My Dad was in the Air Force, in the early 60’s we lived in Tampa. By 1972 we were living in Alaska. Went back to visit Florida in the early 80’s and like he said I hate the bugs, humidity and hurricanes so back to Alaska we go!!

Adam my wife kids and I own a "vacation" home in Celebration. When we go to Disney there are residents of Celebration that will drive you to and pick you up from the parks, so you can avoid dealing with the craziness of the transportation center and parking at the parks. It's a nice little inexpensive perk and if you look on the community website you will find all the info you need. Welcome to Celebration Adam.

Can I inquire a bit about the logistics of owning a vacation home there. We live in Kentucky but I grew up in Florida and we want to buy a vacation home in the spring down there. But since we won't be there full time, we will need to have it maintained and looked after. Do you rent yours out or do you have a company that does maintenance for you?

@@tiffaneycupps1288 Hi Tiffany, I will happily tell you our experience with purchasing and caring for the house in Celebration. We bought the house with cash 4 years ago. We had been watching the prices tick down and down for some time and finally pulled the trigger on a beautiful 4 bedroom home, that is actually larger than our permanent residence in Michigan, minus the big chunk of property. We sit on close to an acre in Celebration. Caring for the home (lawn, routine maintenance) can be a bit tricky but we found some great people on the community website who care for the lawn and do have access to the home. They are criminal background checked and came highly recommended. For instance they will run our faucets weekly and just do a cursory walkabout thru the house to make sure there are no water leaks or any other impending disasters. We have cameras in the public areas of the house and remotely let them into our home ourselves, when the need arises. I'm quite pleased with the community and it's a safe (bad things can happen anywhere) fun environment for our 3 children as well. Being so close to the parks was the real draw for us and we can spend as little as a morning in the parks or spend all day and still escape the craziness and crowds of the parks. It was a wonderful investment for my family and I! I hope my info helped answer some of you questions! Have a great day!

@@tiffaneycupps1288 You are very welcome! I've heard good things about winter garden as well. Another idea for you as well, if you and your family so choose Technically speaking you could rent out the Celebration or Winter Garden home and make some money off of it, when you are not there. Over time it will recoup the cost of purchase and pay the (kinda expensive) tax bill. We added the cameras and sexurity systems for that exact reason but the thought of people I dont know in my home and bed, strikes me as a bit, well um icky. It is a great option for some families tho! The other thing I should warn you about in Celebration is depending where your home is, is that neighbors can be a bit "hoity toity". I bought our house at 35 yrs old and my neighbor (a retired doctor) made it a point to tell me that I'm far too young to deserve a house in that neighborhood. Most people in Celebration are fantastic friendly and kind tho! Last word of warning is that the home owners association are sticklers and the house and yard must be pristine at all times. I really hope you and your family will consider Celebration, it truly is a wonderful place!!

Good decisionI I lived in FL for 5 years in the early 00's. My parents lived in another part of the country about 12 hours away. Before I had lived in Florida for one year I lost both my parents. By the time we left 5 years later, I lost two aunts, two uncles a family friend, my ex lost an uncle and a nephew. I was never as glad to leave anywhere as I was to leave FL. I can't get that time back that I missed with my parents before they died. We only have an undetermined amount of time with those we love,. Spending whatever time is left with your parents is very important. I know they will be happy to have you near! Good luck to you Adam!

Florida represents hope and a better, fresh start. California is a failed experiment and dead end. Taxes, unsustainable real estate prices, increasing vagrancy and homelessness, and government interference. Florida is less depressing and stressful. I’m more interested in learning about Florida than Cali as I’d easily rather live in the Sunshine state. And financially, could actually live there.

Hey Adam, love this video and hearing your perspectives and thoughts about So Cal versus Orlando. I grew up in So Cal and lived in the Bay Area for many years. Later, I relocated to Miami Beach for a year, hated it, and then swore off Florida, vowing to never return. But one day, I broke my oath and decided to explore Orlando without going to theme parks, and I was impressed. My wife and I went to restaurants and other venues around Orlando, and we learned that the "Disney Way" exists in many establishments. Good move! Celebration looks cool, and Woo Hoo for you!

I just moved to SoCal about 5 months ago....this is coming from a person who spent 25 years in South Carolina ( A few years in FL actually ) and just recently spent 3 years in Washington State. You couldn't pay me enough to move back to the South East and especially somewhere like Florida but different strokes for different folks. Most of the people bashing California in the threads have probably never left Alabama once in their life. Yup, tons of people move away from California but it also has 40 million residents. With that many people its only logical that a percentage of people will hate it here. Most of those people are die hard republicans and to me it makes sense. Enjoy your muggy summers, half a**ed crappy winters, Hurricanes, Tornado's, high winds, hail and ENDLESS bugs. Ill enjoy my average yearly temps of 75 degrees down here near San Diego :). At the end of the day you gotta just be where you want to be and SoCal is / has always been my home ( in my heart ).

The weather is the best thing about California. Other than that, it's extremely difficult economically unless you are very wealthy.
