Hi! I don’t know if you’ve said this already in your videos but where did you learn to cook? Aside from doing it with family, did you take classes? Your recipes seem to use a lot of technical rather than practical so I was curious! I hope you can talk about it in your next video🥹

I tried baking for my family, but I end up being the only one who eats it cus everyone avoids sugar and nobody in my family really eats much bread either. So I’ve tried other ways like making paintings or crocheting things.

That’s why the most crucial step is checking in with their food preferences first, as she mentioned! It’s a waste if you don’t know things like allergies, whether or not they’re vegan or avoid things like sugar or caffeine, or even if they just don’t like certain flavors. You can totally still bake for people who avoid sugar, it just takes a little extra thought.

Tell me about it. I live in a house with 3 autistics, my cousin who has gone threw chemo and radiation her whole life because she was born with leukemia, and my picky dad. So when I cook something I always ask everyone if they like something and if they say no then I just cook it for myself. I do however cook dinner every night but we eat pretty much the same things all the time because they're all so picky. I'm the only one in the house who eats pretty much anything and they call me weird because of it ahaha

The sad thing though is that even this will cost a bit of money. Nothing compared to other things or buying premade cookies, but it will still be costly. I love to cook, but I've been refraining myself from making some of the more complex flavored recepies since the ingredients can be rather expensive. Take meat. I try to avoid meat as much as possible inless it's on sale. Or a good example would be condensed milk as seen here. A tiny can of about 8-6 oz can go for about $5. I try to limit the price of my meals to $5 ($5 x 2.5 (meals/day) x ~30 (days/month) = ~ $375 meals/month (also fun that the units worked out)) so it really hinders the fun I can have if I can't buy certain ingredients. Hell I recall like a year ago jello packets went for $1. Now they're like $3.

My mom always said, "the way to a person's heart, is through their stomach." I'm a born and raised local girl from Kalihi which is a town on Oahu. We have so many hanai (adopted/taken in) families, and we were always broke. As far back as I can remember, my mom and I would bake platters of goodies because that's all we could afford. There were too many Aunties and Uncles and cousins to buy individual gifts for. So, feeding people became our thing, and continues to be, 30 years later. And mama was right- we got a lot of love and gratitude by feeding them :) definitely one of our love languages ❤️

I bake too because of the same reason... Doesn't take up space and they're crowd pleasers. I'm also a crafter so in the past I've painted ornate winter/Christmas scenes and the last few years, I've etched snowflake designs into glass. i even learned to cut my own glass. This way it comes out for a little while and then goes away. For friends with new Borns, I even take a pic of their kids and glue it to an ornament for a baby's Christmas.

Lol $20 is enough to make dozens chocolate chips cookies while Most people spend over $20 per person for a gift. That’s a minimum of $300 right there. Price it for your area. I’ve started making food for people as well because I need all my money for college. When one of my friends in college was leaving about a month before her birthday, I knew her favourite snack was apple fritters and her favourite dessert was red velvet cake. So I spent a little bit of money on ingredients and make her a red velvet cake (boxed mix) and apple fritters (homemade, no box). It was my first time making apple fritters and my dad, who had come to say goodbye since he met her a few times and we had had board game nights together, loved them so much he requested I make them for the next family holiday, which I did. I ended up making a ton so she could take them home with her to share with her family or just for herself. Now I’m currently working on a scrapbook of me, my roommate, and the same friends adventures together which was supposed to be another birthday gift, then turned into a Christmas gift cause I hadn’t finished, and now is a very late Christmas gift cause I’m still not finished :,)

I really hate surprises with passion, gift included. Cos people tend to give you something that they think you need, when as the matter of fact, its really what they want or what they need. And no matter what happened i cannot throw or give something that was given to me. Even though i hate gift i still value them because people give that to me. So id rather get pastries and bake goods as a gift. A gift made of love and effort and the thought that u remember me. Food is always good.

Thank you for the recipes! I make cookies every year for Christmas! 😊 I’ve never been a fan of the whole gift thing, unless you need an excuse to buy someone something, then that happens to work out lol

For Christmas this yr. I gave homemade Vanilla Extract and vanilla sugar made from the left over beans. It took me two yrs to make it but it was so worth it.

i did 10 cookie boxes with 9 types of cookies each for my loved ones this holiday season. i had to buy dedicated wide and low tupperwares to store the cookies in the fridge until it was time to assemble the boxes as well as the boxes themselves and pretty paper to line them with, not to mention the price of butter and other expensive ingredients like chocolate and nuts. i baked for 4 days making 2-3 giant batches every day, baking before and after work and on lunch breaks - thankfully i work from home and we had a lull before the holidays and do i was able to take this time; spent an additional couple hours making separators for the boxes out of cardboard and spent an hour assembling the boxes in the late evening of day 4. not everyone i meant to give these to could manage to pick them up/meet up with me in the time frame before the cookies would go completely stale and/or off, so i gave several people two boxes so that they wouldn’t go to waste. it was an immense operation, i’m glad i did it, i loved doing it and glad i challenged myself like that and proved my baking skills to myself in this way, but it most definitely was NOT cheap or time efficient in the slightest. and unless you have a huge gathering everyone will be guaranteed to attend, it’s not a reliable or convenient gift since they’re perishable.

We have no expectations to give or receive gifts. Gifts are just a bonus.

I used to do this in college and continued the tradition after I graduated. I think it is much more personal than something bought from a store.

I always bake things/ make things for gift giving! My family, friends, and I prefer time over money spent. For Xmas I made everyone those hot cocoa bombs and and a mug cake kit with dollar tree mugs I painted. It was fun and I also agree that after it’s eaten it doesn’t take up morenspace

Food is my love language. I gift people baked goods and most of the time theyre very happy about it. My sister had these pastries that were sold at Lidl and they were her favourite but they discontinued them and she was so sad about that, so i baked those same pastries at home on her birthday and she was so happy ❤
