I messed up the crankshaft threads on my 2007 Nissan Xterra!!

In my last video, I finished my timing chains and guides service. Putting on the crankshaft pulley was one of the final major steps to completing that service. Through some forced errors, I found myself in uncharted waters with a bolt that wouldn't torque. In this video I explain how I messed up the crankshaft threads and consequently, how I repaired them on my 2007 Nissan Xterra.

Hey there! Appreciate your comment. Tapping the threads really made a difference and solved my issue. It's been smooth sailing for over 30,000 miles since I put the harmonic balancer back on, no problems at all.

As long as you have the right size tap, material in the hole, and patience, you should be fine.

I hope you don't either. When I turned that crankshaft bolt and it kept spinning, I knew there was a problem and at that moment in time had no answers. I was about a day away from completing the job and thought I screwed up my crankshaft. It was daunting at first, but turned out better than expected in the end. Best of luck on your X projects!
