My grandmother had a nearly identical piece on her wall for years. It was a small gold clock, with a parchment color background and black Roman-style numbers on the face. The clock had a small self-winding dial that came out to wind the clock, which seemed to run forever. The two screws prevent it from moving side-to-side while you install it and give it more attachment points for the bottom of the piece. If you recall, back then items were installed into plaster & lath, then through that were often oak or other hardwood studs. No wall anchors, no drywall, no pine studs as often found in today's home construction. An antique clock shop may have information missing a clock. The other boxes-liquor crates and the one with all the small drawers were often used in sewing, kitchens, and even some smaller hardware stores-but those often show the oils of the items held-screws, brass pieces, and have wear marks from being pulled in a certain direction OR if the items held were heavy. Most homes had at least one in the sewing area or in the kitchen to hold spice's from my experience and seeing them. Really enjoy your channel and best of luck!

That sounds pretty interesting and cool. Interesting how these days they make everything so differently
@hal0eight2 жыл бұрын
What above said. It would have been a clock and you would have wound it from the front with a key. You'd open the hinged glass front, wind it, off it went again. They probably only needed winding every few days. In 19th century manor houses where they had clocks, it was the job usually of the butler or valet to walk around and wind all the clocks a few times a week.

That small cabinet looks just like a Victorian watchmaker‘s cabinet. There would be a clock/watch and that round area and the drawers are used to hold springs tools and other small accoutrements.

I was thinking that too, maybe a hygrometer or thermometer. If this chest held dry spices or something similar it would make sense to have a humidity gauge.

14:37 This must be the most epic Honey moment caught on “videee-oh” to date. Undaunted in her quest to be both lazy and productive at the same time (felines do this) Honey begins her 4th quarter, Bears game on the line motions. Why jump down and walk and hop back up when one good vaulting heave could do it? Will she make it counter to counter? Will undamaged items remain? How many hoomans could get in the way? Remember where you are, so you know where you were when Honey put it all on the line!

That green lite cove is seen in the French Quarter in NOLA. The clip in the bottom back wall in the center is for a clip to hold the Gas Line which is for Gas lighting for the door entry. The front door is to help relite it if the wind knocks out the flame to the gas line. That wooden wall piece that round hole in the front bottom is for a clock that a self winding like the old traveling alarm clock for made for that piece.

I'm probably coming to this vid too late. The slim drawer cabinet at the bottom looks just like the cabinet I have (I'm in the UK) it's a watch and clock makers tool cabinet and should have a lockable wooden front cover. Love what you are doing.

The lantern appears to be a Charles Edwards style candle lantern and the holder in back is for the candle holder. I found one, not identical but very close, online. The pair sold for $700.00. Edit: not $700 but $630.00

I think the mystery round area is for a small mirror. Seems to me like that is a piece that goes in your entryway, holds keys, a scarf, checkbook, um a couple of dime bags maybe (kidding), you know what I'm talking about though! And then with a mirror at the bottom of that entryway piece, you can check your look quick before you go out the door. Check the tie, check the hair, take a bump and then check the nose, check out the fly suit you just bought. And then finally it's confirmed, you are a damn handsome man and you are ready for whatever life throws at you that day. Fo sho!
