Welcome to a new video! It’s gone from one extreme to this other. Following last week’s success out at Dressage, we unfortunately had a bad show out showjumping today. So bad I never want to showjump again.
I hope you enjoy and please don't forget to subscribe xx

Hello, my name is Charlotte. I’m an Equestrian Content Creator, Marketing and Social Media Manager. I enjoy sharing my equine journey with my horse, Vossi. Hi Charlotte 👋 did you see my reply to your video. Posted 4 days ago ... your horse needs physical help , I see a horse in pain before and after the jumping hence not wanting to do the course... you need to get him checked out straight away at the vets or a equine therapist.. he isn't happy . He's not naughty.. this is a horse that needs to be listened to and get help please 🙏.. x

I’m sorry but this horse has been telling you for quite a while he doesn’t want to do it and you persisted…..you’ve moved yards numerous times because you don’t like people telling you the truth so it’s about time you woke up and put the horse first and not your ego for KZbin !

Hi Charlotte, im a physical therapist and viewing the video i just wanted to tell you hes not being naughty. This is a horse telling you hes in pain . Hes feeling something before and after the jumps . This isn't you , but he needs a veterinarian to check his back. Otherwise a equine therapist.

This is just my opinion, and in no way is meant to hurt you. He is a big horse with a big stride. He had started to get in a rhythm in the warm up, and you slowed him and seriously shortened his stride. I think that's his problem. I think you should get in touch with Meg, and get a lesson with Cameron. I really think he can help you learn to move Vossi more forward. I know you would do well with eventing. I believe Vossi needs to move forward at a comfortable rhythm for him, which I do believe will be a bigger stride than you're used to. I think he's backwards in his jumping, and you will need help with it. But he really needs to be allowed to move forward. I don't know. Just my thoughts. You rode really well. Great video.

Thanks so much! I ride him the way I was taught based off how a professional rode him and figured out what was best for him. He’s actually only 15’3, so he’s a small horse actually, he’s also not a confident horse and relies very much on a strong, professional, confident rider - of which I am not, nor wish to be. Therefore, we’re finding that middle ground of what makes us both happy. That seems to be Dressage ☺️

@RidingwithCharlotte the above is an interesting comment and in some ways I agree. I feel like he needs more freedom in front and it was interesting to see when Meg E rode him and gave him more freedom to go forward he looked very nice. This is in no way meant to be a horrible criticism, horse world is full of "experts" 😅 and I know we only see a small snippet of things. I know you mention about this is how a professional rode him, but they don't always get it right. If you think dressage is the right thing for both of you then focusing on flatwork may take the pressure off you both. Plus, you never know, the more you develop your flat, you may circle back to some jumping. The old saying is, jumping is just flatwork with poles in the way 😂 I know what it's like to have a big confidence knock, so I can sympathise. It would be interesting to see what you think/how you find unaffiliated vs BD, as in my experience they are very different.

@@RidingwithCharlotte that particular professional's approach doesn't seem to be working for either of you though does it? Neither of you look to be particularly enjoying yourselves and the fall you had recently would understandably knock confidence. Doing the same thing over again and expecting different results doesn't make sense, so why not change it up and find a trainer who can get you both relaxed, confident and thinking and moving forward? If the dressage helps with that too then great and I agree with not trying to battle on with the jumping as it is but that's not to say with a different training approach and taking things back a few steps couldn't get both your confidence on track and working as a team. Jumping or no jumping I do wish you well with him.

I think from my own experience with my horse who behaves the same as voss. When you have a pulling horse who might stop and bucks after a fence as a rider you try to ride in the most contained and controlled manner to prevent all the moves. I used to ride my horse in the same way the only time I didn’t was when I had my instructor ride first. It’s a hard one and I think they look easier from the ground but when your riding it’s soo much to think about and take on phaha xx

That’s exactly what I don’t want, sending him away to be “transformed”😅 if he doesn’t want to do it with me, I’m not getting someone else to force him to do it. I believe that if a horse wants to do it, they will do it. He doesn’t want to do it sometimes and that doesn’t sit well with me so I’m happy to stop it all together and focus on Dressage - where he’s happy and relaxed

I'm wondering if you have checked his front end? I had a little mare that acted the same way as him. Sometimes she would be great at jumping and was really great at dressage. She finally got to the point where every time I jumped, she would act just like that. She was never lame, until the end and It ended up being her Check ligament. This was over a 6 year period. 4 vets didn't figure it out. All blamed it on behavior issues.

I just made the same decision for me and my horse. I found I was more excited for my dressage lessons than I was jump lessons. When I'd go ride, I'd always choose the dressage saddle over the jump. A month ago, I got bucked out of my jump tack. first time off in 8 years. Well I have a stint in my spinal cord and my neurosurgeon told me not to fall off cause repeated jarring motions can cause it to dislodge. I decided after that fall to embrace the inner Dressage Queen that I was trying so hard to suppress. I thought I loved jumping, but falling is going to be part of jumping and I can't risk it. Yes falling is a part of horses in general, but it's not a question of "if" with jumping as it is "when." Plus, there was always that fear of falling that I don't have with dressage. why put myself through that. I enjoy and low key love dressage. So I'm focusing my time and $$$ on that. Will still pop him over some low fences every now and then. You gotta do what's best for you and your pony. It's not supposed to be scary, frustrating, and stressful.

You said it yourself. He needs someone that will give him an intense jump session once a week before a show. And You don't want that. You also said that there are some horses that you can just take to a show after a month of doing nothing & they will just jump everything. And that's what You want. But some people don't want a horse like that. Some people would LOVE to have a horse that needs intense jump training every week. Lucy from Footluce has done a brilliant job with Ember & he was napping like anything & wouldn't jump! Of course she had a ton of help from Justine . They definitely didn't force Ember they just realised what makes him tick.

Not an easy day for you . Totally could see Vossi the Viking resisting early on by his conversation in the ring. Possibly there is some show attitude with crowds there but don ''t EVER think he is not a talented jumper and has shown that over the years when you jumped him (or Meg E.) You have jumped him amazingly showing off his well clearing jump ability, bucks and all! Time out for you both now for dressage .I believe you will somewhere down the road show his power off again with renewed confidence and enjoyment. He is a super horse to enjoy anywhere.

I had a pony with the same attitude as Voss , there is nothing you can do to make them showjump if they don't want to do it! Some people turn them away for a break , some hunt them or cross country them but at the end of the day if you want to keep Voss I would do another discipline !

Let me tell you, if he was sensing something based off his behaviour today, he was sensing dragons, zombies and the world ending😆

You have to do what makes you and your horse happy. You aren’t happy showjumping and neither is Vossi. You have shown over and over again that Voss isn’t confident showjumping and it hugely stresses you out 💁🏽‍♀️ speaks volumes! Focus on the dressage, Voss is obviously so much happier doing that and he’s amazing at it! You are obviously upset about this decision but look to your future in dressage, I feel it will be very bright 🤩

Ever considered he’s not really your horse? There’s a mismatch between you. He’s an amazing athlete for jumping. But he’s destroying you and you’re not developing him.

I’ve been told this plenty of times😅I love him, I’m not selling him so he’s mine forever and therefore we work together on what suits us both 😁

Totally different vibe from you both at dressage compared to this…play to your talents and strengths as that’s where enjoyment lies! Do you follow Natasha Swales - she’s had a similar thing with her horse Mary (she was a rearer in SJ) and is now trying dressage and the horse looks sooo much more relaxed. Me driving to a dressage show versus me driving to a sj arena hire with 40cm cross poles are like two different people and I know the one I enjoy being most! Xx

We play ponies because its our happy place ❤ as long as whatever you two do is what makes you both of you smlie like a Chester cat 😊 then you are winning.... side note dressage to music would be so cool to watch you guys do ❤❤

Honestly I think you need a new horse. If you want to jump u need to find a horse that enjoys it. To me it looks like he doesn’t enjoy jumping. Some horses just don’t like doing certain things. Dont stop doing what u love because of the horse u have.

You are a way stronger person than me. We do all the work in the week the weekend is meant to be where all our hard work pays off and we can enjoy it. I couldn't do it with this behaviour if this was my horse. Done gone out of my life. Call me a terrible person idc don't have time for this nonsense

Oh dear Charlotte Vossi you naughty boy. Maybe he simply doesn’t like jumping but hey chin up he love’s dressage and looks fantastic doing it. So Charlotte dressage it is your very comfortable doing it with he’s not naughty. It really doesn’t matter if you never jump him again just do what makes you both happy. A good gallop occasionally he loves that and nice hacks out plus the beach. There’s loads of things you can still do just enjoy each other.

He’s not being naughty, or spicy or excited as people keep saying he’s in some kind of pain and he doesn’t have a voice to express it so he’s trying to tell her in every other way he can. It’s actually really sad and uncomfortable to watch, especially seeing him being booted in the ribs with spurs 😢
