Do yourself a favor and build an island that can easily be moved. Believe me you will be glad you did. It will always seem to be in the way. So put it on locking casters so you can move it. There is a design available on line that the casters are on two plates that can recess and set the base directly on the floor and no one knows it can move from the outside, then you open a door step on a peddle and it lifts to the wheels and you can simply roll it out of the way, do what you need to do, then put it back and pull a lever and set it back down. Very easy build, a first year shop student can do it.
