I recall Ted mentioning that he's been having a really tough time finding suppliers as of late and that it's basically impossible to ship internationally due to celluloid's extreme flammability. It was a few episodes back I believe. I wanna say the one where he re did the body binding on that old gibson acoustic cuz the vintage stuff was rotting off

The thing I like about his channel is that he's very honest with what he finds on the guitar even when you can't see it he'll point it out that way if you're the one buying the guitar and you watch the video you are going to know everything that is wrong with that guitar cuz he shows you everything whereas most people that are reselling would hide that so you're awesome for that reason buddy keep up the great work

Hey Austin, If memory serves me correctly, I was the original purchaser of that HOG Les Paul. I'm 99% sure mine was serial number 22 of 30. Some time around 1999 I sold it to Elliot down at Rumble Seat music, along with a HOG 25th anniversary Silverburst standard. Back when I sold it, Elliot had MANY MANY Japanese collectors on speed dial, and it would not surprise me if that is how that guitar ended up in Japan. The ORIGINAL case that came with the 30th Studio was a Black Levys Gig Bag, and the Les Paul photo was installed on the guitar, right before my very eyes by Andy Babiuk, the author of "Beatles Gear" and "Rolling Stones Gear".

I especially shopped for a studio just for the reason. I ended up with a 97 ebony w/ gold trim and 496/500 pups. For $800. With a chainsaw case. Now I've replaced anything that could be labeled inferior including Kluson locking tuners, Tonespro locking bridge, Tusc XL nut, CTS 500K pots, 50's wiring with cloth wrapped wires. Love this guitar now.

Kewl beans! H.O.G. I lived in Ottawa Ontario in my teens in the 70s (no, not the 1870s smart guy), and we got the Rochester t.v. stations. H.O.G. used to buy a ton of late night ad spots on local t.v. and their ads we're kinda dumb, silly, and fun. Late movies and H.O.G. ads were s staple of my teens. Also, lots of local pickers would go to Rochester to shop for guitars at H.O.G.. I think they probably did a fair bit of Canuck business. I'm pumped to hear they are still around.

@@igorshunch 100% I LOVE this channel. While I had been playing guitar nearly every single day since I had been in a band back in 2017 (I’ve played guitar since 1987 & until 2017 it had never been more than a passing hobby and I could go a month or more without playing unless I was in a band at some point during that 30yr span) this channel has really reignited my spark and passion for guitar in-general. To be more specific this channel/Austin has strengthened and encouraged my affinity for Gibson’s and I am very grateful for that’s my fiancé on the hand would not be if she had any idea what I’ve been up to since 2020 lol. I’m actually looking work with a buddy of mine, possibly starting this summer, to offer up a very similar KZbin channel of our own. I think the biggest difference will be however, while my buddy and will 100% be looking to “flip” guitars I am not going to get into as much detail as Austin/Trogly rather I want our channel to be inspired by and not a rip-off of or a copy of this channel. I’m sorry for such a long-winded reply. Ultimately I agree 100% that Austin’s presentation, level of knowledge and what he remembers are beyond impressive and someone like myself can only hope to aspire to be as good at this as he is at it. Be well!

I got mine in 95 I believe, at a pawn shop in basically new condition except whoever had it before me was very inexperienced and when they changed the strings they scratched up the headstock a great deal. Since then ive had tattoos on it, and eventually had it pinstriped, Im looking for a way to get the pinstriping off now considering the prices these things go for nowadays, it was my first Gibson though and I doubt if i ever get rid of it.

Can you steam the fretboard back into place? I am sure they didn’t use hide glue on a Studio even back then right? Perhaps you can confirm whether you’ve heard this or have any feedback on this but I read that genuine hide glue used on today’s Custom Shop models as well as the 50’s models they’re much easier to repair by simply steaming the neck off? The maple tops they use an epoxy however so you cannot steam a maple top off but from what I’ve read you can steam the hide glued neck off for repair reasons. Any insight on that?

HOG commercials are burned into the memories of every Gen X person from the Rochester area (Dansville, NY for me)... "the great GREAT House of Guitars..." and "hop...hop..." Easter bunny ad... also remember being amused as a kid (because it just sounded funny at the time and I had no idea what it meant) when, in one commercial, they kept advertising a new album "Who Who Are You ?" (at 8 or 9 years old, not realizing that was the band AND album name)... good times...

Real celluloid shrinks and warps. Put that in mind when storing it, chip boards and screws work great.

That is sweet something about the Studio model always makes me smile. Epiphone Studios are literally the cheapest entry point. This guitar really needed fingerboard binding however. I would switch the bridge to something closer to a Slash Zebra but wouldn't be able to bring myself to do it on that exact guitar. The reason I love the Studio model. They aren't precious. As far as pickguards go.. I'd probably look for "Boburst" or somebody like him. You really should get a Bob built guitar. I wish the Crown was done as a truss rod cover as well.

You should have a go at making a replacement pickguard yourself. All you need is some pearloid plastic, a coping saw and a Dremel for bevelling the edges. If you purchase the pearloid material, you could probably just get it laser cut locally. I'd do it for you but I live far, far away.

Could you coat the pick guard in something to seal it in and stop the off gasing?

Did you no notice that the string spacing is off? Your D is too close to the A at the bridge. It looks fine at the nut, so is the saddle slot misaligned, or did you just not seat it properly when you restrung it?

That truss rod cover looks super crooked Oo * - ALSO - Search for *White Pearloid Pickguard for Gibson Les Paul* if you want to change it like he did, they're about $15-$20, many on eBay.
