I'mma Paint Ranni the Witch - Elden Ring Speedpaint CSP art

Ranni is a duo series with Malenia. The composition is very similar intentionally only mirrored! I still broke some things up with some differences so it wasn't hopefully too explicitly obvious but a lot of the same interworkings are in Ranni as they are Malenia as a small art series.
I have this problem where I want to polish stuff way too much. and when I say that I'm not talking about "make unimportant parts less rendered and focus more rendered" naw. (tho that is true and I follow it) but rather what I mean is... I see Artists with very loose styles and it looks SO cool. and So I tried to hold myself back on this one a bit and allow it to show brush strokes. that it's ok if there's intentionally sketchy and rough parts. and I think it still came out just as great. If anything. I think it has more textures with the piece and gives it more life by letting things be "Loos" (different than not/less rendered) and it looks great and redered even with it! so I think I'm gonna keep exploring this.
I ended up finishing the piece only to strongly dislike the more stylized cartoonish face I gave Ranni. It didn't feel like it LOOKED like her. so I went ahead and redid it. (totally forgetting to record the sketching process oops) and she looked much more like the character even in my style. Plus for Elden Ring-- Semi Realism just seems to fit better to express the fannart and will match my Malenia piece more as well! So pretty happy with that chance.
SPOILERS: LORE SHIT
I wanted to put a lot of elements of Lore in this one. So I have the Ring you give her if you do her quest. The Dark Moon of her ending (and her ultimate end goal) The stolen Curse mark of the piece of The Rune of Death that she stole to put into the Black Knife. In which she gave to the Black Knight Assassins on the "Night of the Black Knives" that she coordinated to kill Godwyn and her mortal body to free herself from the greater will's fate/destiny. (The Death mark broke in the ritual but it's all symbolic so I used the mark/piece she is most assosiated with in the game. such as how you give it to Ragiar after you get it from Ranni's dead body) And then the crystals are GlintStone crystals from Liurnia where she's from. And the white droopy flowers are Glovewart. Which is assosiated with spirits and summoning spells and puppets etc which the Carians (Ranni's family) are very much versed in such magics of flintstone. Stars. Puppets. and spirits. And a Crystal bud for the same reasons! So all elements from the game! Super fun. There was so much I could work with for Ranni. From Blidde. The spirit wolves and the bell she gives you etc. The Knife used to kill her (but I wanted to show that she lead the night of the black Knives. so I went with the Black Knife assassins blade to show that pivital point in her story) Anything with the Nox--- MY GOODNESS there is so much lore entertwined with Ranni. -- I could have put in so much more but hahah I can only shove so much into a piece without overcrowding it.
With this Channel reboot I think I'm kinda figuring out my esthetic. I'm still kinda working on it but I think this is like the closest I've gotten so fa. Honestly I might change my old thumbnail for Malenia to a similar set up as this one haha kinda wish I waited to figure this vibe out before making her speedpaint XD oh well hahah! that's growth I suppose!
Ranni doesn't have any music of her own :V so I didn't really know what to use. So unstead I used OST from...:
- Elden Ring OST: Academy of Raya Lucaria
- Elden Ring OST: Renna Queen of the Full Moon (Ranni's Mother)
- Dark Souls II : Majula (slowed down to match the key of the Academy music)

The tiny "Yippee" kills me XD. Also art question! When you did your art tips video you said to try and make the focal's or the main focal point more detailed while leaving other parts less detailed so it wouldnt take away. And when you were doing this one I saw that the bottom hand, plants and some of the crystals were less detailed but when you zoom out they don't look that way at all! Is it because of the canvas size?

hahah I'm glad! I recorded like 3 "yippee"s and picked out my favorites hahaha. hahah To answer your art question: the answer is partially! I have a very very large canvas for all of my pieces which means I can zoom in really far without it getting pixilated. (( 11x17 inches. 400 dpi/resolution)) and of course the more zoomed in you are- the more you can see it's flaws and less rendered-ness. so when you zoom out you can't see all those little "flaws" and it looks more clean. ((same reason why you shouldn't over render on tiny details and zoom in like 200% because it'll all disappear when you zoom out)) but truth be told haha I honestly didn't do that great at keeping the less important stuff "less rendered" in this one. it's something I noticed after I finished and even thought about either blurring or blending out some of the crystals-plants near the bottom because I actually feel like they are way too rendered for being so insignificant to the focus. but I decided not to because I frankly got lazy and was ready to be done with the piece after like 20 hours haha! so I just left it over rendered in those parts. hahaha! so great eye! I'm actually impressed you noticed! even when I know what I'm doing I'm still content with having imperfections or "need of improvements" in my art so I'm not bothered by it hahaha XD and if anything- I'm actually kind of hoping people notice flaws in my art sometimes. I know a lot of artists look up to me and see nothing but "perfection" and that's just simply not true. My art is full of flaws and just like everyone else I'm always learning and improving as well. and if some people see flaws in my art I hope they feel reassured in knowing that it's ok to make mistakes/flaws. you can still love your art and be happy with it and still make something amazing even if something isn't 100% perfect :> I remember years ago seeing a Q&A with Smooth McGroove (love the man) and he said something along the lines of "I'm not embarrassed about the flaws in my earlier work and even my current work. It gives it character and shows that I am human. I think that's something great. I can be proud of my work even knowing it's not perfect." ((something along those lines. not quote) and that really took a lot of pressure off of me with my internal expectation of art. I like that sentiment.💙💙

OMG THIS IS SO BEAUTIFULL!!! You captured her so well!! I love all the lore details that gone into it, I've also reciently made a Ranni fanart but only included the Dark Moon Ring, both hers and Renalla's moons, the Moonlight Greatsword and some Nox architecture, I think you can really tell your illustration was made by someone who really played and loved the game!

Her name escapes me right now, but in a super old video you'd said that one of your inspirations was a fantasy artist. When I think fantasy art, I think tons of detail, beautiful magical mystical vibe and excellent gritty-yet-pretty color palletes. You're not the artist you used to be, and that's a good thing! I think you fit right in with the fantasy artists you admire. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you got contacted by gaming companies asking you to make art just like this for their games. No doubt you've got the talent and patience (25 hours, whoa! I try not to make mine longer than 10 if I can help it!) For it.

THANK YOU!!! I notice a lot of fannart without it, BUT! That's like my favorite part!!! 😍 I had to make it a huge focus! I wanted to show the duality of Ranni's personality. So while normally they match her, I made it not match. Cuz I wanted to show how longing Ranni was to be free to walk her own destiny. And how despite how cold and dark she could be, she loves Iggi and Blaidde. So I showed that to the puppet face. Then made the ethereal face coniveing and dark, how she'll do anything, like murder, to get that freedom. Anything. No matter tye bad cost, to achieve her goal She's such a grey area character. Both but neither villain or hero. It's do cool

I can't give the name because it's literally in Japanese, but it's this cool brush that smears really well but also puts down color in such a balanced way. I'm gone for a con for the weekend,, but I need to post a list of brushes I use in my descriptions from now on. I downloaded "photoshope brush" or "photoshop airbrush" (can't remember which from the CSP community tab thing, and I put down like most of the rendering messing with that, and then blend with the smear-yyy Japanese watery brush. And it's 90% just those two lol
