I had an epic idea for a farm island, so find a really small island that you can fill the entire island with farm plots, then, at the center of the island, place a bearing with a long stick / paddle on it that is the diameter of the island. Make it spin really fast so what happens is, the bots will spawn on the island, get knocked off by the paddle off of the island and your crops are safe! Maybe add 4 paddles so that they get instantly knocked off. Idk this just seems like a really good idea for this type of play. You can also turn your scrap wood into cardboard to get more blocks out of the existing wood you have, to save on blocks! And with the water bucket feature, I think you can stun bots by throwing water at them but I'm not sure how effective it is...

Make sure to place a seat connected to the button so you can sit safely and jump into the seat from outside of the blades if you somehow end up having to come back to the island while the blades are spinning. One major downside to this would be missing out on the bot drops.

These are some really good ideas. The cardboard one would be a bit tricky though, since a single hit from any bot could potentially collapse the entire bridge. Anyway, I hope ScrapMan sees this

Some tipps: - water is STUPIDLY easy to get and decently robust, using it as a meatshield around your farm is a good strategy! - get the recommended mods in the steam description of the gamemode! they make life soo much better! you can craft flying crafts with that! havent done so myself yet though... - actually, just check out fants mods in general, alot of them work great for survival!

Move your farm because the 2 timers mean that you planted 2 different crop fields at 2 different world chunks. It happened to KAN in his crash lander series. But in my opinion, having the farm divided like that means low-level raids but more bots. So yeah, I like your series. And I hope you will do a multiplayer survival based series.

Also if you can figure out where the split is, then you can plant 9 tier 1 crops on each division and no raids! But the better option in my opinion is to put a small farm on each island - plant as much as you want and no raids!

Having a split farm is better in most cases. You can farm more with less bots, but if you need bot parts (circuit boards, scrap metal, etc.) you can get more bots than single tiles if you plant more.

instead of using scrap wood for the bridges you could use the scrap wood to make cardboard (5 wood = 20 cardboard) and build 4times more bridges out of the same amount of material.

It may now actually be viable to throw water when fighting haybots. It's super easy and fast to "reload" the bucket, and you can easily have more water on you than you'd ever consume otherwise.

This is the best way to mine, and to chop down big trees in the beginning of survival. For the people who doesn't know what he means, it's like a 1×1 pillar up from the ground, a bearing on top, a few blocks out to the side and a drill at the end of it (90° to the blocks off the side, not continuously)

SCRAP: Fall damage for this mod has been capped at 90 MAX damage. Meaning falling at FULL health is 100% safe. So feel free to drop down from infinite height. Or you can chair-drop. If you lose the chair in the void, don't worry, it will respawn at spawn island.

To melee a tapebot, you need to run towards it, and whenever you hear it fire its tape, jump to the side. Or at least, that's what works for me. It's really difficult and requires a lot of practice, but it's effective in a pinch.

what i found worked best early on is to craft cardboard with the scrap wood as you get 20 blocks for 5 wood. which means you can travel way farther with the same amount of wood. and since you will be making lots and lots of wooden paths, its a huge saving. also pro tip, do not build or place things any closer than 3 blocks from the traders building or sucker-upper thing, i have lost items because i placed them and could not pick them up. also with as many oil, chemical and water jugs you can collect easily, i use them as guards around my crops. if they get destroyed, no biggy, i need the wood to make cardboard to progress, as for the drill, expect lag when a rock chunk explodes out of the ground, it disconnects the entire thing, not just one piece of it at a time. i made a small 5x5 platform with seat, button, controller level 5 and the drill. it has 4 legs that i can weld to a block on ground and place it where it aims at the rock, W to spin drill and #1 to extend piston. slow but effective early for mining. with raid sizes and spawns, if you can find a very small island and cover it in crops, there will be no room for bots to spawn and wont have raid issues with high tier crops. kind of cheaty, but also wise

Scrapman, once you have a drill,2 bearings, and some building blocks, you can mine any node. First, with the building blocks, build a vertical post. On top of the post, build an arm on a bearing out to one side so you can hit it into the node. Finally, slap a bearing and the drill so when you smack it, the drill hits the node. Last step smack until the node breaks.

I believe you can determine the direction a tree falls if you break it at the stump instead of on the lowest harvestable section. You are introducing a random variable as the lowest section seperates from the rest of the tree and the trunk simulatneously. As it starts to roll between those two objects, its anyones guess where the loose top section of the tree will fall. Break the stump first and the tree stays whole as it falls and falls more predictably. Great video, keep it up :)

An idea for the farm that just needs a level 3 controller, switch ,and 2 bearings. How you make it is you build a 3 x 3 piller, put the plots in a circle around the piller, at the top of that piller stack the bearings and make two arms come off those bearings, then put weights on the ends of those arms that come down. When it spins it kills the bots. It's a game changer

Absolutely love this map/series! Super interesting to follow. Once you get more metal you should prioritize chests so you can keep your inventory empty of important items just incase you hit one of those islands way below when jumping as it means losing everything for a very long time since you cannot go back

Build a frame large enough to enclose a rock node, with a beam sticking off from one side. Under the top of the frame, attach the piston, pushing down. To that, add a horizontal bearing, with an arm sticking a few blocks to the side. On the other end of that arm, add another bearing, with the drill facing downward. The bearings can be powered by a gas engine on a switch, and the piston be put on a button. You can place it directly onto a rock node via the lift, spin the offset drill to mine a wider section (maybe even the whole node), and activate the piston (lowest speed) to mine further down. All with the materials you already have. Btw, the beam off to the side is to offset the center of the creation, so the lift isn't in the middle of the frame. You need the lift to connect just outside the frame, so it can be placed onto the node with ease.

Use the traders building as part of your wall will keep bots from one side of being able to attack. Get a weld tool and you can build water bottle bridges by multiplying through the lift build system and weld them together. Edit: Forgot to add turn your stone into concrete it is a think a 1 block to 2 concrete ratio using chemicals and water which are both super easy to come by and use the concrete for your farm protection.

Yeah, also check out the other 00Fant mods as some of them (specially the ones listed on the gamemode's workshop page) would be very useful and experience enricher for this series. For example there's one that adds a seed press that creates wood out of seeds.

Scrap man I know it may be rare for you to see this but what if you suggested to the Trailmakers devs about adding an Air combat update after this Sea update? Maybe like “Tactical Combat” could be the name of it with airburst rounds for flak guns, homing missiles, Guided bombs, and flares+chaff for avoiding the missles? Edit: maybe suggest unguided rapid fire anti ground rockets?

Just my thought on how the farm could be defended more: I am not certain if it will work, but placing the drill above the soil plots - roughly in the center - may deter some of the bots from destroying all of the crops if they break through. Simply placing a beam between the two opposite sides of the farm would allow this. Connecting the wall to the ground with some more pillars would also help, as well as attempting to fill in the corners as much as possible.

if you dont know, you dont even need a vehicle to use the drill, as long as it is spinning and hitting into a rock, it will damage it, which only requires 2 bearings and a drill on a rod (1 bearing for the drill head, the other for moving the rod), then hit it with your hammer, this will give it enough energy to rotate the drill

Cover an island in farmland so bots spawn off the island. That way any raid is already won. You can pick an island the size of your farm and cover it. Place objects in spots you can't place soil.

Can you catch a tipping tree on your lift? Also: I think a small drill vehicle will be most efficient material wise. You could even make it have 3 wheels. You’ll just have to spawn it on the lift on the island every time, but you’d have to do it regardless so

I never figured out a reliable way of determining what way a tree will fall but what I do know is you can weld a tree to something. Build a pillar before you start chopping and if switch to the weld tool the moment you break a tree so you can snag the log and in case it falls.

25:14 So for the raid "ranking" it is actually about the ranking of the crops and not the quantity. So for an example: you've got 30 carrots (like in the video) and a level 1 raid pops up, but you plant 15 pineapples you'll get close to (if not exactly) the max raid rank Also the frequency of planting the crops impacts the rank of the raid. If you plant pineapples for 3 straight days, you are gonna get about 3 farmbots instead of one

A good way to defend your farm with more armour would be to simply double up the prongs by making them two blocks tall, making the bots take twice as long to eat through and give you more time to deal with individual bots.

To drill the rocks without vehicle, you just have to build the hanging above the rock with some blocks, slap the bearing and drill facing the rock from above, then slap the drill with hammer few times and disconnect the drill by removing the block, you will have to repeat few times until rock breaks. Drill will drop down and grind some rocks on the way ;) *keep in mind when disconnecting the drill it can potentially drop off the island". Or try just to build the hanging for a drill near the rock and spin it with the hammer without disconnecting it. Or even better, slap some blocks facing the rock you wanna drill, put the piston and switch, put the bearing and the drill on the end, slap the drill with hammer few times and press the switch :D Or just use the gas engine instead for rotation of the drill itself :D Hope it helps :D

Can make a backhoe style drill that you mount to the ground or have a platform base for support. Just needs left, right, up, and down. The piston will enable you to push it into the rocks at the desired angle.

Easiest mining method in skylands: portable power drill. Tip it over and let it rip 1 level 5 controller as a base. Attach a switch on one side and a piston on the other side long ways. Then add a curved down pipe piece, bearing and drill or fant grinder to the piston. Next program the piston to expand and contract while the bearing is spinning at max speed. It will be a small power drill you can easily spawn on a lift and store on one. Spawn it ,tip it over near a node and turn it on and let it work. (I used the small fant mod universal grinder for it and it's hilarious and perfect!)

For easy mining, just put a drill with offset on a bearing and hit it with a hammer. The speed is enough to do damage to the rock. I'm using that in my survival. Sometimes it helps to just push yourself into the drill while hitting it. Its not about rotation but about speed Update: you don't even need to hit it... Just push yourself against it and run. It will bounce between you and the rock pretty quickly. 4 and more blocks high from ground works best

fun fact: for the drill, you can just place it as a loose object and hit it towards rocks, and it'll break rocks. it's not really efficient, but it's easy and cheap.

Farm protection idea, using the mining device to attack the bots, like an offensive manned sentry mining turret. The bots would have the hesitation state for enough of a time for them to be done with and be out of harm's way.

You should pick one of those tiny islands and completely cover it with soil plots to test the raid spawning. If bots can't spawn on top of the plots, you may be safe. I wonder if it would be possible to make falling objects spawn somewhere so they don't just get lost. Wouldn't want falling bots to just spawn at home base like you do, though. This game mode could really use a glider.

I seem to remember a compact drill design that was attached to the ground with a wood or concrete pillar and simple frame big enough for the necessary parts, it had a motor or control module and a piston, I don't remember if they used a seat or buttons You'd have to disassemble it for moving every time though

the simplest easiest cheapest drill set up: 1: build a post in the ground, slap a bearing on the side at the top 2: build an arm up off the bearing, also a bearing on the front at the top 3: put the drill on the top bearing the drill will make the arm tip over and swing down into the rocks. hit the drill with your hammer to spin it. voila

for a drill rig and a saw rig, just put down some planks as a pillar, a piston to push into rocks and large trees, a bearing with a drill or saw on top, and a switch to use the piston. (you dont need an engine just use your hammer).

For a very basic drill set up you will need 2 bearing, 1 controller lvl 2, (optional for better control) a piston with lvl 3 controller, this will allow you a analog drill turret (use the controller to adjust the left right direction) if lvl 2 controller isn't fast enough then let the drill bearing be free spinning and just smack the drill to spin

Usual controller-bearing-powered drill, but make a "turret" like build with two axis rotation, and a shaft off the backside, so you can turn the turret with a hammer rather than an electric drill.

Use fertilizer on the higher tier crops to make them sprout faster and upgrade your craft bot so you can que more different crafting of materials at the same time allowing more crafting and you have toad bot heads to craft more component kits anyway so you can spare some.

Weird idea and I don't know if it will work but the small Ilands give the potential of spawn blokking. Since the bots don't seem to spawn on top of or in your creation would it be possible to make a web of blocks over the island either fully blocking a farm spawn or directing it in a corner and using a few positions to just knock them all of the edge?

if possible, maybe you can try to transfer the farm away from skyblock to groundless farm in sky where bots automatically spawn in sky and fall down automatically so you don't have to do anything. also maybe make a platform straight down the farm so you could also collect materials as you need.. example: like automatic xp farm in minecraft where mobs fall to death..

Block durability was changed at some point so that any bot has a chance to destroy any block. A haybot can very slowly chew through metal T3.

I don't know if this works in this mod, but in standard SM it does - bots don't spawn on buildings/areas which are covered by blocks..... So if you find an island a bit smaller than the starting area - and cover it in soil + "floor" using block, they should not be able to spawn in. On the other hand you miss out on the materials the raids provide.

You can definitelty survive a melee with tape bots, my friend and I took on an entire warehouse with just hammers. They're not very intimidating once you find a good strategy.

Hi Scrapman, not tested it myself but why not setting your farm against one of the trader's walls to save in materials with an unbreakable side? Also, you got not only the drill and a gas engine but a piston as well. I would say you have more than enough for a rock crushing cage.

Splitting between raids is good until your doing all tier 2 or 3 crops. Two level 1-2 raids is easier to deal with than a level 4 raid

Instead of relying on wood for all your bridges, make bubble blocks with your unlimited oil.

Grace the corners of the farm with like a checkerboard pattern and even out the spikes where there are only 1 block in between

So it seems that it would be better to use oil to make bubble block, to make walkways out of. Wood seems like a limited resource, but oil respawns. So using wood to get access to oil and then bubble blocks to get to other places

for the drill make a platform that you can move and hook up the drill to the engine since you have so much oil, you can put it on a piston but you would need a botton and controller for that

Hey Scrapman, you should build bridges out of cardboard because you can get alot more of it. also you should re-enforce the bridge on your home island, it looks like a totebot could knock it down in one hit, just the base of it. looking forward to the seires, have you thought about using vacuum pumps to build bridges? could be cool.

You can defeat the whole raid by smashing them with your lift the same way you tried to smash the red guy. Also later you can replace your lift with a fast piston and a plate-suspension-sensor combo

Drill idea: to start you could make a small block with the drill and a controller that you punt around with the hammer until you get basic materials for a vehicle

Before you drill rocks, pin down th nodes with a bar/sheet of matirial anchored to the ground and over the node. I have lost node jumping off islands.

PRO TIP Water is really easy to get So you could use it to protect your farm by placing it around your farm It is a little annoying to place though BUT it works LIKE Plz so Scrapman sees this comment

Try making a ship that when you press a button the bottem of the ship Falls out and maks a smaller one. Only use it if the ship is midly damaged
