Two years ago, I did exactly what this guy called in for. Quit the rat race, bought a $50k truck for the same reason and went for it hauling loads. Today, all business equipment is 100% paid off, I have a good reputation, my operating costs are a lot lower and my business is still going. In those two years my net worth went up $100k in paid off business assets/$ in the bank from the hustling. Sure I made mistakes/sacrifices along the way in two years but it can be done! Advice - keep learning, always keep beans and rice in the cupboard, you never know when you'll need them! And never stop grinding!

It’s crazy that this guy called about buying a $50,000 truck to pull loads. I bought a $50,000 truck to do the same thing because the old truck was giving me problems just like What he’s going through right now. I paid off the truck within eight months. The truck did not give me any problems at all so I did not have to repair anything for a long time. I am on year three All I’ve done was tires and oil changes. The truck is at 167,000 miles now Grossing at least $220,000 a year Averaging $6000 a week. This world is Risk taker. You just have to believe in yourself and if you do I think you will succeed.

I hope this guy didn’t just blindly take Dave’s advice. As someone who owns a trucking company, I can say that advising against credit is not always the best answer when it comes to this business. I’d tell him not to invest the 50k into a side hustle, because he’s not missing out on 50k in profit. If he was doing this full time, he’d be missing out on 300k or more a year. It really depends on that first and foremost.

My husband once told me he wanted to buy a $40,000 truck because we needed a new refrigerator and Sears was going to charge $25 to deliver it. If he had the truck, we could save the delivery fee. I just looked at him until he finally admitted that his argument didn’t make sense.

Only in business 1 month...$1K profit..$22-24K debt...$50K income...and you want to buy a $50K truck and your household income is only $50K? Doesn't take a money oracle or rocket scientist to figure this out!! $72-74K debt after just a mere month??? That's crazy!!

He honestly might be better off renting a truck per trip if it's side jobs. Then he can get exactly the right size truck for the load. If it's light rent an f350 if it's a heavy haul rent a 5 ton with a goose neck. You can rent a top end heavy haul 5 ton with the insurance included for like $1500 a month. And yes that's a good deal because you aren't stuck in financing or a loan and return it when you don't need it. You can rent one for $100 a day, do a trip maybe you get paid $1200 for the trip, $300truck rental $300 gas and you make $600 for a 3 day trip. Much better then signing up for $50,000 commitment, plus you need to buy commercial insurance (I bet he isn't) and then the truck sits in the driveway 24 days a month and you made $2500 in trips but your loan payment, insurance and gas was $2500 and you are officially part of the working for free because you financed everything club.

A friend of mine bought a $65,000 dollar truck and a $10,000 job trailer within about two weeks of each other. The trailer is about a quarter full of tools, and mainly just sits. The truck mainly pulls the one trailer every now and again, and gets driven around as a personal car. He only moves the trailer maybe twice a month
