@@michygoss7148 I have a serious problem with my roof hailstone damage from 2022, yes you heard it right 2022, my insurance company called Pacifica, absolute waste of space and time, I do believe that some people locally and my ex have had something to do with the work not being carried out, I do have a old asbestos roof, I’ve been told I have got to pay for it to be removed, The reason why I fell to the floor this morning , as that my floor was wet in my lounge I hadn’t realised, when I placed my ladder against the opening up into the attic, I went up to secure it before I had a chance it had slipped away just as I was getting onto the attic floor, I fell hit against the wall that I’ve been building managed to grab all of it and the floor my gloves came off and I carried on going down, not sure whether this is appropriate, but I have about 8 inch bruise on my left leg, bruises on my buttocks scars on my left arm, I will say it again. Pacifica is a waste of space., they are told me one thing that I would have my roof repaired within 2 to 3 months as they had been a lot of people had damage, over two years waiting yes you heard it two years, I’ve got around 60 to 70 containers up in my attic collecting water, I wish I could win the lottery and I will strip the whole thing off myself and redo it, but I have been told not allowed to touch it, got to have a specialist coming to remove the roof, something else I should mention two weeks after the insurance company at received the paperwork people came round to cover the roof with Talonsheets. About three weeks after I noticed I still had leaks in the roof., what they are done is put screws through the outer button to hold the tarp on and done more damage to the roof, I sent an email to the company saying that I had a problem, Pacifica sent my email back, never got a reply, now thinking about taking legal action account Pacifica. Complete waste of space.. Anybody reading this throughout Europe? I suggest that you read your insurance documents especially is from Pacifica., and I suggest changing your insurance, As always, polite and hopefully helpful, stay safe keep up the great work, I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets removed,

Sorry to hear about Clyde, Michelle. Couple of tips. The rubber membrane you have below the first course at 12:38 needs to be in a vertical position behind the planking so as water will not get inside the cabin on wind driven rainy days. Another thing I noticed was your floor beams (at 28:00) need to be braced to each other so they do not "tip over" as the load on them increases as you add more weight to the cabin. One would nail a "rim joist" on the face of these to prevent this. Once those are installed, you also need 45 degree supports to all of your 4x4 vertical posts under those beams.😉

Hello Michelle. When you spoke of how to join the boards of the walls, I liked all of the choices. It comes down to your choice. I especially like the 45-degree choice. I think that would entail scribing. The first one is cut, and the adjoining one is marked and a reciprocating (jig) saw would be used to cut it. I think all of the boards, slabs, are different so it would take a bit more effort to achieve that look, but I like it (who cares, right?). Attaching to boards to the corner post would be neat looking if pegs were used. That look could be achieved by using lag bolts and filling the hole with what looks like a peg was used. Whichever method you choose, just commit to it because you know you can. By milling to get more slabs, you have "killed two birds with one stone", which you wouldn't do, slabs and boards for another project. Well, this was all for not because the walls are probably up. But alas, the peg look is still possible with a Forstner or spade drill, dowels and wood glue. I remember "The Search for Clyde". Perhaps you will hear him in your dreams. Have good days!

What can not be seen in a video, is the delicious smell of all the wooden parts: also the smell of it's surroundings. It must give a rich feeling to undergo. Of course there is the thinking with a lot of thoughts for the creating process. But at the end you will succeed and hopefully you can enjoy your shelter. Those were the days. Usually you would want to protect your end-grain wood as much as possible from the elements. That's the reason why you tend to cut 45° angles in the corners (wich is not an option here) and why you put frames around your windows. In your case inserting a corner piece on the walls edges would have been a smart choice. Thanks for sharing Clyde in all his glory. Rest in peace...
@michygoss71482 ай бұрын
Good point about covering end grain wood. I am slathering all the slabs in a sealant (likely used motor oil), so will make sure I do the end grains well. The corner piece would have looked nice too, but at that time I wasn’t sure and felt like keeping the eye all to horizontal lines. I think if I had done the windows first, I could have tried to match to them. 🤷🏻♀️

To manage all these critters I had 17 ranch dogs and five house dogs. It was hard for me to watch that video. No Clyde was already passed away. So I stopped. I’ll catch you on the next video. Will cost more in time, funds, and effort in the short term but will pay benefits in the future and you will appreciate that.
