It's true, people are so concerned for being right, rather than coming to a point of realization where they can accept the situation of being fair. I encountered the same when I tried to get into coaching. The whole experience is competitive, and I didn't realize this until I moved on. It's hard because I played the game my whole life, but I remember the team I helped start would never have me back after I got injured, and all the people who were there when I tried to come back, it seemed like they would rather I die, than to give me any shot at playing time, or coaching time. It was very stressful, and I'm glad you came to some realization and acceptance so you can be closer with your son. I know how it feels. Thank you for sharing this, and to all the haters out there. Peace and love to you all!

Good decision, Jake! It's admirable to step back and evaluate the big picture and decide which things are primary and which things are secondary. Family first, and then build your life around that. I wish you the best in your pursuits!

So glad you're back! Looking forward to positive, informative videos. Too many KZbin Soccer channels are predicated on critiziing everything and everyone, making it mentally exhausting and frustrating to watch. Honestly, it got to the point that I stopped watching Soccer videos on KZbin.

Thank you for sharing. I left what I thought was a dream job back in 2022. Initially, the allure of the opportunity was a huge bump in pay and a ton of resources but I had no life and it got to the point where I dreaded getting out of bed every day. Good on you for making the moves you needed to make for yourself and your family. Looking forward to new content on the channel.

I wondered where you went and missed your show. I respect you even more to hear that your family is more important to you than a "dream job" that consumed your life. Balance is everything. Anyway, welcome back!

This video makes me so happy. I'm glad you've found a more sane balance where you can feel passion for soccer again while being more present with family -- this is always the right decision. You and Tom are some of my favorite MLS journalists so that pod is already a must-listen. Cheers to a brighter 2024 and beyond 🍻

Glad you had the opportunity at MiB, how it allowed you to recognize what a healthy balance is for you, and you'll be able to prioritize your family and enjoy the game we love without burning yourself out. Enjoy the time with your little one, those early years are a special time to grow and bond together as a whole family. Excitng years ahead for both your family and soccer in the US!

Welcome back brother! Refreshing to hear another dad feel similarly to me when it comes to work and home autonomy. Sounds like you know yourself and that’s what’s most important. Someone said you have ten to eleven years when you and your wife are your kids best friend and superhero and after that their friends fill that role. Cant wait to hear more great content from you. As far as the gio thing goes, i think we should all feel free to bust each others chops in good spirits if there’s an off take here or there but people shouldn’t cross a line and unfortunately it can go in that direction. Missed you brother glad you’re back!

I did not hear about whether you recovered your passion for soccer that you mentioned you had stopped feeling while at Men In Blazers, but I can understand it very well because it happened to me during a time when I was working a lot, 70 to 80 hours a week, for almost no progress on the project I was working on, and at that time, I stopped caring about soccer, and many other things that I cared for as hobbies. I was depressed. My interest in soccer came back when I started having interesting conversations with people about soccer after the experience I told you about, and I hope that you have been able to recover the passion you had for soccer. I look forward to seeing your videos.

What 79 years of life and business experiences have taught me. You have to love what you do to be great at what you do. You can't be someone, someone else wants you to be for too long without hating who you've become. Sucess is when experience meets opportunity. Working 7 days a week only makes sense if you know, in the end you own equity in the business and get rewarded when a favorable financial transaction happens, and you share in the proceeds. The love and happiness you share with your wife and son is everything.

@sethland8 ай бұрын
1. I am right there with you. Early in my career I felt the need to establish myself (in engineering consulting & startups). I often worked late in the night and once pulled an all nighter. It looked good on my billable hours summary. That is not possible nor advisable with children.. they are your legacy and will far outlive work accomplishments. 2. I didn’t know MIB was a separate company, thought it was a subsidiary property of NBC sports. How did you guys get rights to show Prem clips? Since ESPN and CBS don’t show clips I thought those rights were tightly restricted.
@JakeLandau8 ай бұрын
Thanks Seth! And on 2. MiB are their own company and the NBC show is one thing they produce. They have an agreement that gives them access to use PL footage but only in US and Canada.

too funny, your Dream Job sounds like my 1st post-college job, where after a year we were asked to work nights and weekends for free to kick start the value of our high-tech start up for sale, and in a company of 30, and me the youngest by far, I was the only one to say, "No." I surf and never work weekends, and pointed out the 'we' were working for free to make the founders and and investors millions. With such logic, the employees agreed with me and we leveraged for stock, and a % of the company... worthless today, but you take a chance on winning the lottery ...

Dude you also have a CFP! That designation is NO JOKE! Congrats on that by the way! You're crushing it! This is coming from a fellow husband, father of a young one, and financial professional who's struggling with work/life balance without any youtube channel. Random thought: seems like there would be soccer influencers and athletes who need your expertise. I'd love to have clients like that. I'm sure you've connected with some during your time at MIB.
@JakeLandau8 ай бұрын
Haha it’s definitely crossed my mind but I also don’t want to take advantage of the friendships I’ve built with athletes and retired pros. They know what my next step is if they find themselves in need of help.
