This, to this day, is the best apology video anyone has made on this god-forsaken platform. I feel happy knowing that while I had to actively detach myself from a part of my childhood that was nurturing apathy and self-hatred, I can come back to it to enjoy it again. I have been watching a few of your videos recently, and I really like the candidness of it all. It truly gives me hope knowing that not everything is fucked, and that things can evolve past its mistakes. Reading the top comments here however, I can clearly see that people have genuinely missed the point. I understand that it is difficult for people to change in the capacity that you have--oftentimes they are bound by their own material conditions, incentivized to remain the same, and profited off of--but I hope at least a few people would watch this and have a moment of introspection. All the best!

Reading the top comments sure is disheartening. I know I had to struggle with that part of myself as well, and I just started my journey to filling up the "empathy bar", but seeing someone that enabled my old ways truly, genuinely turning a new page gives me hope. Don’t really care about the Content Cops, but I miss Kickstarter Crap. Majority of those weren’t confrontational or edgy and were justifiability criticising half-baked campaigns or inherently shitty products. You’re a funny guy to watch, always have been. I understand Kickstarter Crap probably isn’t a viable series anymore due to your level of exposure now but I still find myself going back to them. Hopefully you still look back on some of your earlier content fondly, I know my friends and I do.

Growth is always hard, and I can say that as someone that grew up alongside you, both physically and mentally, I very much appreciate the new content and who you've become. When it comes to the content cops, I'll admit there has been some "over the top" moments. But I think the reason people enjoyed it so much was the fact that a chunk of what he was saying was true about those people despite him being just as bad as they were at the time. (Not all of them btw)

I think the value in the Content Cops was that he was willing to stoop down to the same level of childish vitriol as his subjects, in essence to give them a taste of their own nasty medicine. In the case of Tana, it's something that was probably justified in 2017, but as the circumstances have vastly cooled off in the 6 years since, the level of vitriol in that Content Cop remains just the same to the point that it's now very out of place in 2023. In other words, in their moment I think each Content Cop was warranted and deserved, and this was the exact reception that they got, but as time has passed, it's difficult to remember that they're each a product of a very specific point in time. Watching the Tana Content Cop in 2023 gives you a very outdated perception of both Ian and Tana, but a perception that was probably spot on when the video came out. Hit pieces can't remain current, and this clashed with the Content Cop format.

@Caleb Rohn he was literally only racist because that's exactly what Ricegum wanted he wanted him to only roast him based on his race and it tells me you didn't understand that content cop. Ian said slurs to show him he didn't give a fuck and that the flaws Ian had with him weren't based on his race. He said them to "prove him right" so ricegum could say "look he called me the bad words see! He's racist!" But in all actuality if you listened to any other part of the video youd see the flaws with ricegums personality, content, and behavior we're what he was actually critiquing. Ian systematically took away Ricegums racial argument by giving it to him and immediately throwing it to the side.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to have those feelings while also having an audience in the millions. It's hard enough to grow and learn who you are after adolescence without having to do it in front of an audience, especially when half that audience is saying "fuck you don't change." cruelty is endemic to the internet, as I get older I retreat more and more from internet culture and realise how, destructive, insecure and insane it is. This is the kind of self-reflection and "human" perspective that's sorely missing from, just about anything that happens in online communities.

I feel the endemic internet culture of cruelty and hate gets replaced with younger people who cycle through it the same way we did as young teens. I'm glad this video brings up the self growth of people like I have went through.

I feel the same way…I barley try finding any streamers and KZbin communities to join now compared to when I was in high school. I realize how cringe some of the stuff I said made me look as a person and I eventually grew up and even had to let go of friends that just wouldn’t grow up. And what makes me even more sad is that is that this is going to be a repeat cycle of mental damage to future generations of teenagers…we were part of a cycle and there is no way to stop it and society won’t do anything about mental health and we need to fix this. It’s ok to laugh at something dark humor once in awhile, but to make it your whole personality and sit and devote your life to one content creator who spreads misinformation and toxicity is just not right and I hope we can change as people eventually
