I rarely work with green wood, but in my early turning days before I could afford a self centring chuck, I bought an extra face plate to dedicate to a glue block like this, and did not reverse my hollowed projects; parting off through a paper joint or thin ply to conserve precious blank material. Then Nova G3 chucks arrived in Britain, but I was still slow to let go of my habit. If one doesn't posses large jaws that method is still useful,. Alternatively, an independent chuck can be used, which, incidentally, saves cutting spigots on irregular shaped logs for spindle work. Reversible stepped independent chucks have much larger capacity and depth and are considerably cheaper to buy). Bernard.

How we chuck something up on the lathe still depends a large amount on our creativity. I still use a face plate occasionally and there’s nothing better. Sam

Glenn Lucas sells the corrugated pad material for those re-mount jigs, and uses the fixtures in his classes.

Nice holding fixture Sam. It will be even better with the addition of the kneeling pad. A fixture like this will be just right for a couple of once turned bowls I have. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Yes, I’ve already used it three or four times and it works like a charm very easy and handles bowls of different sizes
