triple thick glaze is meant to be used with acrylic paint. using it with a water-based paint, like gouache (which is kinda like if watercolor and acrylic had a baby) can result in smearing like what happened here. I'm not sure what would be a good glaze/top coat for gouache since it isn't really meant for wearables since it's water-based, but maybe a spray product would work better?
@melbarama11 ай бұрын
There are actually 2 kinds of gouache: traditional gouache that stays water soluble after drying like watercolor, and acrylic gouache which behaves like gouache but is permanent when it dries. Acrylic gouache would probably work best for this project. With the regular gouache you could probably use some sort of a spray sealant and then the triple thick glaze over that.
@FrostingyFrog11 ай бұрын
@@melbarama oh, I didn’t know about acrylic gouache! That would probably work really well for wearables and maybe even keycaps!
@imathumb11 ай бұрын
wait acrylic isnt water-based?! i thought it was and then oil wasnt! WHAT
@FrostingyFrog11 ай бұрын
@@imathumb acrylic is water-based (my bad), but once dried it can’t be reactivated by water like watercolor and gouache can.
@melbarama11 ай бұрын
@@imathumb you're totally right they're both water based, it's the binders that are different. Edited my previous comment to be more clear.

I strongly recomend strengthening your polymer clay charms by droping them in a cup of ice water immediately after baking. Another KZbinr recommended it and it really does work! You can also coat in resin to strengthen and have a gloss finish.

Guache paint is like `concentrated watercolor` that`s the reason `triple effect` smudges the design, I can recommend using gesso as a base on the polymerclay first+ use acrylic paint on gesso (after dried completely)+ glaze with `triple effect` should work perfectly! I make my earrings that way and I`m happy with the method. I can feel your passion for the project so I wanted to share! Also, I watch/listen your videos as I paint, so inspiring, thank you for doing this!!!
@alaracuvalcoglu64765 ай бұрын
or spray varnish can be used on guache too!!! (without brush touching onto the design)

If you put a dish towel on your table and then place your beads on it, they’re less likely to roll away. There are mats you can purchase for jewelry making that keep the beads from rolling around. I’ve found using two needle nose pliers (like the one you used) it makes it easier to open and close the jump rings. I love how everything turned out. Your videos are entertaining as well as informative. I came for the sewing, but like all the other stuff you’re sharing.

@designsdoovers11 ай бұрын
Gouache is either water based or acrylic. You need the acrylic version to put the top glaze over and it won’t smear. It also helps to have 2 pair of pliers. You did great. 👍🏼

i am a veteran polymer clay charm maker and the glaze works better if you hang the eyepin on something like a paperclip and dip it in the glaze. shake off the excess or blot it if theres a drip at the bottom but it should leave a pretty uniform finish with no smudging :3
@PlentyofNiu11 ай бұрын

New here, I love your energy and enthusiasm. I have to say I'm biased towards the Jack charm since I'm a 2 time pug owner, but my favorite is the fried egg. Just a quick tip: get a second pair of needle nose pliers. Use one to hold the jump ring while the second opens up the jump ring.

@emilyfrederick33111 ай бұрын
Jenna, if you get a pair of forceps they’re much easier to attach the jump rings with! They’re pointed nose pliers that clamp shut, there’s usually a few clicks of tightness so you can adjust them, and then you can hold the ring in your non-dominant hand and just put the charm and chain on it and clamp it shut with a second set of pliers super super easily. Sorry if I’m over explaining it, it just hurt to see you struggle with it when there’s an awesome tool that makes it sooo much easier 😭 I absolutely loved the video by the way!!

Awesome fun, you guys. Both doggie charms win. 😅 I love the made charm necklace, it is so original. Maybe next tine, if there is a next time, you can pour resin over the charms. 😂 I laughed. The oven tray didn't fit so you made a plan. Shove it in at an angle. 😂👍👍💪 I got stuck in a lift in a hospital. I was in the car park in the basement of the hospital, going up to visit my grandfather. This hospital is so huge it is 1km long. The Main passage is called Hospital Street. No jokes. I had claustrophobia stuck in the lift which was no fun at all. Glad you guys were rescued. 🎉 Well done, all good fun. 🎊 🐶🦊🐕🍰🍒🍓🍳🍴🦓🐠🦢🌺
