I have been wanting to make this adorable vintage Vogue pattern for the longest time. It was a bit tricking in parts but I finally got there.

Thank you for the tutorial, I am making this dress now and reading a pattern is difficult to me. I have been sewing for years but I wing almost everything. I’ve ever took a couple of liberties with this dress. The darts on the sleeves made it too boxy. Thank you!!!!!!

I just bought this pattern, but I have not used Vogue patterns before. Do you think it is doable even if I am not the most skilled seamstress?

The dress pattern was designed in 1939 during the Depression, so it's very lean. You will have to do alterations to make it fit, so you do need a bit of knowledge to do that. The neckline and collar are also a bit tricky. And putting in a side zip can be a challenge. But it is a lovely dress. Make sure you take your measurements and read the chart on the pattern pieces to work out the size you need to get the best fit. And just take it one step at a time. Best of luck!

Glad Ive found you, your jackets are outstanding. The dress style looks so good, Ive ordered the patterm. True explanations! Id better measure. I wonder if the fabric finish today is stiffer than 1940s... I was wondering which fabric you will use next? Ive ordered a crepe but hope thats not too floppy. I think fabric was only 36" wide in those days which is probably why there are four panels, thinking about it? Anyway, such praise to you, Thank You. Linda UK

Thank you! 🧵 Ah, thin panels. Yep, that makes sense. I think my next version will be in a cream or light blue cotton then maybe a beige crepe. Crepe was quite popular then (but I mostly wear cotton).

Sizing on patterns have absolutely NOTHING to do with store bought sizes!!! They NEVER have! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years. It’s always been that way. You have to go by measurements and finished size measurements.
