It has been a long couple days. I am so thankful that my daughter is alive and now settled back in with the children. Today I am going to go over what happened to my 5 year old daughter as well some signs to look for.

My heart goes out to you! The same thing happened to my 1 year old 😢 thirst, dehydration, high urine output, lethargic. But it was July in Florida so I thought it was just from the heat and playing outside. I never thought to check his blood sugar. He went into diabetic ketoacidosis and almost went into a coma 😭 it was when he started breathing heavy and was so tired that I finally brought him to the ER. I feel so guilty, I should’ve known the signs. I should’ve gotten him help sooner. His blood sugar in the ER was in the 600s, and it took them 6 hours to figure out what was wrong. He was breathing heavy, lethargic, his lips were turning blue. they were getting ready to put a breathing tube in when they finally found out what was wrong and lifeflighted him to the pediatric ICU. There needs to be more education on T1D. The symptoms started 3 months before his diagnosis last July. I’m so thankful you caught it early!! Good job being on top of your sweet daughter’s needs!!

Just saw this video and boy do I get the stress of this situation. In 2003 my 5 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I am a pediatric nurse and recognized lot of little things like you. His first bs that we checked was 463. I have learned so much in the last 23 years and Jake has been on an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor for many years now. There are other autoimmune diseases that are associated with type 1 diabetes that she should be screened for.. let me know if you would like to pick my brain. Best wishes

He’s an industrial mechanic, has a 1A truck driving license, got certified as a scuba diver, husband, father, and very energetic, adrenaline loving man. He has a pump and a Medtronic tester. It is definitely a learning curve. We are a farming, whole food eating, garden growing, canning family also. Don’t let people tell you it’s anything you did or that it will limit her life.

Prayers for your daughter. I sometimes say God led me, God put it on my heart, or God spoke to me and people who really don't know God, will say "What do you mean, God spoke to you"? They think I'm hearing voices and question my mental state. Lol. They don't understand that a thought that pops into your head or an instant download of information IS God's voice or leading. Keeping her in my prayers and you too. I know it's hard on us Mama's when something happens to our children. I'm also so, so sorry for the loss of your son.

Oh wow poor little thing. Must be extremely hard when she’s so little and getting all those jabs and manipulation to get a vein, especially on a child that doesn’t have the faintest understanding. My oldest brother had a friend since childhood who went into a diabetic coma and died. His Diabetes started because of food poisoning from a wholemeal chicken salad sandwich, he bought in a cafe. Apparently it was the tomato in the sandwich that caused the food poisoning. Who would understand that sliced and kept tomatoes are a big culprit in food poisoning? I’d immediately think chicken not the tomatoes. Anyway because he didn’t know he had diabetes he went into a coma and couldn’t be saved. Big healthy fellow gone forever. I didn’t realise you lost a son, what happened to him? You are an extremely strong woman. The more I watch about you the more impressed I am that you keep soldering on. You remind me allot of my own mother. (Only the highest of complement to you) All the very best.

Type 1 always requires insulin injections before a meal if they don’t get an injection they would go into DKA and die. So it’s unlikely you had since childhood. But your childhood diet may have played a part in your diabetes you may have started feeling the affects as your pancreas was struggling. There’s also a 1 1/2 I’m not sure about that one. I’m sorry you are battling diabetes.
