This is by far the best KZbin video I've ever seen. This should be given an Emmy. I appreciated you going to the Badjao house to eat lunch. As you can see what they served you was probably worth a couple of days meals for them yet they served it to you because theyre right your kind hearted people. And you giving them money made my day. I pray for the day that the Philippines will be one day be rid of divisiveness and poverty. I hope I can get to visit this place in my lifetime as it shows the true Filipino culture void of foreign influence. Salamat Drew and Deanna. God bless

loved how they said it themselves...that they are filipinos, too. i saw it in the way they greeted you and welcomed you and offered to share their meal, no matter how little they have. it's hard to explain, but somehow, no matter if it's a tribe on a remote mountain or a tribe on a remote island or just anyone on the streets of a simple province, you'll see and feel that generous heart

This documentary is a complete lie. They dont use those little goggles. The streets are actually covered in garbage, just like the beaches. The locals cant free dive worth a shit and actually use automotive style air compressors. The images used of beautiful beaches are only those near the major resorts, the rest of the Country are homes built on large chunks of dead coral, with thousands of goats feasting on the plastic and garbage on the beaches. They cant freedive anywhere near the ability of the world record holders. Its amazing how the BBC and rest of the mainstream media completely lies.

The Sama history is kind of unique and also tragic. Originally, the true Sama are nomadic. They live in big houseboats that used to sail in family flotillas from island to island, from the coasts of mainland Mindanao, to the islands of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the coasts of Sabah, Kalimantan, and even Sulawesi. They lived by trading fish (and luxury products like pearl or trepang) for agricultural products like rice. They have never had a unified government. Each flotilla was independent. When nation-states began to form, they got caught between the borders. Philippine Sama can not sail to Malaysia and Indonesia freely anymore, and vice-versa, resulting in most of them settling in littoral villages. With the advent of commercial fishing, they could not compete with big boats either. Add to that the final straw: the separatist conflicts that cut off the region for decades. The end result is deep poverty. Tawi-Tawi is only just starting to reopen again, since the terrorist kidnappers/pirates have largely been contained by military campaigns. Which is why you can now fly there. I hope it continues.

(Let's not forget their ancient history that traces back to Noah) Sama, Samoan, Shamanism or samanism all traces back to Shem also called Sem (Semitic language) and Sam the son of Noah and his grandson Shemhazai who married Ishtar where Easter Island derives its name the daughter of Nannar "Suen" "Sun the son of Enlil the ancestor of the Enlilites "lights" the son of Noah and his name matches the name of the Waccamaw Indians whose language Siouan is pronounced ˈsuːən "sun" and they are known as the "people of the fallen star" who descend from Ishtar "star" the mother of Aḥiyah "Ahia" (Native American chant Heya Heya) the father of Ogias "Og" Amorite King of Bashan and Ninja from Ningal (mother of Ishtar) and the Star of Ishtar looks similar to a Shuriken also known as throwing stars, or Chinese Ninja stars which are a variation in design that originally came from the star of Ishtar which is sometimes depicted as a 4-, 6- or 8-pointed star. Ham was called Lohan by the ancient Chinese and notice the connection to "lowest hand" in a card game and Hind founder of the Hindús was the son of Ham and where the word "hand" derives from and the connection to the legend of the 18 Arhats or Luohan and in Bengali it's referred to as ôrhôt and the Bengalese descend from Benga also called Bangla the ancestor of the Bangladeshi people and the son of Bong (founder of the Bhang tradition in India) and grandson of Hind the son of Ham. The ancient Mermen (Min) fishermen that used spears to fish with that descend from Japheth's line and the Po Valley is located in northern Italy and Seidon represents the ancient Sidonians that descend from Canaan the son of Ham. According to legend Odutiodauwa the ancestor of the Yoruba people of Africa was the son of La murudu and Lamu Island is located just off the shore of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. Odutiodauwaa came from the East according to legend and the Bantu tribe is an anagram of Nabu "TuTu" the brother of Osirus and Set and they are the children of Marduk the son of Enki and grandson of Noah and Min "Lord of the Eastern Desert" was the nephew of Nabu and Mount Nebo in Jordan is named for him. Nuba is an anagram of Nabu, the ancestor of the Nubians. Yemaya and her symbol the mermaid and Oshún the name a spelling variation of the name Ocean as in Ogenus "Ogen" "Oceanus" (Oceanids) the son of Noah and Gaia. The name for the Orisha spirits is similar to Orissa, India and is connected to Rishi Marichi "Marishi" the son of Brahma and grandson of Vishnu "Fishnu" "Nuah" "Nu also called Narayana and Nara means "water" "man" and Yana means "vehicle", "vessel", or "abode" "home" as in the biblical Ark and the name Noah means "rest" and "nua" means resting. Rishi is a great yogi or sage and it's no coincidence that it is connected to "Yoga" which comes from Modhekh "Yuj" a great grandson of Gomer son of Japheth and Yoga derives from Sanskrit root yuj means "to add", "to join", "to unite", or "to attach". Mummu was the son of Apsu and Tiamat where the word "mummy" derives from, and his sister was Lahamu also called Queen Mu the mother of Kai "Keeper of the Keys" the wife of Noah and mother of Enlil and Enki the ancestor of the Enkites (Everything is connected if we research deep enough) Benjamin Franklin and the Kite and Key experiment, and the name Kite is short for the Greek and Sumerian goddess of Earth Kai and tea as in Tytea and tea originates in China and the word electricity is named for Electra the daughter of Oceanus, Richi as in Marichi the son of Brahma and "ty" as in Thaitea "Gaia" the wife of Noah and her nickname is "Ge" combine that with the name of Noah's granddaughter named Ashia "Asia" we get the name Geisha a tradition which originated in China before being adopted by the descendants of Japheth-Nese "Japanese" the son of Noah. Enki (Enkey) and the name of the company Enkia which provides artificial intelligence software for web applications and if we change his name to Anki (son of An and Kai) is the original name of Enki, and it means he is the son of An, short for Anu (Noah) and it is similar to Ankh as in Ankey the Egyptian key to Life and the connection to the ANKH gene in humans which is involved in skeletal development. Notice the "key" sound in Kemet the name of ancient Egypt and the word keyhole pronounced ˈkēˌ(h)ōl and the name for the African Keyhole Garden (Enkey) also can be spelled Enkei which is the name of a corporation in Japan and the surname Inoki later used by Antonio Inoki born in Yokohama, Japan and the name of the Annunaki and Hopi Anu-naki means “ant friends and the name of the Anatolian peoples who inhabited most of Anatolia (Anto-Ionians) and a name connected to Inoki is Inoue pronounced Inoe and Noe was another name of Noah.

Tawitawi is peaceful as any other place in the Philippines. The media whose workers lived in Luzon often portray it as bad. In other KZbin videos it is often coordinated with the Tourism office of the LGU and PNP so no issues. Did you know that Malaysia supported by UK is the one made it sure there is a conflict in Mindanao because of the interest in oil fields surrounding Sabah just because of the former Senator. There are Malaysian boots as part of the observation group based in Mindanao along with Australia Indonesia and Japan. As I said Tawi Tawi or BARRM Region is as peaceful as it can be.

Hi Drew, I saw this video on Day 2 of my month backpacking in the Philippines and it inspired me to go. Everyone in the Visayas (locals, other backpackers, the media and my travel insurance) said I shouldn’t go. But I found this video to be more persuasive than anything else so I was so interested and nothing anyone said could convince me otherwise so I just went all by myself ready for any adventure and it all exceeded my expectations. Such a unique and real experience that everyone else misses out on when they dismiss this place. The next place I went from Tawi-Tawi was Palawan and it wasn’t unique at all, full of familiarity for a westerner. Thanks for sharing this as without your video, I wouldn’t have known to go here

It's cool that some people live like we're "created" to do. Many many years ago it was common for people to hold their breath for up to 10minutes - we've just out-evolved our own nature, so we don't have to do so anymore. Thanks once again for an amazing video, brings so much joy to see parts of the world I'll probably never visit.

Really? That's cool and it makes sense. Humans relied on the sea for hundreds of years, makes sense we'd develop some tolerance to it... Now in the modern age there is no longer a need. Very interesting how the body adapts. Thank you for your input

@@selah488 Damn! Nice appreciate you're kindness and intrest - Glad it shared some "old" news about the human being! It's also wild to think that back when people breathed less through their mouths and held their breath much more, no one had crooked teeth or smth like that. But after it became "normal" to do so, we see more problems with crooked teeth, underbites, and overbites as well.

We haven't out-evolved it, humans can still have the capacity to do this you just need to literally do it since childhood. Most people underestimate how much our bodies can adapt. I'm from Davao, I have known many fishing divers who can do 5-8 minutes, it's no genetics, you just do it out of a necessity in childhood using breathing techniques and years or practice. Your body eventually learns to manage the lack of oxygen and slowly push the survival instinct of needing oxygen further and further throughout the years. They thought me exercises and techniques and I can only last 2-3 minutes but it's a massive improvement from like 40 seconds or so.

"Most dangerous island" never really applied to Tawi-Tawi. It just got caught in the crossfire. The holder of that title is the neighboring island group of Sulu. Which even today, is still mostly off-limits to foreigners without express permission of the military. The Sama people, whose home islands are Tawi-Tawi, haven't really participated in the separatist movements that ravaged that region for decades. They're victims of the terrorist groups themselves, which is why so many have fled to Malaysia and the northern islands of the Philippines.

Exactly. He's just doing this for dramatic effect. Before the trip, talk about how dangerous it is. Then during the trip, talk about how nice the people are and how safe it is. Tawi-Tawi was never on the level of Jolo or Basilan.

It was Sunday morning and I said I was going to church. It was really amazing because he was also looking for a Christian church in our community with the specific name of the denomination. It was so wonderful to be the only tourist in a place, and the locals all treated me so well, wanting to show me the best time. They were all so supportive and can't believe the prejudice the rest of the Philippines has, you can't judge a place unless you've visited. If you can rough it, I'd highly recommend TT
