Good stuff Alex! I know that you've hit bigger stuff, but your point is well taken. We don't pick up where left off with jumps. You have to work back up to them. I need a day like this myself. Just go to the jump line and ride laps.

We are on the same journey. Last year was my 1st year after a huge injury the uear before. All last year i avoided the jump that i seperated my AC on. This year i hit it already. Got a little squirley on the landing, but i did stick it and not crash!

I get the season starter and back to pre injury confidence, but I’m seeing jumps with knuckles, rocks, narrow landings, road gap, lol. Plenty of variety and temptation (sketch) for someone trying to shake the “this feels sketchies,” or trying to learn wheels off the ground. If you can, find a park that has levels of safety. For me it was Thunder Mountain and “The Gronk.” But there are plenty other parks. Very gradual height and steepness increases, flat tops, gradual landings and Wide! The point is its not all mixed up (at least in 2019) on one trail. I know long comment. Lol

You mention how fast Nate is. He was absolutely pulling away pretty regularly. That gives me pause to think... It looks like he's really pumping things efficiently/effectively. That pumping action is also useful when jumping if you're trying to boost (you basically end up pumping up the lip). I wonder if going back to basics a bit and improving your pumping would gain you even more ground in this jumping realm? Hit some pump tracks and REALLY work hard on getting that motion and that timing locked in. I bet your jumping - which is already improving again - will get even better!

Hey Alex, I am a new subscriber! love your vids, colaborations, adventures and your awesome positive vibe! I literally could almost throw a rock to Kanuga from my place but never ridden there. I am a roadie as well and recently crashed goind down Ridgeline at a high rate of speed unfortunately landing on a stump breaking 5 ribs (broken total of 19 now!) and pneumothorax. I want to learn to jump (safely lol). My question' s are what is the correct sensation of moving the body around whilst in the air? Do you want to stand up and push off the lip or just let momentum carry you into the wild blue? Thanks bro & carry on!
@mattgies Жыл бұрын
The best advice for me was from The Loam Ranger, who said "stand up to the jump". As in, keep your torso vertical as you approach the lip. In the air, try to do a little bar turn to stay in control of the bike.

I'm curious about these big jumps, do you pull on the bars? do a bunny hop motion? or stand up to the jump, have enough speed and do a pop?
@growlith6969 Жыл бұрын
There are two types of riders: Those who can correct attitude in the air, and those who eventually wreck because they didn't. So the only secret to jumping is to not get any big air unless you are comfortable with moving around in the air. Otherwise you will come down wrong, crash, and get hurt very very badly.
@onlysendsmtb Жыл бұрын
On jumps that are at the upper edge of my confidence and abilities I do very little other than controlling the bike until I have lots of confidence on the jump. Then I start boosting and throwing in some style. I watch guys all the time that don't pull, hop or stand up clear big jumps. With enough speed and control you don't need much else. Style comes with lots of experience.
@gavinm3494 Жыл бұрын
depends on the jumps. like the ones down by the parking lot require more technique, like more standing up to the jump because theyre steeper. But on tortuga, its mainly just not letting the g forces of going in to the lip throw you off and having enough speed because the lips are more mellow. still scary the first 10 times and by no means easy, but they require less technique than the ones down by the parking lot.
@onlysendsmtb Жыл бұрын
@@gavinm3494 Very true. My advice is geared towards the more mellow big jumps. Steep jumps ARE a different breed. I don't have much experience with steep lips
