I used to only have one makeup bag full of products just a few years ago. I found You Tube and my makeup and skincare drawer exploded. I don’t know that I will ever get back to one makeup bag. I am currently cutting back my spending. My spending this year was 60% less on makeup than last year. I am aiming for even less spending next year.

Same, I miss having such a small collection of used and abused makeup items. I was panning before I knew what panning was. My ultimate goal is to fit my entire collection into a makeup bag. Might take me years… but I want to get there again. I try you love my current collection so I’m excited to use it all up!

Decades ago, an MUA told me I didn’t need to buy eyebrow products if I didn’t want to. It was before the days of the fluffy, feathery, full brow that’s popular today, but the tricks still apply. She suggested using matte eyeshadow applied with a stiff, angled brush as the basic brow filler and mostly dried out mascara (if it’s not black) or glycerin bar soap to tame the hairs that want to go everywhere but where you want them to. She used a toothbrush to apply the soap, not a spoolie. (I’d already learned about using toothbrushes for brows when doing stage makeup, likewise using soap.) But you can save money on spoolies if you prefer them by thoroughly washing mascara wands to use instead of buying dedicated spoolies. (Some types of mascara wands won’t work, but it’s a great way to cut down on waste if you reuse the fluffy type of mascara wands.) It takes practice to achieve the effect you want, but it can save time and money in doing brows. You can also repurpose facial cleansers as shaving “cream.” The ones that contain exfoliating acids or scrubbing particles won’t work. Great idea about using eyeshadow for nail looks. I’m going to try it.

Oooh, such a fun video! I stopped buying: - bronzers, I barely use them and I have two that I'll use up maybe in two or three years; - big (15-18 pans) eyeshadow palettes, nowadays I want palettes where I Iove and use each and every shade; - eye pencils, I have plenty in every color and I use them very rarely, I definitely don't need more.

I don't own any cream blushes, because I realized prior to buying any that my liquid lipsticks and bullet lipsticks were more than enough. I'm glad I realized this before drastically expanding my makeup collection!

That is awesome! I definitely love using lipsticks as blushes and totally wish I realized this hack before all these super tempting cream blush releases hit the market in recent years! But I do think knowing I can use my lipstick as blush has kept my cream blush purchases much more in check 😊

I have sensitive skin so I like to buy a big ( inexpensive) bottle of loathing to use as shaving cream. The bottle lasts 6-8 months and I can use it as lotion when my skin is dry! I switched to bar sop for my body and I love it! I find it costs less money and I buy my soap from a local maker so it’s always fun to buy from someone in my community 😊

I think brows are my least favorite part of my routine. A friend decluttered a brow pencil to me, but after that an angled brush and a cool dark brown eyeshadow will do the trick! I've also switched to all bar products for the shower. I've also never bought a highlighter; every one i have has been decluttered to me

I've found that if I shave my legs toward the end of the shower, the hair and skin had time to soften and there is no need for shaving cream. Any soap works well! On a similar note, I've stopped using body scrubs. A loofah (that lasts forever) and soap work just as well as a body scrub with much less waste. I remember hearing there was a technique to use eyeshadow as nail polish but I never looked into it. Thanks for the reminder! I watched your old video and I definitely have some old eyeshadows I can use.

I am not in the full makeup industry for a long time, thankfully I discovered panning very early because the mindset is very helpful. There are many things I don't buy because I either don't need them or every once in a while people just gift them to me. Among these there are bronzers/contour, highlighters and blushes. Also I like to franken my own contour and blushes, and I like to use eyeshadows as highlighters from time to time, so I really have more than I need in those categories and won't buy them any time soon. Stopped buying nail polish as well but only because my collection is huge and I am panning it as well. I love nail polish and probably I'll end up only buying a few that I really like a year, when I'll reach my goal. Shaving products, I prefer bar soap anyway but a friend gifted me her foam so I am trying to use that up 😅 Masks: never bought them, but people always gift them to me, so here as well, I have definitely more than I need/use. Eye pencils: panning but really don't miss them. I am sure I won't be needing them once I finish, I can do anything a liner can, with eyeshadow. Same with liquid eyeshadows and eyeshadow sticks. Nothing else comes to my mind but I'm trying to get better into every aspect

Going into the winter season (at least here in Virginia), I am focused solely on skincare! Personally I don’t leave the house much, so I don’t use makeup much anymore. I have the essentials, face powder, mascara, and blush. That’s it. When I was younger I was VERY into brow products, and having that “sculpted” brow look..but since natural looking brows are back in I just embrace my full brows as they are. Just with an occasional tweeze. So I feel you on that! Also - I don’t buy shaving cream either! I use deep conditioner always! So easy 👍🏻 and cheap. Thanks for the tips!

Adding in my two cents! I’ve stopped buying nail polish too because of the eyeshadow technique but I find that it shortens the duration of the manicure (which is ok because I change it often) I don’t use contour. And after I finish my final 2 bronzers I probably won’t repurchase any. Same with highlighters. I have 5 and it takes me years to get through. Nice video!

something I've started doing in order to get through all the (non-sheet) face masks I have is using them in the shower. supposedly the steam helps it get into your pores better. tbh even if it's not true I wouldn't use them any other time so it still works for me

I think eyeshadow or a bronzer that is too dark for you (like if you have a palette with several bronzer shades) can be a good alternalive to a brow pencil, unless you are looking for a lot of definition

Your hair has really grown a lot! I have never consistently used shaving cream, I always use body wash or I use an epilator to remove unwanted hair.. as far as brow pencils, I don't like using anything else in my brows because my brows are dark so I'm not trying to make them darker, just fuller and I also don't through them that frequently..

I still buy shaving cream but I buy inexpensive men's shaving cream only (i like the barbasol aloe cream). When i buy the right cream, it lasts a while. I've found that the alternatives like body wash or conditioner are actually more expensive in the long run.

Some products I stopped buying are makeup wipes, single use face & eye masks, single use floss picks, shaving cream and body wash. For household products, I don't buy dryer sheets, single use laundry products and single use cleaning products. Instead for laundry I use wool balls and powder detergent. For cleaning, I refill my spray bottle with dissolvable tabs. I've been using the brand Meliora for a while now and really like their stuff. In general, I don't buy a product whether it's beauty, skin care, clothing, etc unless the one I have is used up or damaged beyond repair.

I only got into brows in the past couple of years and now I have a bunch of eyebrow gels and pencils and brow growth serums, some that I bought and some that came in sets or as gifts with purchase. I definitely don’t need to buy any new brow products for at least a year. I also used to hoard sheet masks. I did some traveling in Japan and SE Asia in 2018-2019 and bought a ton of sheet masks as it was a fun cheap way to try J- and K-beauty. But it took forever to work through them and they honestly didn’t do much for me. Now I’ve completely stopped buying sheet masks.

I also don't buy any of these products!! And haven't for quite some time. I also don't buy any type of makeup remover. I use the mini makeup erasers and then just wash my face with cleanser. It helps my skin and also is a lot less waste than wipes or a package from an oil cleanser or something like that! For household I don't buy dryer sheets and only use wool balls. I also don't buy cleaners, I use a glass bottle with water and the tablets or liquid to refill from grove!

I have stopped buying: hair masks. Conditioner has basically the same ingredients. I also stopped buying leave in products. I just put some conditioner in a spray bottle with water makeup wipes-. Cleansing oil works way better and I tug on my skin less Cotton rounds- I have some handmade washable Terry cloth ones if I feel like I need that step Sheet masks- I love a good face mask but I’d rather use a deep cleansing mask in a glass jar when a one use sheet mask in plastic

That’s such a good point about bar soaps creating less waste than body wash! Do you have any recommendations for a good body bar soap?

I'm a bar soap gal too, and I personally think the best bar soaps come from local artisans. I feel like every farmers market has someone selling handmade soaps! I am personally stuck on Long Winter Farm..I no longer live local to them but once a year do an online order for soap and perfume oil. No plastic involved in her soaps- they come in a canvas little bag. I find them more moisturizing than shower gels ever were.

I don’t know if it’s added or it’s a mixture of the two meds they use that makes the smell. I can use each med separately, just not together 😂💀😂💀😂 I also had a reaction to shampoo, it left my face, back and chest a mess and my pulmonologist was like “ all the meds we’ve given you and you had a reaction to shampoo?!?!” Like I can’t help it 😭😭😂😂😂
