably fix her by giving her dynamite growths to make her a fun unit to raise up and dominate with.

There is this one person (not saying the name, not everyone like it :S), who did a balance patch of every GBA FE game (not sure for FE8, but it did for the first 2), and I was surprised to hear at the start that not a single growth rate was going to be touched, for Sophia, it made it very simple: It just doubled her base stats, now that´s a way to make her very good (even though it added Hard Mode bonuses to Raigh, making him absurd too).

Hmmm... One of the biggest boons for magic users in FE6 is the low weight of their tomes, which FE7 increased by a lot. Her low starting Con of 3 screws her over in FE7 even harsher, than in FE6. -5Speed because of the a single 8Wt. Flux tome is not a good standard weapon for her, that she is obviously not designed for. Ideally one would have to double her starting thiccness to 6Con, to make a bad unit at least somewhat worth the effort. ...Even 5Con instead of 3Con would be a massive performance difference. Sophia would be a worse Knoll in Sacred Stones, If she just replaces him at Lv.1 and she will suffer from the same problems in FE8 as shown in this video.

I wonder if there's ever been an interview or AMA with any of the creators of FE6 where they explain their thought process behind Sophia. It's like they tried to capture the perfect crystal essence of what makes for a terrible unit. Hard to hate her personality since "what's the point in hating something that doesn't exist?" but it really is kind of incredible how little she offers. Game development is an amazing and chaotic thing. It's difficult to know if there was some set purpose behind it, or if they ran out of time or interest to finish the character.

From what i remember FE6 got very little of beta testing and some things got changed at literally last moment. Final Boss of FE6 was supossed to be entire different kind of beast but got changed very late in the game development. I suppose Sophia is probably also a victim of those last moment changes but this is only my theory.

honestly i don't think there's much to sophia's design the devs probably just wanted to add a civilian-esque escort mission to make the guiding ring harder to get and it probably felt too unfair having to drag an allied unit around, so they made her playable to give the player more control instead

Great video! Technical stuff that I think was lower in quality was usual was sound balance. It was hard at multiple times to hear your voice over the volume of the music at points. This includes the beginning, such as around 0:30 to 0:40, 16:00 and 17:00. There, your voice is louder, or the music overpowers your voice. Your tone of voice has a good quality, and I think raising the volume of it using editor internally(since changing mics can be pretty expensive) would really be helpful. Furthermore, we can tell the music is lowered at 12:28 in order to hear you and even then, the volume of the voice is a bit low. Additionally, game audio was conflicting with music, such as with 14:00. At the same time, please just do w/e is comfortable with you as these just suggestions, as editing these is additional time (and can be really lengthy with longer videos on top of gimmick runs). Those were things I found were lower in quality. Positives I could find included the run itself. Very solid run, and obviously, clips displayed lined up with your voice and script. There were lots of showcases that added more to context to your lines, such as Sophia's atrocious speed, being unable to double the incredibly weaker enemies of FE7(compared to FE6), a game that's pretty enemy phase oriented given the mass of units it throws at you. The amount of effort was very clear in trying to make Sophia is strong as possible, and I think you did an honest job trying to make her work. Again, just do w/e is comfortable with you! Good luck on future videos and I hope this helps moving forward!

Its not even that her bases are bad. That alone would be a problem but good enough growths could patch it just fine and make her quite viable. (Think Nino if she came earlier in the game) Its that she comes in with the base stats and level of a chapter 1 unit midway through the game when you already are promoting your guys, and her growths while not terrible (save for def, luck, and speed) are not high enough to make up the difference, save for HP, Mag, and Res. Her skill and especially speed in particular suffer here because she will just be accurate enough to land hits now and again, but with her speed the way it is coupled with her unsalvageable constitution, she is resigned to avoiding being doubled at best, and even that is a huge gamble, and dodging attacks is simply not something she can ever reliably considering doing. FE7 serves to punish her even further due to the dark tomes she already has trouble carrying becoming even heavier, making it so the most basic Flux tome is simply too much for her to handle.

Regardless of popularity... She's a cute half dragon girl who does magic. An alt was inevitable. Also one of her alts is a grail unit, which are typically less popular characters who are still in the theme, with her only premium version, Bridal Sophia, colorsharing with the demote of the banner whose base version happens to be a common F2P merge project even to this day, and as such has a following (on top of being the only adult woman in the entire banner) ; Sophia was likely more intended as kind of a little surprise along the way for Bridal Cecilia merges than the opposite. Like "thanks for pulling, here have a bulky mage flier (who'll get powercrept by Camilla in a few months), now return to summoning Cecilia". The Bridal banner was also 7 months after the Halloween banner, so since the theme was Roy and his harem and they had Sophia's seiyu around, she was a convenient choice for the banner. Cipher, it's quite simple, nearly everyone in the series is represented there. Even the twins from Warriors. As for FE7, since she was present in FE6 and is a half dragon, that means she'd look identical 20 years in the past, and so a Sophia cameo was an easy choice for an extra nod to FE6.

FEH certainly gave her a new lease on life in its earlier years though. Being a high def/res mage with respectable atk meant she became the primary Triangle Adept/Rauorraven user that could shrug off any archer and green unit in the game effortlessly, while holding fairly well to most reds as well. She was even a hard counter to one half of the game's power duo, Brave Lyn. Now she's just unimpressive at best but we're talking about a launch unit in a mobile gacha game that's six years old, so powercreep would hit her. And it hit everybody with very few launch units being even remotely viable. She served quite well in FEH for her time in the limelight.

A couple of years ago, I've been constantly arguing with a guy named Jim the Reaper. The arguments are scattered in KZbin comment sections but from what I can remember, he's trying to justify Sophia being good because she's good at Endgame (?). The guy went so far as trying to argue Sophia is better than Niime because of so-called "availability". To this day, I still do not understand whats the deal behind this Jim person.

I do not know why PoR Naesala, Tibarn and Giffca are in there, they're super strong Laguz and they do not transform back. Also Melady intrigues me as she is a really powerful flier in FE6, that you get right before the Nabata Desert. And Mercedes, well I assume she is a weaker unit compared to her peers? I lack any reasons to defend or bash her.

@@supermariogamer5294 The Laguz royals in PoR Hard Mode only come in after the first phase of Ashnard, so if you're doing Wrath/Resolve Ike stuff, it's very possible for the second phase (and by extension the game) to be over before they can physically reach an enemy, meaning while they are really strong on paper their net contribution to the run is often a flat zero and chances are that one time Rolf did chip damage in his join chapter means he was a more valuable unit for that run, putting them on the bottom of the bargain bin is not only surprisingly accurate but also very funny. The FE3H Maddening meta revolves around using broken player and enemy phase tools to kill everything on Player Phase (Swift Strikes, Hunter's Volley, Vengeance, possibly warpskipping the map entirely) and not taking hits on Enemy Phase (Vantage/Wrath, Impregnable Wall, all the threats already being dead after Player Phase, or the map being over bc you warpskipped it) You rarely need healing for either of those, so a unit like Mercedes that just goes all in on healing is out of a job and only helps with some support stuff that other units have more tools for. And to add insult to injury, Mercedes' Fortify, the one thing she has that really stands out as something unique to her, is actively messing with two of the strongest cheese setups in Vantage/Wrath and Vengeance. Melady I'm guessing is either a joke or a reference to some sort of mod, challenge run, or other appearance outside of FE6 (I don't recognize the icon of her "tier" either) because no one would call vanilla FE6 Melady this bad unironically unless you're literally doing your tier list in reverse order. Also Clive has no place on that iceberg. Someone had to say it. Clive is leagues above every unit in the top layer.
