It is. Main issues were how the devs made fun of DMC4, demons later get color coded and caused weapons that didn't match that color to bounce off, and the story is weird with a Dante that sounds like a cringy edgy teen. Definitive Edition let all demons take damage from all weapons, but still wouldn't stagger or do max damage if they didn't match. You still have the base game on PC, which can be modded to disable color coding, but it's almost a requirement so you can actually enjoy the game. The game's fun when you just play it, honestly.

These combos are fucking impressive and I'd struggle to do them myself... That being said, later in the game when this kind of skill is "necessary", the enemies get a nice coat of red or blue paint that makes this beautiful show of skill impossible without mods.

DmC might have a completely nonsensical story and strange characters but there are so many good things it did. Being able to mix and match pause combos between weapons, the inverse rainstorm, being able to choose between push and pull etc etc. The most impactful though was reworking Vergil's moves, which actually inspired DMC5 Vergil significantly.

Crazy to think that under the right circumstances the dmc franchise's western reboot might've not been seen as such a bad idea if they leaned harder into this grungy stylistic punk vibe and didn't absolutely butcher the game writing wise I still remember the stream you did ages ago where you went absolutely ape shit on vergil, it was so awesome, i wish the game copied the dmc3 formula of having 3 vergil fights to reeeally build up that rivalry, cuz i could feel the potential these two had when watching you play back then, dante taking the form of a bully who throws his strength around, and vergil being this unrelenting threat

@@Sora744 DmC from all accounts wrote a series of hilariously unlikable characters, they made vergil pathetic, then expected you to be intimidated by him in the final fight (where dante the clearly bigger and stronger brother whips the floor with him), mundas was reduced to a bald comedically evil business man, sparta was turned from a legend to a normal dude?....with horns i guess, aswell as writing him to be pathetic Dmc4 wasn't peak dmc, but it was far from "butchered", story wise its pretty decent, gameplay wise it sorta flops cuz they ran out of time and had to reuse the campain (which wasn't a creative decision, more of a forced hand) and even then they made the best of it, starting you out as nero, who they succeed in differentiating from Dante while still keeping him the likable hot headed underdog (which they only further built upon in dmc5) which is not an easy thing to pull off introducing a new protagonist 4 games into a franchise, they also put you up against Dante who we know and see to be a very goofy likable guy with intimidatingly strong (i mean have you seen him when he flips on royal guard during his fights?) And then finally getting to retrace Nero's footsteps as the guy who kicked your ass twice, cleaning up the mess nero left behind (further displaying Dante's superiority) then saving Nero, we get to see dante using the yamato which was badass, then dante gives a farewell to nero aswell as the player, finally accepting his brothers death, and trusting the kid who he suspects to be his bro's son to hold onto the yamato, which is way more powerful then anything DmC had, what Donte whipping Kats squirrel seman spray paint on her foreshadowing their deep bond and connection? Lmao

His storys done, he killed Mundas, we got his origin story on dmc3, thats the whole reason they introduced Nero was because Dante doesn't have much story to tell, only reason they achieved more on dmc5 was cuz they were completing the story of both brothers, also not explaining nero's arm? He's part devil, he's vergil's son Isn't that obvious? Why doesn't dante or vergil have it, who knows, its devil things thats cant be explained, but nero was simply born that way, there's nothing to signal his arm has an origin story I can agree Kyrie is basic, but she gets the job done, and how's kat one of the best girls? We got Triss and lady, two badass demon hunters with wayyy cooler storys and personality then "i was abused but vergil saved me so i help him out now", and speaking of vergil they turned him into a fedora wearing computer nerd who sits behind dante while he does the dirty work, youre saying thats cooler then the vergil we saw in dmc3 and 5? I shouldn't even have to argue why og vergil is better, he's the definition of a video game rival, pushing dante to his limit in the plot, and the player aswell during gameplay

Dmc3 dante rather play a demon guitar and soccer with a magic ball, or how bought when he spent 30 minutes putting on his jacket, he didn't even wanna take on the mission in dmc3, and in dmc1 he only went on that mission for the random chance he'd run into the demon that killed his parents, dante was never a hero, and always had selfish things driving him 4 dante is nothing but a matured version of what he was in 3, and 4 gave us some of his most memorable cutscenes, so unless youre arguing dante being himself ruins his character, i dont see your point, tho youre also arguing dmc el donte was a likable protagonist so idk what i expected lmao

@@Sora744 i always felt dante was more just taking responsibility for his family's shit rather then a "oh no the lives at stake" And sure dante's more goofy in 4, but he gets the job done, 4's plot for him is just any old day, he walks through every boss and enemy in that game and is in so much control he can afford to have some fun, and even then clearly displayed maturity as he let go of the yamato, that was the last thing he had from his bro until 5, and he did the mature thing of letting vergil's suspected son have the sword of his father, accepting vergil's death, and it can be assumed that inbetween 4 and 5 he trained up nero and recruited him into his business, taking up a mentor role, idk how that doesn't show maturity even if he acts goofy from time to time

I bought this recently honestly just act like the characters aren’t Dante Vergil mundus and sparda and the game is honest to good pretty damn good. The aesthetic is 2010s edgy rebel gobulyguuk(which is an acquired taste) but the soundtrack actually makes it more digestible. Idk ima sucker for og dmc because of how cool Dante’s always been with everything he does and I remember when this came out I was just like idk afraid of change ig but now I tried to play with the Dante skin and idk I just don’t prefer it to the base skin because DmC Dante’s style fits his look and the overall game design. I wish they’d used Johnny yong as the voice actor tho because I swear whoever it is sounds exactly the same.
