What we did, with a cabin position like this, was dig a hole and bury a cable in concrete, then wrap that cable around the front of the deck, then bury the other end of the cable in concrete too. This gave the cabin a very strong cable loop anchoring it to the hillside.

The deck's coming along! Good decision I think to do one on the other side. Re - meaning of doing the cabin - if you are enjoying the build that is the main thing, but I think you will really enjoy the views and the place for years to come. Like the Stop-A-Tool feature. Maybe Phil Swift on the Flex Seal ads could sell the heck out of it and you'd be a fabulously wealthy Feisty Lumber Goddess. Steve's invented the self-felting sock with the dog hair. Great episode, I really enjoyed it. Cheers!

Your hammering skills are quite impressive. Doing a full swing and hitting the nail better than 95% of the time isn't easy unless you nail things for a living. FYI, you were using the adjustable wrench the wrong way when you put the anchor bolt in the big rock. You want to pull against the fixed jaw. It is designed to take the strain. Pulling against the movable jaw will cause wear in the wrench. There are times when you have to pull against the movable jaw because you can't get the wrench in the right way, but you want that to be only when you have to.

I just love you and Steve. I didn't realize Norton was from NC. I have retired to near Franklin NC. The mts are beautiful here. What you do rescuing the dogs is Gods work on earth. We have a rescue dog and a rescue cat and love them both dearly. Your ending dialogue was just so spot on, and Moonlight Sonata 1st movement, one of Beethoven's great works just fit. I think we all love your spirit of just do it. I built several structures alone back in my younger days and all but the last two just came out of my head as I built it. One was my larger studio that eventually became a 40 foot square structure with half of it having an upstairs. It took 4 years in and amongst touring but I did it! The last couple I had learned to use sketch up quite proficiently and drew them out completely which still required the imagination, but I made all my costly mistakes in the software lol! And you are right, I'm so glad I did all that stuff. No where near the same energy level now so I live vicariously thru people like you watching you do all the work lol! But I love your philosophy. I pretty much lived it that way as well. However, I never built one on the side of a cliff having to move the materials down a mt lol!! Just be careful.
@michygoss7148 Жыл бұрын
Yep - Norton was the longest resident at the shelter (9 months he spent there), so that’s why we picked him. He is a very sweet boy, and a true foxhound! 😊 I’m told that sketchup would be so handy - I see so many people use it. Maybe one day I’ll get to that point too, but for now I just enjoy seeing where my creativity takes me with things. Your structures sound like works of art also, and when I’m in my senior years I’ll be doing the same as you! That’s the way life goes 💝💝 Thanks, as always, for your support and lovely comments!
@BirdYoumans Жыл бұрын
@@michygoss7148 Sadly, I'm seeing that the free version of sketchup is no longer available. I didn't really start using it until in my 70's, but it is fun to create with it once you learn your way around in it. But you're right, there's something about the adventure of just doing it with a "hammer and some nails" lol!
