my favourite love of blender is that while yes, the base software is free, there is a massive community of professionals who have developed high quality paid tools for use in blender that just make the Quality of Life a wonderful experience.👌

I learned Blender, and still learn Blender the same way. Also came from 3D Studio but started back in the DOS days. Space mouse is cool, but 'L.Shift + Tilde' and WASD for fly through navigation was a game game changer. Also while in that mode hitting Tab kicks on a basic gravity and it becomes a walk-through mode, tab again to go back to flight. I also wouldn't say Blender is better than Max. Not in totality. It's not better than anything in totality really. But it does have a few specific places that is does crush everyone else. The poly-modeling tools are one of those places. I'll take it for that over Max or Maya any day.

Oh, I have to try that fly through navigation. I love it in UE5, so maybe it will be great here too? Thanks for the awesome tips. I think what you said about Blender vs Max is true. I do really enjoy the poly modelling in Blender. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!

🤣 I don't want to give them too hard of a time, because Blender is cool, but yeah, for professional work I'm gonna stay right where I'm at. Industry standards do matter quite a bit, and there are reasons that 3ds Max is the long established standard, specifically for archviz.

True. I liked it specifically in Blender when used with the sculpting. It was awesome to completely navigate with my left hand while sculpting with my right. Great product.

Very interesting stuff, thanks for sharing :-) I am planning to give blender a go myself and this is adding to the motivation for getting started on it! The big thing that has been holding me back is that Blender has a (possibly undeserved?) reputation for having a very steep learning curve and just learning the basic UI is baffling and takes a lot of getting used to. BUT I also get the impression that the recent editions of Blender should be more beginner friendly and the UI has been reworked, so maybe its not such a big issue any more. I'd love to hear how you felt the transition from Max was regarding getting to grips with the basic UI? Great to hear the positive experience with the build in sculpting, as this is one of the main features that makes me want to learn Blender :-)

I would say that beyond the expected "re-training" your brain that is necessary, the UI is quite nice. Of course, I still find myself accidently trying to do 3ds Max shortcuts and messing up quite a bit, but it is not because of a bad UI in Blender. In fact, I am continually finding things that I like a little bit better in Blender, and there are still things I like a little bit more in Max. That said, I have NOT used Blender yet for a full professional archviz workflow, which of course is already very worked out in 3ds Max + VRay. Long story short, there might be reasons to not switch over to Blender for professional work, but the UI isn't one of them, IMO.

@@Learn-archViz Thank you very much for the swift reply and advise :-) It is really good to hear that the UI isn't so daunting as I have heard! I am personally interested in trying out Blender for the purpose of 3D printing and photogrammetry. Meshmixer is still out there but is officially discontinued, it is probably just a question of time before it gets outdated and obsolete, and Blender seems to be the number one recommended alternative for working with STL / OBJ files and obviously a much more comprehensive and likely future proof solution. I will dig into it and try and get started on learning Blender :-)

Hi! I love Blender and it's freedom to get it on whataver os or hardware and reopen a file, learn something new ecc.. and I hope too that at some point 3DS Max will merge with Mudbox and fully support Bifrost... When I model something relatively simple and straight forward, such as an apartment, I miss the ability to edit poly modifiers or modify primitive dimensions so much that I choose to return on 3DS each time

I have tried so many times Blender, i have never been able to understand what's the fuzz is all about. I mean ok it's great if you really cant pay anything, or if you are a student that is starting in the industry. Honestly with the 3DS Max Indy licence, i probably wont switch to Blender soon. It takes too much time and energy to learn again :D Edit : i dont understand what you mean about the sculpting tool. Looks exactly like the sculpting tools from 3ds Max (freeform panel in the ribbon) to me

I do think that the major excitement over Blender is the cost. Everyone can use it, so a lot of people think it is the "best." I mean, SketchUp even used to be like that, and it is not "the best" at all. I think the sculpting tools and workflow in Blender are FAR superior to what Max has. It just works way better. Someone else in here said it best, I think. Blender is not "better" in totality than other software, but it has a few key areas where it really stands out. I think I agree with that. I'm definitely not about to change my professional arch viz workflow. That is well established and doesn't need to change. But, for KZbin, I might do more Blender stuff because people like it and want to see it.

I've been installing and downloading Blender since 2.8, but I just can't get the motivation or a project to work on to dive into it. I really don't do poly modeling anymore so it's hard to just start. I no longer use Max or Maya either.

I'm a senior 3dsMax user for many, many years and I use Blender now and then since 2003. Blender is now about 20% of my workflow. What's preventing me to leave 3dsMax? Edit Poly Modifier and the power of splines. I think Blender does a better job at importing DXF from Autocad than native DWG import to 3dsMax. I need both!

When arch studios start adopting blender , I might shift - for now - I don’t see any point other than the $ and personal reasons. There is nothing advantageous in the Blender workflow, when you have everything you need in 3Ds plus VRay and now Vantage for arch viz. Note, I’m talking from an ArchViz perspective only.

Yes! I feel like a lot of the comments I get about Blender are 3d enthusiasts, but not professional archviz artists. I also have my workflow very locked in with 3ds Max, specifically for archviz projects. I DID really enjoy poly modeling in Blender, though.
