It would be sweet if you guys did some towing test with older generation trucks. Tow with the 7.3 power stroke, 6.0 power stroke, etc just to see how they stack up agains newer trucks; run through different features etc

I think this is an awesome idea as well. But you know what I was thinking. Given their relationship with this manufactures and the viewer count, they might have been asked not to do so. Why? What if a 7.3, 6.0, old 5.9 Cummins did just fine up the IKE. It might deter some from buying new by just saying. Shoot I could live with that and spend 70k less. This is just my thoughts on why. I’ve seen several people ask for this over the years and it’s never happened.

That's not a normal temperature for that elevation. Most houses above 8000' don't have AC for that reason.

some light rear end work and a weight distribution hitch and the rear won't sag like that.. I tow my enclosed trailer and race car all over the country with a gen 2.. tows flat at 75-85 mph all day.

What is quite often overlooked is that the thinner air at higher altitudes also greatly decreases the drag on the vehicle, which helps mitigate the power loss and brings back some lost fuel, efficiency, and acceleration.

Yes but sadly that lost air density also significantly limits the cooling package's ability to transfer heat. The performance hit isn't as large as it would seem, but it isn't a free ride for a truck that has to shed heat fighting aero, rolling resistance, and gravity. Only the areo gets better as altitude goes up.

@@adaycj "And real people are using trucks year round." Which is why you would want the test done in an extreme condition. My 2014 F150 Ecoboost with max tow will tow fine all winter long. But tow on a 90*+ day and it struggles. If you went by the test that TFL did way back in the day, a 2014 F150 can pull 11000 lbs up the ike in like 7:30 or something. But they also ran that test in the middle of the winter. No way could it do that in the summer. Basing a purchasing decision on a test run when its 28 degrees outside is a bad one.

@@Jay-me7gw If you are basing a purchase on TFL tests alone ... well that isn't a good idea at all. They are 99% entertainment. At least they actually drive these things rather than just use a media loaner and make a fluf piece out of it. Is your truck overheating? The SAE test hasn't changed since your truck was designed, not that the manufactures couldn't overbuild if they wanted. I can say I towed a pretty dang large travel trailer through many mountain passes this last summer. Granted my F150 isn't rated to tow 11,000# so I couldn't attempt that. It did tow at the rated capacity just fine.

Great video but that hitch was not adjusted right. You shouldn't be able to lift those arms on by hand without lifting the tongue of the trailer while hitched with the trailer tongue jack.

You are right - there needs to be more pressure there. We had to use the jack to lift the trailer up a bit in order to install the bar on the other side.

Andre, the linch pin goes under the spring bar bracket to keep the L pin from coming out, not on top.

Maybe it was just camera view, but it looked like you used too little assist from the load distribution. I tow with my short wheel base 2018 Raptor and use weight distribution to restore sag to about 1" lower than empty trailer state. Soft off road (jumping tuned) suspension needs extra help.

How about comparing the Ike test to the Davis Dam Test? Take a truck that you've tested on the Ike and take the exact same truck and trailer to the Davis Dam and do that test.

Did anyone catch the shift into 4wd or was that a shift out of 4wd during the downhill portion? If it was a shift into 4wd, that would add more drag for the brake application test. Also, $100k truck with no rear fender liners?

Aren't you supposed to have the truck jacked up a few inches when you install the distribution bars so that when raise the jack the weight is then distributed to all of the axles? Adding the distribution bars after the full weight of the trailer is already on the truck distributes nothing.

Winter tests don't match summer tests. Higher density of the air. Better burn, due to higher oxygen concentration. Obviously I have no clue what percentage that is, but for certain, I can feel a difference in my truck. The powerplant sounds much smoother.

hey andre, question for ya... with the truck squatting a bit and the trailer nose down, why did you guys stop using the andersen equalizer? i love mine, use it all the time to flatten out trailers and push some weight to the front axle of my truck.

I don’t recall them ever using an Andersen style WD hitch. It’s always been the style they used in this test with the tapered bars. What I would like to see them do is to jack up the trailer tongue after it’s hitched to the truck and then put the bars on. That way, the truck sags less when the jack is raised and the tongue lowered.

I have to jack my truck up almost 4 inches to hook up my camper. then when it sits down, everything is nice and level.

I believe both the Raptor and Raptor R use the standard 10R80 transmission with different tuning from the regular F-150s and not the 10R140 from the Super Duty.

No active is just noise. Louder doesn’t mean more performance. It just switches the valves in the muffler. It still utilizes the muffler either way.

@Rocky Rockwell no the way the muffler works is it has attenuated tubes of varying length and some perforated. They just alter the sound waves, vs when the valve is open it let's the sound and exhaust out through another path. Check out the 2018 gt active exhaust muffler. Theirs cutaway online. It's by no means restrictive. It just kills the sound waves.

The Raptor also ditched the high revving flat plane crank from the gt500 and went to the traditional cross plane. More suitable for a truck. The biggest difference between the two.

There are two 5.2 engines the Voodoo (NA flat plane) and the Predator (supercharged cross plane crank). Completely different engines.

Petition to add something to address the tow ratings for class. For example, if you were to test the Maverick hybrid at it's max 2000lbs, I expect it would do great... But the rating is so low it deserves a penalty of some sort.
